    Terrarium/I don't know what project.
Okay guys and gals, I still plan on building the nice big custom ball python cage I showed in another post. That project will be put on the back burner. Current project goals. I just picked up this 70 gallon tank (yes I know not ideal for ball pythons) what I would like to do is put a plexiglass glass devider in the center and construct some sort of back wall with foam and cover it in some type of water resistant material. Any ideas? http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...28f2f2ddd0.jpg

Oh I figure the foam on the back wall will provide excellent insulation and I plan on a plexiglass top

Update... none of the home shops in town had glass in the right thickness so I had to order glass. Should be here by Monday. Also got the log cut in half. Yea that was fun. If you have never done this it is a pain in the arse. Anyway slow progress. I'll update soon. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...44691d0375.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...459de927fa.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f1cde187f3.jpg

Got the glass back today. The top was cut exactly, but the tank divider was a 1/4 inch too long. My fault must have been drinking when I measured.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...287c5e0b2e.jpg

Top is mocked up and just needs paint and a coat of poly to seal it. Divider glass is in and silicone is drying.

So do you think I can drill the back glass to put the temperature probe in?

I can't wait to see the finished project! :gj: It looks good so far. What type of log did you use? How did you make it safe for your scalebaby? :snake:

If it's for the thermostat, I'd put the probe in direct contact with the heat tape/pad, outside the glass. This is an awesome build!!!

To drill a hole into glass, U need a diamond bit and a drill tht goes faster than what most happen to have in their work shops...do not try this if you do not have the proper equipment.

I'm not sure of the type of wood it came with the tank. I think the previous owner just grabbed a piece of drift wood. I soaked the entire log in the tub overnight with bleach. rinsed it several times and left it to dry for several days. Once it was dry I made the cuts and put 2 coats of polyurethane on them. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3220100eb2.jpg

The used tank was 100. Light fixtures were 50. Heat was 65 with thermostat. Replacement glass 59. Styrofoam 16. Grout and paint 32. Wow it just keeps adding up

That is awesome! I bet they are thrilled with the setup. I think I want to ste....er.... borrow some of those ideas.

Haha...its like me. I have the mindset of...

why pay 100 dollars when I can make it myself... with $250 worth of supplies, only some of which i have lying around?

hehe. I just cant help myself sometimes. Its the fun you have through the process that makes it worth it, right?

edit for somehow forgetting half of the words and most of the spelling.

I totally agree. Plus it was a family project. My daughter helped out a lot. I could have found some of the materials cheaper bit was in a time crunch.

One note. If you use class as a canopy as I have, ensure it is tempered. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...52e07c3aeb.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a57f307d2c.jpg
