Is she a Super Pastel?

This girl was sold to me as a Super Pastel, and has some head blushing, and blushing through the entire body. She is also bright yellow, compared to the dull brown most regular pastels turn into.

She is 1501 grams this morning.

Any help would be great!!!!!

Very pretty but I'm just seeing pastel, not super. However, wait for more people to chime in as my experience is still limited when it comes to BPs.

1st..she is pretty..but I would be hesitant to call her a super pastel.. I have a super pastel, he has the charicteristic white head seen in super pastel.. See this thread also. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...-super-pastels

That's the issue I'm having. I know as regular pastels age, they get ugly dark brown. Finding pictures of 1300g+ Super Pastels is hard. All pastels/super pastels look amazing as hatchlings but as they age they look worse. Not sure what to do if its a normal pastel. I bought her from a breeder as a super pastel. He assured me she was, but if she isn't then that's a big issue.

Looks awefuly similar to my little pastel enchi. I'm not incredibly good at picking out all 4500 or whatever the number is morphs, but that would be my bet.

My thoughts exactly [emoji6] If it were me I'd call her a pastel enchi. My super pastel has totally different markings. Way busier pattern.

I'm seriously considering her to be a possible Pastel Enchi. That picture the gentlemen above posted is very convincing. So hard to know, and I need to make sure I'm pairing her correctly!

I agree it does not look like a super pastel, I also agree that it looks an AWFUL LOT like an enchi pastel ... HOWEVER, it really needs to be taken up with the breeder in order to figure it out. Do you know what the cross was that produced this snake? How many males and what genes had been paired to the female that produced your snake? Did you order online and have it shipped or did you pick it up in person? There is a chance it could have been a dual sired clutch and the breeder was overlooking that possibility .... As far as your perception of pastels losing their brightness and browning out to ugliness .... there are plenty of pastels that maintain a vibrant bright color well into adulthood. I have a pastel female that is 1400g that is still super bright and beautiful with minimal brown :gj:

Well I messaged him earlier today to ask if she had been paired with anything because she hasn't eaten since I bought her from him nearly a month ago and she looks super fat so I thought she may be ovulating. He told me he would get to his facility and let me know (which he never did). But then I also asked what the pairing was to make her, and he said he bought her from the Daytona Show last year. He isn't being very helpful or insightful. The last thing that was said etween us was:

Me: Yeah she's real fast, that's why I don't know if she's ouvlating or not. Also, in addition to knowing if she bred before, what made her, what pairing?
Him: Got her from Daytona to breed to my super pastel and clown stuff and maybe a lesser mojave.
Me: So you never ended up pairing her then?
Him: Not there yet.


So that's what I'm going off of.

Did you pick her up from this "facility" or did you order her online?? At this point it doesn't sound like your going to be able to find out what the pairing was that produced her .... Since you got her for breeding, it is important that you know what she is .... While it may set your plans back, one surefire way to find out what she is would be to breed her to a good ol' plain normal male .... If she is indeed a super pastel, then there will be no normals produced in any clutch she ever lays. Also by breeding her to a normal male, if she is an enchi pastel then you should be able to verify that if you get any enchi babies in the clutch

He brought her to my work, since we live in the same town. Yeah I agree I probably won't be able to find out what the pairing is. I've already been pairing her with my Fire male. They had one lock for about 18 hours, I gave them a week off and introduced them back together today. If she's a super pastel, I'll get fireflys and pastels. If she is a pastel I could get normals and plain fires etc. If she's pastel enchi, there is a bunch of combos, and man a Enchi Firefly would be absolutely amazing. We will see though, hopefully she produces and I get a few eggs out of her this year. Hard to know if he even bred her, because she REALLY has gotten fatter since I've gotten her, and she will not eat at all. Quite a predicament I'm in.. Sigh!

I don't see enough head blushing for your snake to be a Super Pastel. Could be a Pastel Enchi, or could just be a clean Pastel.


Jeanne, this one seems to be more than just Super Pastel. Looks like it has a whole lot of Spider going on LoL

Yes, Connor is a killerbee.. Super pastel bee.. But still shows his white head for illustration of the white head one sees whn super pastel is present.. Spider, just being his pattern.

Sorry but I don't see how you can use a killerbee for reference when ask about a super pastel, yes both heads are faded but there is a big difference in the fading between both due to the other gene or lack there of involved. :rolleye2:

When you try to compare you should use similar animals for comparison.


To the OP the patter is reduced however I am not seeing Enchi, as for super pastel here is the issue, without picture of the animal as an hatchling it could be tricky to figure out if you are dealing with a pastel or super, there is a lot of variability in both, I have seen amazing pastel mistaken for supers as adults and I have seen poor example of supers that could easily be mistaken as pastels.

If you bought this animal from a reputable breeder you should not even question the animal on what it is being sold or purchased at.

Well I got ahold of him again today and he told me she could possibly be pastel enchi, I'm not quite sure how he's confused or isn't 100%. He also told me that his assistant mistakenly paired her with a Lesser Mojave, and that would potentially explain why she isn't eating, and hasn't shed either.

Seems like he tells you what you want to hear, not someone I would do business with between the "confusion" and other excuses.

Paired or not if he had experience he would actually let you know that it is not unusual for adults especially female to go off feed with their new owners, out of all adult females I have received in the past (loan or purchased) 50% of them stop eating upon arrival and only resume feeding 3 to 9 months later. Adult can take a little longer to adjust. Needless to say I would not pair an animal that is not settle or is not eating for me, that might delay your plan but it is pretty typical when buying larger females.

For education sake, why would you say not enchi? Just curious what it is you see or don't see.
