    Sunset ball pythons
So I remember watching a video of Brian explaining the sunset ball python and how he thought it wasn't going to be genetic and gave up for a few years and in that time he sold a few to pet stores as normal bps and I'm wondering if those will ever pop out in someone's collection one day

Who sold them to a pet store? If you are talking about BHB reptiles, they never sold them to a pet store... who told you that?

Brian did in a video he let a few go to a pet store unless Brian was lieing but he said how much he regretted it after he decided to go back and breed the babies to the original one and proved it out

really don’t recall what the ratio of all the babies were, but I was 100% convinced it would not be recessive and had little excitement about raising up a bunch of possible:cens0r:hets. I had just raised over 30 female “het” Vipers just to prove that he was an insane looking “normal”. I really didn’t feel like going through that process again. I put a few of the:cens0r:females on the self, marked them Het:cens0r:Sunsets and slowly sold most of the others off to the local pet shops as they needed pet Ball Pythons. To think back now and realize I was selling:cens0r:real:cens0r:"het“:cens0r:Sunsets for $25 make me want to throw up, but I also know those animals went into the pet trade along with hundreds of others that I sold that year and will never surface again

If they were truly sold to pet stores as normals, I very highly doubt that the buyers even know what they have.

That's exactly what he states. Some kid has the het sunsets and doesn't even know it.

Or if someone bought a m and a f at the same time. Then there might be a story.

Yes, but one person would have to have two if that is the case and I really doubt that breeders would go to a random pet store and buy two normal looking animals. And I also doubt that a breeder would buy a couple normal ball pythons from some random person off an internet site such as Kijiji or craig's list.

It's a well known story. Of course the buyers didn't know because they were sold as normals.

I've heard occasional talk for years of smaller breeders wanting to go to that area and buy every normal they can find off craigslist or in the pet stores.

It's highly unlikely that they will pop up. No way of knowing which were hets. Also you have to remember a lot of normal BPs are purchased on impulse as pets. I would guess these poor creatures won't even make it to adults.

One other reason they may never surface is it is unlikely that anyone investing in a Sunset project, would bother pairing their $25,000 to $35,000 animal to a PetSmart Normal. They would likely pair a known het to known het in hopes of producing a visual, and then start putting the visual with other morphs.

But someone could breed a male sunset to a normal female to make more hets, and if that female was one of those missing hets, pop out sunsets. What a day that would be, seeing sunsets popping out of eggs in the incubator!

It's one of those really farfetched possibilities, but it's not impossible either. We all know how snakes can change hands until a person doesn't know the origins, especially with normals. I know a few people who have sold poss hets off as normals, shoot, I've done that myself. It's that tiny possibility that makes everything fun.

Given the handful of hets sold compared to the tens of thousand of normal around this area, I would think buying lottery ticket for that near billion jackpot would be a better investment.

    ................ so you're saying there's a chance!

Haha. Yes. But the idea heartens me a lot better than the thought that every one of those hets will disappear into poor homes and die an early death.

Also I don't think they were sold to that area but in groups to others around the country and even as first time pets you never know exactly where or who got those animals and as I know it's a super super small chance it can happen I'm just wondering how long lol

unless you happened to get a male and female from the pet shops and they both were the lucky 1/2 of the babies that got hit you would never know. its like geting 2 normals and breeding them (which most people wouldnt put the time money or effort into) and getting any other recessive.
