Man these T8's are super easy to clean !!

Sunday I did a full strip down and cleaning of my BP's T8. I spot clean like crazy so his cage never really gets very dirty but it was due for a total strip down and cleaning. I removed the sliding doors and scooped out what cypress substrate I could then used a shop-vac to get the rest which works awesome. Wiped down good inside with water/vinegar mix then a couple rinses and whips with plain water and paper towels.
Got everything set back up and arranged just how I wanted it and of course Walter had to get right in and start ransacking everything how HE wanted it as you can see.
I tried to avoid a humidity issue by having my new cypress mulch stored in a tub out of the bag to dry up some and going with a 50/50 mix with aspen but my humidity still jumped to 99% and fogged over glass doors with water droplets. Ive removed the doors twice now and wipe them and the inside walls down with paper towels and do seem to be gaining some ground back. I don't think this spike in humidity short term will be bad for Walter but if it doesn't get down to regular levels in a couple days I'm going to try putting a couple bags of that "boil in a bag" rice to try and suck up some of the extra moisture.

I think some people put a layer of that on a baking sheet and put it in the oven at like 200 degrees for an hour or so. It would kill anything living in it and would dry it out some too. Of course, let it cool before putting in the cage, but maybe an idea for next time.

Hey thanks that's a great idea. Yea it's crazy the difference with humidity between these and a glass tank. My T8 stays about 65-70% just with the water bowl and I never need to mist. During his shed I just add some water into the skull I have in there packed with moss.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a T8 for my BP around the 1 year old mark. What are you using for heating? I just want to know how much i'm looking at spending and whatnot... Thanks!

I'm glad to hear this... I ordered my T8 2 weeks ago and just waiting for it to get here now.

bigSak - I'm going with 12" heat tape on the bottom and 2 40w heat panels inside the T8. I got the divider so I may use it to house 2 snakes for a while, that was my main reason for going with two RHP's instead of one larger one.

Just using a pro products RHP controlled with a herpstat 1 . Works awesome. I can't remember the wattage, I talked to the guy at pro products and explained my rooms ambient temperature and he recommended a size and sent it direct to animal plastics and they installed it so when it came all I had to do was assemble the enclosure and it was ready to go. Couldn't be happier with the whole set up.

what mixture of vinegar/water do you use? I've been looking for the correct amount of water to dilute the vinegar with but I haven't found a sure answer that would be safe with a bp

You run into any problems with the height of the T8? I was tossing the idea around of getting 2 of them but when I talked to Ali, she said the inside height is 10.75". RBI says no closer than 6" for their RHP. With 2" of aspen, 2" of RHP and 2" of snake, that leaves an air gap of 4" which is well below the specs. This has me kind of worried so I have come up with an alternative of ordering me 2 T13s for my boas and then giving my 48x23x14 Proline to my BP. Only downside is the T8 are quick ship where the T13s will take me like 3 months to get :( But anyways, anyone use thick aspen and an RHP on the T8s?

I'm no expert by any means but what has worked good for me is a mixture roughly 1 part vinegar to 6-8 parts water. I dilute it pretty good. The main reason I use vinegar is because my well water is fairly hard and vinegar works good to take off any hard water spots I may get on glass or anything. That and while it does smell it is relatively non-toxic. I'm just a little scared to use bleach as it's pretty nasty stuff.

thanks man, lol I'm kind of afraid to use bleach too, that and my 40 gallon tank is insanely heavy and it would be a pain to drag that outside to rinse out with bleach and such, with the added baggage of an attached heatpad

I haven't found it an issue with my BP nor has it been one with my daughters adult corn snake who is also in a T8. With my BP I only use enough substrate to cover the bottom nicely so it doesn't show. My BP has never seemed to want to burrow any although in his hides it looks like he goes around in circles and makes almost little "crop circles" in the substrate.
I use a little thicker layer of substrate for the corn snake as he likes to burrow just under the surface at times and has little tunnels all over the place before long.
In both cases with me anyway height of the T8's works just fine and haven't had any issues at all. I did have to play around a bit with the placement of my thermostat probe to get my temps just right. What ended up working best for me is running the probe along the hot side wall and leaving the probe on the surface of the substrate about half way along the wall not quite directly under the RHP. I've had to maybe readjust it twice from the snake pushing some substrate over it but other than that works great for me. Gives me a 90F hotspot, 75-77F in the coolest back corner of cool side and about an 82F ambient temp. Check all my temps with a temp-gun.

I just mix the water/vinegar in a bowl then soak a paper towel in it and wipe down the whole entire inside then wipe dry with dry paper towels then use my mist bottle and soak down everything and wipe dry with paper towels then re mist and wipe dry again.
When I was a little kid as a school project I tried to make a little terrarium out of a plastic jug. I cut a large window in the front and taped clear plastic wrap over it. Inside I had a spotted salamander I had caught. Well my mom had washed out supposedly REALLY GOOD a Clorox jug for me to use. You couldn't smell the bleach what so ever but the next morning to my horror it had virtually melted my salamander. Needless to say I stay away from bleach.
