    Big Test Tomorrow
Wish me Luck. I have to take the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering Exam) tomorrow. This is a 8 hour long test and it is a pass/fail test. If I pass, I can get my EIT (Engineer in Training) License. I have to have this license and work for 4 years before I can take another test and become a Professional Engineer (PE). Without the PE license, all of my designs must be checked by a Professional engineer to be legal. I hope it makes everyone feel better knowing civil engineers must go through all of this before designing a building, road, etc. :)

EWWWWWW. As a fellow engineer, I wish you the best of luck. I've taken that exam, and I will be retaking it this fall. I didn't have time to study enough for it last time, as since I didn't need to pass it, I wasn't that concerned. Sitting for the exam is a graduation requirment at my college.

Ah, you're a civil engineer. It's essential for you guys, and not needed at all as a EE (unless you're working on med equipment or for the navy or something like that).

yep. Civil engineering is really the only engineering profession that a PE license is actually required...it is just kinda an option with everyone else. Another really big benefit is that once a civil engineer gets the PE license you usually receive about a 50% or more pay increase (other engineers would only see +5% or so). Some companies will not even hire graduates without an EIT license or will fire you if you dont pass the PE after so long. ...that sure is alot to worry about. I went to school for 4 years....and if I dont pass...... I need to stop thinking about that ...it is 6am in the morning...time to get a shower and go to the test.... have a good day everyone :)

I'd almost bet we wouldn't hear from him until tomorrow or so :P

Taking that exam is like hitting yourself in the head with a brick over and over. Most people go out and get trashed afterward.

I didn't have a chance to study for it the first time, and it was just a graduation requirement. Granted, I would have liked to pass, but I didn't have enough time to really make sure I knew what was going on. The test is really slanted towards mechanical anyway (the general section, at least).

It's not required for my job, or for EE's most of the time.

Thats a great benefit. Most civil companies dont even hire unless you pass and get your EIT.....I guess thats why everyone was really happy for me. Now I wont have to struggle to get a job.....but I would have most likely passed the second time since I got to see what it was all about so I did not think of it as a big deal
