No interest in genetic stripe?
Now, I may be considered fairly new to the politics and market of the ball python hobby. Until last year I've only kept my snakes as pets and had no interest in what was going on in this world.
But last year after I decided I wanted to become more involved in the hobby, I began researching different morphs and genetics to find what I was truly interested in pursuing. And one of those morphs that I ended up really being interested in was genetic stripes. I liked how they looked. I like the unbroken back stripes and I liked how there was very little to no other pattern happening. Just one solid clean stripe. But as I began looking further into it, I found that there seems to be very little interest in any genetic stripe projects. I see other recessive genes generating lots of interest, clowns, pied, albinos, but not so much genetic stripe.
Why is that? Why does no one seen interested in genetic stripes? I'm sure it has a lot to do with super stripes and how they are easier to obtain than a genetic stripe project but does that factor alone diminish the appeal of the gene? Is there any hope in reviving interest in this gene, because I'd personally like to work with it down the road and am curious as to why not many other seem to be working with it.
As always, any feedback is appreciated. Also, any pictures of different genetic stripe combos would be awesome!

The super stripes might be impacting them, also, you lose a lot of pattern with genetic stripes, like with champagne. I've always liked tri stripes, but hardly see them either.

Re: No interest in genetic stripe?
I also think the superstripe combos look better than similar genetic stripe combos. Honestly I wasnt interested in stripes of any kind until the superstripe came out.

Re: No interest in genetic stripe?
So, since they are rather similar, which would you recommend for a breeding project? Seems like super stripes are the more obvious choice lol I'm on the fence with this one. I could easily go one way or another, just not sure which route I want to take

With super stripes your dealing with co dominant genes. Those could be mixed with other genes. Genetic stripe is a recessive so you also can have hets. Personally, I'd go for super stripe, but that's just me.

I like superstripes because you have a lot more options since there are other allelic genes available. With the superstripe route you can also do ivories, pumas, highways...quite easily.

There's a couple G Stripe projects I wouldn't mind getting into. Mostly G Stripe HRA, G Stripe RA, and Axanthic G Stripe.

a fellow forumer just hatched a Coral Glow Genetic Stripe Lesser last week. she's gonna call it the "Golden Glow"
thread here: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...-Stripe-Lesser!

Honestly the G stripe are not that hot for few reasons. first as said above it s recessive, the superstripe are co dom. and the colors are not as nice as a superstripe. Many stripe gene are not very hot simply because people start understanding that the Specter yB combo aged the best. spark, gravel, asphalt lose colors a lot more! the G stripe is bringing something different but most hobbyist just see a striped snake and prefer SS, puma and highway.
I personnally thinking the G stripe should be consider totally differently and paired with different morphs.
I saw the post on the golden glow... honestly this snake is a genetic power house but in 1 year time the colors will fade out : not the way i would go with G stripe. HRA, leopard, OD and maybe Acid and black AX will make me much more excited.

This is a good point. I personally love the look of genetic stripes and have almost invested in one on more than one occasion. But the superstripes are amazing.

I love working with my recessives and will have a g-stripe in my collection at some point.
I do have a superstripe, though it was an impulse buy and a brain fart all at the same time.
I saw him, liked him, and was thinking something totally different. LoL
They are out there but like already mentioned, many don't want the time to make the recessive.

Re: No interest in genetic stripe?
Personally, I love genetic stripes. I love the perfect stripe and the overall "cleanness" of their look. It's one of the morphs that first got me interested in ball pythons. I do not yet have the pleasure of owning one but I am on the look out for the perfect female.

Honestly I love genetic stripe, like hornets look amazing. I love genetic stripe so much I've even started a project. As a lot of people say, do it for the love of the hobby not the money.

Re: No interest in genetic stripe?
Thanks for all the feedback guys!
Im on the fence about which direction I want to go in regard to genetic stripes and super stripes. It's a project I want to keep in mind and eventually get into but I think I'm going to hold off on investing in it right away. Over the last couple days I've considered going in a different direction with future projects but than again, my mind is always changing!
