    Classified Ads
I'd like to invite everyone to start using the classified ad feature on this site as opposed to posting "for sale"s in the forums. It is a free service we offer to our members. New ads appear throughout the site and are visible to visitors, giving them higher visibility

We originally started the forum before we switched software because the old software didn't have the ad feature. Matt Graybeal (aka justcage) of MG Reptiles has several ads running there now.

Once everyone gets used to using and checking the classified ads, we'll close this forum.

Let us know what you think of the feature.

If you look to your left, you should see them in the margin. You can also reach them from the Module Jump and from the home page.

I see them in the Module Jump as well as the "Top Classifieds" section in the margin, but is there anyway to get a direct link listed prominently in either the "Main Menu" section on the top left or in the links bar across the top? The way they are currently accessed is a little less than intuitive in my opinion.

Maybe you can even rotate a banner in temporarily to promote the new classifieds feature?

I'd really like to start using the classifieds, but without a direct and obvious link I'm not sure how many "eyes" they are getting???

Just my thoughts for what they're worth.

Yep we need to think that over - like possibly killing the calendar link. There wont be any way around the drop down though - there are simply too many features/modules for the navigation bar (unfortunately). We could add a link to the Main Menu Block ( upper left where the Galelry link is).

Appreciate the input - it can only help and we love to hear it.

Don't get me wrong ... no problem at all with the drop down ... I just think that if you want to promote people using the new classifieds system it is going to have to "stand out" instead of be something that has to be hunted for.

I'm really excited about all of the new features and especially can't wait until the new classifieds systems starts getting some eyeballs!

i think it definitely should be a link in the main menu block. perhaps it could replace member list in the top nav and the member list link could go somewhere else? i bet more members want to see the classifieds than the member list...

Technically, "User CP" is duplicated in the top menu bar ... It exists as the second menu item from the left and also exists as a menu option under "Quick Links" ... Seems like a waste of valuable real estate to have it up there twice??

    Re: Classified Ads
Good point, Adam. I agree. "New Posts" is also duplicated under "Quick Links," although I do use the "New Posts" button probably more than any other. Maybe we could move a few other less frequently used features in the top menu bar to the "Quick Links" list.

    Re: Classified Ads
Hehehe - i usually just bounce back to the homepage (clicking header) to see that list of active posts. That is one thing I really like about the vbulletin/vbportal integration is it allows you so many different means of interaction (although sure sometimes such a heavy feature set can be a little disarming) - and also what I like about having a live and responsive audience for feedback in design and integration choices.

    Re: Classified Ads
Well, I'm sure you guys can check logs and see which menu bar links are more popular than others .... I'd hate to see something popular whacked (I'm a fan of the "New Posts" link myself) .... but I couldn't imagine that User CP was popular enough to be so prominently featured. Too me it seems more like a utilitarian function rather than a daily use feature.

Sorry if I'm being annoying, I've sat through enough usability studies in my life that sometimes I tend to think in links and clinks. I know that whatever you guys work out going forward will be awesome!

Indeed - and the default layout inarguably leaves a bit to be desired :)
