someone in another post a while back about vacuum sealing f/t prey. I picked up one tonight at wal-mart. I sealed each f/t rat in its own little package, now when i'm ready to feed I just thaw it out, cut the bag open warm it up a little and feed. Hopefully this will keep them from getting freezer burn.

Not a bad idea, but I can see the mouse accidentally getting its guts squished out.

Andrew they're frozen solid, I haven't had any squishing guts yet....
They're only $39. I figure it's worth the money I might save on the chance of freezer burnt rats. I consider it a christmas gift to Chief ;D
I also have a shipment of f/t on the way (weaned and small) He won't be ready for the small ones yet but it saves me on shipping charges later on. I order from rodentpro and they're not vacuum sealed so when I get them I will just put them in a big bag and vacuum them all, then when he's ready to step up to them I will seal each one individually.

I know pre killed ones vaccum seal better becuase when thier bodies are soft they will of course fit perfectly, sometimes you get frozen rats in such wierd and awkward positions, and its hard to make them fit together. You can put more in a bag when they arent in such wierd positions .Its funny, i posted a picture awhile back where the rat looked like it was alive and trying to walk away on all fours. But yeah im certainly going to get one of those soon, it sounds like a god idea.

They sealed up pretty good here is a pic of the pups after vacuuming and I don't know if you can tell but there aren't any "air gaps" my batteries went dead before I could get a pic of an individual ones, they seal up even better.

That's why we always name them food names. :) It might be hard to feed off a Fluffy or Pete or Sam, but it's not so hard with Biscuit or Chimichanga.

hahaha that is funny, well i think this first feed is going to be a sight for sore eyes i have 4 kids ranging from 4 to 12 and they want to watch but i think NOT!! and i will just say the cat got it.

Maybe one kid watching per feeding so the snake doesn't have a big audience? My kids were 2 and 4 or just about to turn those when they watched their first ball python feedings. I felt like Marlon Perkins should have been in the room narrating the event. Back then we bred mice to feed the snake and the kids started trying to name them, so that's when I instituted the "food names only" rule.

yeah i was thinking on breeding mice too so they can keep the one they named. but wow i have a dog, cat, two chinchillas, cat, and now a rat all of my animals were rescued, but now have a zoo. I think my female chinchilla is prego and due in feb. her name is sita and her husband rama. The BP is very new here and i am figuring all things out about her home. especially the humidity thing. man it keeps fluctuating from 60% to 90% o yeah the boys got two leapard lizzards and i thought they were african yellow tail hahaha see what i know huh! kinda look the same to me. Well at least they are eating.
