    Experiences with Herpstat 1 Thermostat?
I was wondering what people's experiences with the Herpstat 1 have been.
Has anybody had any problems with it?

Herpstats are one of the top of the line, if not the best for reptiles.

    I love mine!

Ok. I had one but the plug in where the power chord connected to the Herpstat some how got loose and started disconnecting the power.
It started 1 month after the 1 year warranty expired.

Aside from that I was quite happy with it and am thinking of ordering another one. I'm asking other people's experiences to see if what happened with mine is an abnormality.

    Ooh, don't think I'd be happy. :(

Did you contact Herpstat about the problem?

Even if not under warranty they may fix it free anyway, or charge you for the cost of the parts only, which should be cheaper than a new one.

I, too, have a question about the Herpastat 1 Thermostat. Does it only connect to one heat source on the same tub?

You can connect a power strip to connect multiple UTH (all must be the same size and wattage) , however I do not recommend this, power strip overheating have been fire hazard in the past.

There is an herpstat controlling up to 4 heat sources (Herpstat 4)

I have had some of my herpstat for 10 years now and those are one of the best t-stat on the market.

Kind of, but at the same time a resounding no. As long as your heat sources are all the same they can be plugged into a power strip and then that is plugged into the Herpastat. I have a Herpastat two with two zones. Once is for my 36" cages, the other runs my 48" units. Works great, but everything on that one plug is matching.

I have a herpstat 1 redline I used for a couple years with no problems, it's a backup now. Have four 4's on my cages now and they have been working out great. No issues.

I've had my Herpstat 1 for almost 4 years now and it works fine. Had my Herpstat 2 for about a year now and its fine too. My only complaint is my Herpstat 1 doesn't have all the cool bells and whistles of my Herpstat 2 because its 4 years old and using the old firmware I guess but otherwise it has worked fine the whole time.

Well since my edit option doesn't seem to be saving for some reason, what I was trying to say was contact Spyder Robotics and let them know about the problem and the fact it is only a year old. They might meet you half way on some deal like you pay shipping and they fix the plug or something like that. Worth a shot and good luck.

I got one a few weeks ago for my rack system and I love it.
The only issue I'm having is keeping the temps
consistant on the different levels . But that is probably an error
    on my part

If you're going to connect it to multiple sources, I'd go with either a Herpstat 2 or 4. I run two Herpstat 4s and I love them.

All of my tstats are Herpstat. I have two Herpstat 1s, one in use and one as a spare. A Herpstat 2. And a Herpstat 4. I love them all and none of them have given me any issues. They are great!!!

I have 4 Herpstats. I have two II's and two I's. I love them and would never buy anything else. I'm not saying they are better than everything else, but since I have never owned anything else and never had a problem, why would I?

I have two Vivarium Electronics VE-200's and two herpstat 2's, neither one has failed me yet. Both seam to work equally as well.

We are pretty relaxed on our warranty and happy to help when we can. If you can be without it then for sure send it in and we will take care of that for you. Just fill out the info here to generate a RMA:

If that link doesn't go through you will see that page on our main site under the warranty and repairs section. We'll cover you under warranty and take care of the shipping back to you. You just need to ship it in. If you have any questions contact me though the sales@spyderrobotics.com email as I don't get to check the forums often. :)

We are always trying to come out with new features to make the units fit for any application. The herpstats are firmware upgradable but they do have to be sent in for the upgrade. If you find a feature on a newer unit you really like you can always email me with the info and the current version of firmware the Herpstat has and I can confirm if a upgrade is available and help with the process.

Unfortunately any rack setup has some give and take when it comes to regulation. Because heat naturally rises the top is usually the warmest and the lowest shelf is the coolest. Putting the probe on a middle shelf is usually where you start and then the biggest fact is ambient room temperature. If you have a cool room and try to hit upper 80's-90 on a rack you will struggle. Just too much separation. Bumping the room temp a few degrees can make a big difference in consistency. Also there are other things to consider. If the rack is against a outer wall of a home the cool wall can rob the rack of heat. Same goes for sitting on a cold concrete floor. Or having the home heating duct flowing air across it. Plus racks don't hold much heat. Sometimes you can put a layer of foamboard on the back and sides for particularly stubborn racks. Hope that gives some ideas anyway. :)

Sweet! Thanks Dion! I might take you up on that but more likely, i'll probably just save the pennies and pick up either another Herpstat 2 or maybe a Herpstat 4 and just save my Herpstat 1 as a back up unit.

Now if that isn't a stand-up company, I have no clue what is. Only brand of stat I will buy new. Come to think of it, I need a couple 4s when I can scrape the cash together.

Sold!! When the owner of a company comes onto a forum and offers services for even machines out of warranty, it shows me they stand behind their products and customers! I was stuck between herpstat and vivarium but now the scale has tipped. Herpstat 4 is my next purchase :).

I am happy to help. I just wish I had more time to surf the forums and spread my 2 cents. I answer every email that comes into sales@spyderrobotics.com though so anyone can get ahold of me there. Oh, and Herpstat 6 is on the way in a few months for those who need more than 4 outlets. :^)

There are advantages to 3 Herpstat 2 setups. Like if you downsize you can sell off Herpstat 2. If your animals are in different rooms. If you need higher wattage per outlet and so forth. If everything is in a single room where probes can get to the enclosures then the 6 is gonna save a good chunk of money. :)

I don't see a downsize coming anytime soon. Will more likely be picking up one of those 6s when they come out.
