    Escaped baby BP
Hey, my bp has escaped 5 moths old gone for 24 hrs+ and I was hoping you guys could give me some techniques to find the guy. Tonight im going to put a dead mouse in my room over a heat lamp and next to his tank (feeding day today). He lives on my desk next to my computer (looked under and inside it) looked around the cage, under my bed, in and under drawers, under entertainment centers, inside speakers and subwoofers, inside shoes, in my bed sheets, under couches, inside couches, inside vents, near and under my furnace, under and around watercooler, boxes. Im so stressed about the guy, my house is super cold... I really hope he shows up at some point :tears: oh and BTW, Last night I drank up on some redbull and pulled an all nighter search. I also put plastic bags all around my closet door. This house is super old and has no insulation... I have 1x1 inch hole in my wall and im going to shove one of those cameras on the end of a wire into the hole to see if he could have gone in there. If you guys have any advice, please let me know

Where is the one place you would really really not want him to be? Look there.

and they aren't always smart. Found an adult female stuck in my hole my sump pump sits in once. Little turd got her sliding door open and went for a swim. Last place I looked, mostly cause the pump stopped working.

your baby BP is probably sleeping (and cold) right now. u just have to be awake, alert and fast to catch it when it comes out tonight.

providing a hotspot (esp. in a cold house) is a very good idea. i would go with a live mouse in a critter keeper/container instead of a dead one tho. it holds it smell and heat signature better. also it's movement might get noticed.

i hear u can also dust the floor with flour help keep it's track - where it comes out of, where does it go? messy, but could be helpful.

    good luck.

I always found my snake either in a warm spot (under dryer) or cold, in a linen closet. Would seek them out every time. Of course this was 20 years ago before I stopped listening to pet stores and got bins.

also u gotta figure out how your BP got out in the first place. was a lid open? was something loose? u need to secure it's enclosure to prevent this from happening again.

Check closets first. They love to go under closet doors. Also check the back of computer towers where the wires are (computers are warm). Good luck!

Back when I trusted the sliding-top screen mechanism, one of mine escaped. The flour on the floor trick worked pretty well, but what everyone is suggesting here is golden. A live mouse in a tank with some warmth would be great. I happened to feel my little one brush against my toes under the bed while I was folding laundry.

If you also use a sliding-top screen lid, make sure you shove something in the lock hole, whether a lock, a stick, etc. if you leave it unsecured they will push themselves out. Good luck.

Invite your friends and family over for a fortnight. Turn all the electronics off except the fridge. Everybody should have a heavy duty flashlight and remain quiet and observant. Very little talking and just use the flashlights. Turn off all room lights. The key is to remain quiet while searching.

YES! The pet store (as usual) GUARANTEES that the sliding-top lids are escape-proof. I believe they are if you secure them, but without that lock or stick, they are worthless. I stick a good quality chopstick in mine, it has been escape-proof ever since. :)

I keep something through thr lil latchy part thing. Just because my 5 year old can reach the top. (he knows better and ive never caught him messing with it but you never know) i just didnt realize theyd pop open and i dont need my girl getting out. She doesn't care for my husband anyways so it would be bad. Haha!

Snakes will remain hidden for extended periods of time as you well know. Don't give up, it has to be a continuous search until she turns up. I would especially be more vigilant the more she misses scheduled meals. We can do this!!!!

Don't give up! I once found my cousins gecko almost 18 months after it disappeared. Fat and happy in the basement, no where near where its cage had been. I'm sure he will turn up, just keep the faith!

No worries dear. Snakes have been known to stay on the lam for months and months. Of course I hope you don't have to wait this long, but don't panic if the snakey stays hidden for an extended time. Heck, one of my friends' boa constrictor escaped and it showed up ACROSS TOWN in someone's front yard (must have hitched a ride in someone's car?) and he was reunited with it thanks to craigslist! :) Stay positive!

My frmale ball disappeared randomly after Sylvia (assistant who no longer works with me, due to moving) forgot to secure her tub.

1600 gram female went missing for a month and a half. Problem is, i have cats and a small dog inside. She turned up one day after i came home from work to settle, she had decided to somehow pop up on my bed and i went to move the blankets and poof there she was!

I was seriously so anxious the entire time she was missing. Just dont stress, thatll do you more harm than good.

start where you keep it, work outwardly in a radius and look in under on top of behind every single thing. if still not found put out flour and see if you can find where it travels once more in circles from the cage, try to limit rooms you dont think it went into from being gotten into by putting a towel under the doors. keep any furry pets away from all possible area's it might be. most snakes wont travel far from home they are just exploring but they are the kind of explorers only the government could approve of. they will keep close by likely with in 20 feet of its home. we lost our banana cinni last week and were lucky to find him 2 days later 20 feet almost to the inch from his home in a old storage box full of magic the gathering cards, little punk thought he could play with out ME!!!! the key is to not give up on looking even young they can live for well over a month with out your help and will find something warm enough to keep them alive, if you provide a better place for it to go it will eventually find it, however if youhave boxes like me in your house and they are to tall for it to get out of but have something enxt to them they can use to get into the box well they some times will trap them selves.

one more thing, if its behind something large and you can see it but moving the object might harm it you can put out traps to try to catch it such as a heat pad under a tub with a hide in the tub, make the tub tall enough that the snake cant get out on its own and give it a path up to the top of the tub with soft bedding in side such as shredded paper or the very fine aspen. cordon off the area with boards or thick paper taped up eliminating all possible escape the snake should see the warm spot and attempt to get warm even if its just against the side of the tub it gives you a shot. also if you can turn off the power via breaker to the appliances if its stuck behind them such as stove or dish washer dryer clothes washer, i wouldn't cut off your deep freeze or refridge due to it rotten food can kill you and then where would your snake be.

Congrats on the find!! Now glue that little bugger to the bottom of his tank!! lol jk. Glad you found him. My buddy had his escape and his cat found it a month later lol. (cat didn't hurt it btw just followed it around the house:)) I had a few escapes. My normal got out of his tank and hid under the couch 5 feet away. My two pinstripe females escaped within days of each other (my rack is wood so the shelf settled a bit and gave them a small gap) one i found at the back of the rack curled up. The other i found snuggled with my pastel in the tub next to her.

I too am having this problem. My friend was watching my snakes while I was out of town for a family emergency and forgot to double check the lid. He(the snake) has been gone for at least three days, with zero signs as well. I am one worried mama.
