I Finally Got One

.......well, sort of. I haven't taken delivery yet because of the weather. I have been looking at Pieds ever since I saw the first one at a reptile show. The problem for me was always two fold. Price of course, but also the balance of the pattern. Most everyone lumps Pieds into one of three groups, low white, medium white, or high white. Ask forum members which is the best and, well prepare yourself for the myriad of dissenting opinions. I fall into the category of medium. But more importantly I have always looked for one that the amount of pattern was not only balanced in percentage, but evenly spaced over the snake. Nature doesn't really care what my idea of the perfect Pied is so it makes what it makes. However, every once in a while it gets really close. I have probably only seen 3 in the last 5 years that I thought were close enough that I felt I really wanted to have it. One was purchased immediately by a forum member a few years back. My apologies for not recalling who it is but I'm sure she knows who she is. It was awesome. The other was back when they were at "What are you smoking" prices. And then there is the following animal. So without further ado, direct from Matt Buchanan at Buchanan Herpetological, my new addition. Male Ghost Pied

The picture is Matt's, not mine, and he says this little guy is going into shed in the picture so I expect he may look better yet, if that is possible.

Im really not a fan of pieds but that one is nice... The pattern is nicly spaced and i love the grey around the spots. Very nice looking fellow there

Although I don't own one my husband is a big fan of the pieds. He said he likes yours a lot. Can't wait to see more photos when you get him.

Just looking at the pictures again - he seems to think he has a bit more than Ghost and Pied in there, going by the + sign on his back! Love the evenly spaced markings. The boy I'll be getting is more of a 'half and half'.

Just a couple of days ago I was thinking of getting a Pastel Pied/Killer Pied if I don't hatch one this year (have had locks from Pastel het. Pied X Pastel het. Pied) and breed that to my Orange Ghost female to make double het's

There's breeding, and then there's selective breeding. Rit, you got yourself a winner man. Thanks for sharing this. Congrats!! :gj:

Absolutely! I've even seen hets and non-hets coming from the same male but different females where one was Hypo, and just the presence of the gene seems to influence the look.

Thanks. Like I said, I had spent a lot of time looking at Pieds before I finally saw this one and pulled the trigger. I know we get very anxious to produce something and this hobby is a waiting game regardless. However, I'd rather wait years and over pay to get that one right animal.

I myself have never been one to jump on the pied wagon. There's just something about them that does not personally appeal to me. (Even tho I do own a pied male and Het female) I get intrigued by the pattern mutation in morphs and I have seen very very few pied that have jumped out at me as interesting. IMO the pied gene just throws a dirty, blurred, smeared on example of whatever morph it is combined with while giving it a neat white backdrop with clean edges. HOWEVER, this pick up you have here has got me to open your post everytime it gets bumped back to the top, simply so I can get another look :eyepoppin ... Very very very nice pick up :gj:

Wow! That's one smexy pied! I'm a medium white pied gal myself (please don't tell my black pastel pied gal that, I love her too but for different reasons) and that's a great mix of color and white!

Well the FedEx fairy made a delivery and he is even more stunning in person than in photos. Actually these two pics do him no justice at all. I am going to let him settle in now and perhaps after he takes a couple meals I will start a progression thread.

I don't have any Axanthic and I'm not sure I'm up for the challenge of a triple recessive. It will take me about 4 to 5 years just to get back to other combos of Ghost Pied unless I purchase hets along the way, and where's the fun in that?

I just thought I would throw up a current picture. This guy is around 560 grams and still looking good. He seems to be holding his color and brightness well. Sorry for the lousy cell phone pic. He is very head shy and trying to get catch him spread out is darn near impossible. Anyways, I can't wait to see some of his potential unleashed in the future with some of the girls I have growing up right now. Thanks for looking.
