    BP waiting period...??
Okay, so I've had my first BP (first snake) for about 4 weeks now and I have this really strange desire to get another one. I'm guessing this is common? LOL It's like when I got my first tattoo... I just wanted more and more. The tattoo guy told me, wait at least 6 months or else you'll be covered with tattoos you don't really want.

So... for you multiple snake owners, how long after your first bp did you wait to get a second?

I lasted almost 6 months between my first and second. :)

I do like the idea of an official waiting period though!

No time, I started by getting two from the same seller. Number 3 came along several months later but was unplanned, a friend had to give it away in a hurry due to family issues. He thought it was a normal male, but eventually "Colt" was renamed to "Collette".

Now that said, I would wait another few months. Get to know your current critter and make sure his husbandry is spot-on while you set up a quarantine area and get the equipment for your next one. Also, we're coming into winter so shipping gets iffy - plus there will be lots of babies in the spring to choose from.

Yeah...I got bitten by the bug pretty hard once I got back into the hobby. Was it the wrong thing to do? Not really, for me at least. I got some great deals that I snatched up. Since my girls decided we should breed (I swear I had no say in the matter!), in hindsight I should have been more discerning in some of my picks. For example, I'm finding myself very Spider gene heavy. I'll probably trade or rehome one to make room for something else in the future, but I can't call any of them a mistake. They are all great snakes and cared for equally. I guess the point is, make good decisions in your acquisitions if you have future plans. Luckily for me, I like Spiders.

I got my first two at the same time, three months ago. Just put down a deposit on a third to be delivered next month, but it's one that I had already wanted. The other two on my shopping list will probably have to wait longer.

Yea, I'll be waiting at least a month or so... and likely until spring. My next purchase is a T8 enclosure which may be good enough to hold two snakes. My plan will be to have it set up with two flexwatts, and two RHP's, in time, so we will see.

I do wish I would have looked into and understood the genes a little better before getting my first. I just feel in love with the mojave's though, so I got a mojave female. I don't regret it one bit, but I do really like pieds, bananas, and albinos.... Time will tell I suppose. :)

I think I lasted almost a year between my first two... Bought my male Octoberish of last year and the baby girl this past August... This last period like 4 months but I won't pick up my BRB for another month

My plan was to get my son one and that's it. I ordered his but it was a hatchling and had to grow a bit. By the time it was ready to ship, I had decided to get one for myself and had put down a deposit for him. We ended up getting them 4 days apart. Now I am looking at more, but I don't have the housing, so until that happens, two is where we'll stay. According to my wife, two is where we'll stay until my son moves out and then we'll have one!

You just wait till you find another one you really want.
Just make sure you have a place to do a proper QT of at least 3 to 6 months.

A friend wanted to get rid of her boyfriends snakes (when he would decide to accept) but never got to it. After that another friend asked me to babysit her BP since she could not keep it at her parents home during the holidays. Few months later and I got my own little one and a little over a month later I got a second one. Now I'm just waiting to hear about first friend about her bf's snakes and the second friend to babysit during the holidays again~ !

One of the benefits of QT is it forces me to be very choosy about the snakes I take in, since I can get at most four per year.

I got three when i first got my balls, all from the same breeder. I got a cinny female her full brother a normal and my yb het hypo female. I planned on inly getting one but walked off with three for $80.

I had them for about a month then got an okeetee corn for 25. Then a week later, i acquired an adult male normal ball with enclosure for free from my mums bfs brother.
I have since sold the cinny, two normals, and the corn, but have in 2 years gone from 4 to 14 snakes.

My waiting period was about 2.5 years...Then I exploded!! lol

Chaos was my first normal bp found him for $40 dollars at a pet store (didn't know better then) I had\have a corn snake for 7 years before that (10 years now) Early this year I went to an expo and grabbed number 2 which is my Ghost Pastel. I liked the breeder so much I looked him up and found he auctions off some his animals periodically...that is when it went bad or good depends on how you look at it . Now this year alone I have added a total of 16 Bps to my collection and built a rack lol! Be careful it can get pretty addicting.

I like that advice. Good for tats (I don't actually have any), good for snakes.

My two snakes showed up unexpectedly, even though I was already a member here, and VERY interested in acquiring some. (I call them gifts from the Cosmos.)

BF has been adamant about NOT adding anything until Spring. I've been looking at corns, and have passed up several of nice localities in the meantime. Probably just as well - I want the corn tank planted in advance. I already have a second-hand 30x12x22 tank cleaned up and on a stand. After pricing out the lighting, drainage, ABS substrate, etc. needed for it, I'll be spending about $200 to set it up (before plants, and no sculptured background. The screen top clips for it are coming next Tuesday. I'm planning for March to have it set up, and maybe April before the plants are established. There are a couple of breeders I'll be checking with beforehand. Looking for a classic Carolina, Apalachachola (spell??), buckskin, or subdued Oaktee (spell?) locality.

At this rate, I think the acquisitions will average out to maybe one a year.
