Normal male retic on the way!
Just ordered a normal retic from Andrew Deitz. To me the wild-type retic pattern is one of the most underappreciated snakes out there.

Natural patterns are always my favorite!

    Congrats, looking forward to pictures.

Re: Normal male retic on the way!
I've been tossing around the idea of getting a retic next year sometime. I'm just not sure what route to go, mainland males can get big even if you don't power feed. The dwarf and SD seem to be more nippy even in adult hood, plus it seems like most dwarfs morphs are bred with mainlands.

    Too many options...

Why did you go mainland if you don't mind me asking?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Hey guys thanks for the interest in my upcoming arrival. He is coming in on Thursday and I promise to post some pics when he arrives.

To answe your question Stearns, I actually had a hatchling dwarf retic from Vital Exotics that I got last summer which turned out to be a nightmare snake. From the very beginning he was ultra aggressive, and would bite me half a dozen times before he even was out of the enclosure. I worked with him daily for months on end and had very little progress. I eventually had to sell him as the fiancé didn't want an overly aggressive snake to deal with.

The mainland normal I'm getting this week seems to be very mild mannered and has a good personality. The breeder has adult males in the 10 foot range that are healthy and thriving, without achieving monster size.

My logic is that I would rather have a relatively calm 10 foot snake than an insanely aggressive 8 foot dwarf retic

Sorry for the poor picture quality, he was moving pretty quickly and my photography skills are awful!

Decided to name him Ralphie, for his gold and black markings. So far he has been calm and relaxed, hasn't struck, nipped or even hissed at me. Took a weaned rat like it was his job.

Great pickup from Andrew Deitz Reptiles.

Looking great Josh! Congrats, and I'm sure he will turn out to be exactly what you hoped for. :gj: I see what you meant about the normal type retic being under appreciated.

    Nice looking Retic Josh. :)

I have been FIGHTING the urge to get a Retic. My rat guy is a breeder of Retics and I have seen quite a few. I think I am slowly weakening.

Looks like you have a keeper there!

Please post pictures as he grows. :please:

Thanks guys! He is pretty awesome, spent some time last night just hanging out on the couch.

Reinz, you should definitely look into getting a retic. Especially if you have someone local that can help pick one with a great temper.

    Congrats.
    Good looking snake.

NERD has several retic videos that I enjoy viewing. One retic was so placid, that for the first few minutes of the video, I thought I was watching a burm.
    Majestic animals.

Thanks everyone! He really is a super calm snake, barely seems to notice when I open the tub to take him out.

Right now I have him in a 16 qt sterilite tub. One thing I have noticed is that he twists up the paper towel substrate everyday, usually dunking it in his water bowl and makes a mess. Never seen this before with burms, boas, or bps, I wonder if it is a retic thing.
