Paper towel for small snakes and babies. Newspaper for older/larger critters.

Paper towels. Stronger, and more absorbent.

Kraft paper...durable, absorbant, cheap, no ink. I got 625ft by 12in roll for $14 off amazon

I use paper towels for youngsters because the "pick your size" half sheets fit just right in my tubs - convenient. I use newspaper over paper towels for anything. The problem I have with paper towels in larger tubs is they just get dragged around. It only takes one little corner to dip into the water dish and you've got a mess on your hands.

I started with paper towels. Seems like they make the sheets shorter? They aren't even square. Anyway, we buy plain white, but they still had a silly looking quilted flower pattern that just doesn't go with my snakes. Also, don't much like the stark white. However, after switching to much better looking unprinted news print, I'm still not happy. It is crinkley. They crawl around under it, and make noise all night.

Try heavy weight kraft paper.....u can get it in a tan color which looks like flat mulch for a more natural look. I also find that 60lb kraft paper and up does not crackle or make much noise.

I use paper towels for hatchlings. But they seem to enjoy scrunching up the paper towels so I put them in all nice and flat and open the bin up an hour later to find bare plastic and a wad of paper towel in the corner.

Newspaper for the bigger snakes. Especially when it's extra humid. I use aspen sometimes when it gets chillier, even though they're all in temp controlled racks. Some of the snakes just prefer aspen, so they get aspen.

I use paper towel, though I do wish I could get a wider paper towel, so I didn't have to use two strips for a single large tub. I like the absorbency, makes cleaning the tub a cinch.
