    Reptile Scan
Is this app any good? From their facebook page it seems they are having issues with updates...

Also, price? Their website says it's $24.99 but on iTunes it says $28.99. Not sure if I am even willing to pay either prices for something a $1.00 note pad and pen does but it would be nice to have something... better organized.

So anyone use this software that know the pros and cons? Thanks.

I use it and LOVE it! I don't use the App much though. I enter everything on the computer. Not sure on the price thing though. Can't remember what I paid for it

Depends on your needs if you have a pet or two I would not see the point however if you have a nice growing collection it definitely is a great tool, I use it and my favorite feature is the QR codes I pretty much enter all my data this way, from feeding to breeding etc.

I don't have an extremely large collection but I do have a collection where I definitely need to keep track. It only takes a few minutes for me to forget who ate and when and what lol. I just wish they had a demo for it before I purchased it... that is the only thing really holding me back from buying it. I am too scared to put money down on something without really seeing it.

I use it for everything as well - both the app and the website for various things. The thing I love about it, besides the functionality, is the developer is very responsive to feedback and is constantly looking for ways to improve. It's hard to beat a great product with customer service to match!

It is worth every penny. The QR codes make data entries easy on the app, and then on the web site you can a lot more

I've been using the demo for herper pro. It's got a lot of stuff on it - also a lot I don't need - but I could see it replacing my excel spreadsheet tracking pretty easily. You could give that a try if you're looking for a software alternative. Demo version you don't get full features and it limits you to 4 snakes I think. I've never tried reptile scan for the same reason - don't want to pay for a product I may not like in the 1st 5 min of purchase.

I have it, love it, and recommend it. The qr codes are such a timesaving feature. You just scan it right there.

Been using Reptile Scan for over a year and a half and really like it. The ease of either using my phone to scan the QR codes or entry on the computer makes it nice a flexible. I have the Pro version which I doubt I'll renew as I don't seem to use most of the features it adds, the basic version is just fine for me.

I would not suggest herperpro. I actually bought it. It has been abandoned by the developers. They haven't responded since January 2014 and have had no updates since. Just go to their FB page and you will see what I am talking about. It is extremely glitchy too. It does what it should though and it does work but without the updates you will find it annoying. When you scan multiple animals, some do not get recorded or gets erased and it is very annoying. When you are working on an entry, it will suddenly go to a different animal making you need to retype EVERYTHING and delete the information on the animal it wasn't suppose to be on. I do not use the program anymore which is why I am looking for a new one. After the shotty HerperPro... it is kind of why I am a little nervous about using reptile scan. But I think I will put my money towards it since most of you seem to like it. Thank you for you replies.

Oh and just another quick question... can you print labels using a regular printer? Thanks again guys.

    Re: Reptile Scan
I print them on to regular paper, and then I use a very inexpensive laminator that I bought at Walmart. I had previously bought the label sheets and just printed it on to that and sick them to the tub. I found that when I cleaned the tub the barcode would smudge. So I just pop a hole with a hole punch, and put it on a clip.

I use name tag badges from walmart and business cards. Very cheap way to do it. It also means I can take the business card out and replace it if I made a mistake or no longer have the animal. And the plastic covering will never need to be replaced. But I know what you mean. Just glad you can use a regular printer. Looks like I will be replacing my snakes's name tags. Thank you!

Well I don't know if its from reading this thread or being home for the last 2 1/2 weeks BUT tomorrow I will be loading all my animals into my new Reptile Scan.
The bad part is I just threw out my old printer a couple months ago.
Looks like I will have to sell a couple of the babies before I get to print the tags :rofl:

Good to know! I hadn't bought it yet but had been considering it because I thought some of the features would be useful - genealogy, lineage - and others would replace my current excel sheet tracking - feeding, shed, everything else.

I wonder if there are any YouTube video of reptile scan showing functionality? I'll have to check after I finish making dinner.

I actually ran out of ink and was able to take all my qr codes and fit them next to each other to be printed on 4x6 size picture paper. Then uploaded them into the walgreens pharmacy/photo app and picked them up later that day. Brought them home and cut them out they were dirt cheap. Pretty sure Walmart also does online print uploads too

Personally I've never used Reptile scan, but I'm thinking to change from HerperPro. I like many functions inside, except the scanning and the reptile list, which I cannot make in order how I like. Sadly it's really abandoned. No updates, no communication... I would like to ask if someone did already the swap from HerperPro to Reptilescan, If he/she can give a small review about the difference between the two softwares. I'm interested about reports and the flexibility of Reptile Scan.

Not to sidetrack but do you only get the photos to load if you have pro?

So I bought the program (Reptile Scan) and it really is good. Better then Herper Pro anyway. Just another question... has anyone ever subscribed for the Pro version? Is it worth it?

Well I got everyone entered and then emailed the QRs to my wife for her to print at work.
Went to Wally world and got a laminator.
    Forgot the double stick tape....

So far it seems pretty cool. Dont know if Im teady to let the paper go though?

    Re: Reptile Scan
I felt free when I broke the chains to reptile scan. No more paper/writing it all down. It's fantastic. The only knock I give it is that you cannot highlight certain snakes to print qr codes with. You search by field but it's not specific snakes that have no common field. But it's a small issue

    Just an FYI...

If you buy something from the Play Store (Android), I know you have a few hours to try the app out and if you don't like it, you can get a refund. I'm not sure about the AppStore, since I'm an Android girl, but I would assume it's the same. :D

Don't know if i have a collection large enough to use Reptile Scan but I do use iherp.com which has all the same features to enter dat except for the app and qr codes. Besides that, it's great. Plus, it's free.

I know a couple people that know more about RS have responded here so instead of making another thread.........

Is there a way to print a QR sheet with selected animals?

When you select QR Print it gives you the whole collection.
When you show the animal it lets you print just that one on one sheet of paper.

If I wanted to print say 3 new animal would I just have to do them on 3 sheets instead of selecting only those 3 to print on one sheet?

the demo is 3 animals and up to 50 events (feeding shedding weight length ect.) it does alow you to have all your snakes breeding medical and other factors if there is ever a problem in a printable format i just purchased mine today. the trail is unlimited on time so if you only have 3 or less snakes its not a bad way to find out what is going on with your snakes and at least gives you a list of factors to include the data of when you have a problem other then just temp and humidity.

I have tried to figure out a way but have not been successful. I know you can narrow it down by using that search bar at the top. For instance, you can narrow it to males or females, or a specific rack. But I really wish there was a way to select specific animals. I sent them an email but never heard back. If you figure out a way let us know. It's the only thing I don't like about the app.

Not sure how big your collection is and what mobile operating system you're on but if you don't have a lot of animals to keep track of and if your phone runs on Android, check out Time2Feed. It's free and you can keep track of all the basics (sheds, feedings, size/weight, gender, age, notes, etc.) and it also allows you to create groups (snakes/lizards/etc.) and has a neat 'quick feeding' feature if you wanna add a feeding record to multiple animals.
It's way cheaper than Reptile Scan and offers similar functionality - though I'll admit I've never used RS.
