Can bp's have IBD?Star-gazing is a sign of it.(THIS IS FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD,I AM NOT AN EXPERT)He looks pretty good.I advise you to ditch the stick-on thermometer and hydrometer and get an AccuRite digital thermometer/hydrometer combo for $15.Those stick-ons can be off by 20!
P.S:Welcome to the site!
-
Yea, they can have IBD, and I wouldn't be bragging about the start gazing, cus it is a sign of it.
Welcome to the site!
p.s. bpkid, check your pms on the forum (not this one).

IBD? Irestible Bowel Disease??
-
Welcome to the site! Your new baby is a cutie!! You are correct, they are known as Royal Pythons, but here in America we favor Ball Python for obvious reasons ( as you pointed out in your pictures).
Some info. on the analog thermoms and hygros, they are known to be highly inaccurate. A digital w/a probe works best. As Shaun mentioned, Wal-mart carrys a thermom/hygro digital combo for $15. Also, Do you have 2 hides (one on the warm side and one on the cooler side)? I didn't see any in the pictures. BP's tend to be shy, they like to have a place they can go and escape--or hide if you will.
Yes, BP's can have IBD as they are boids. For more info, Go Here

LOL, no it's Inclusion Body Disease in snakes and for people it's Irritable Bowel Disease!

That snake doesnt look like its stargazing, it looks like its just exploring
And it isnt doing th "ball" thing either, its just curled up.
When they are balled up they are balled up very tight and you cant see thier heads.
-
awwww!!! your snake is very cute!
-
Is Ruby too fat ?
He Has 1 Log on the Cool Side, and fits under the climbing log/plant on the Warm Side. I picked up an Infrared Thermometer to use when actually trying to adjust his temp. The stick-on guys are there to provide a "visable at 3-feet" relative indicator.
As for Stargazing... The articles I've read say that actual stargazing is when the snake remains straight up for long periods of time. This little guy just snoops up to the corner of the tank, gets bored and goes off to do something else.
-
Yes, ive seen them stargazing they just stay there and are totally zoned out with thier head up in the air, very sad, ive seen it at some petstores.
Roxy used to put her neck/head up against the glass for awhile and like you said, then they will go off and do somthing else.
-
so what exactally is "Inclusion Body Disease" and whats the deal with this "stargazing" talk???? Im a little confused.
-
Well, im no expert on the subject but, its suposedly a very bad, very contagious incureable (i think) disease with snakes.Mostly boids
-
man ive only seen my girl climb on her log once and quickly got off of, shes not a very graceful climber.
-
about the stick on temp/humidity things, i foud it to be the opposite i went out and bought one because my humidity read 60% on the digital one when the stick on was reading only 40%. And i belive the temps were a little off too.
-
Yeah of course it was differnt, those stick on things suck !!
LOL you could mist down the whole cage and they dont change all that much. (at least the one i had didnt)

It's an incurable retro virus. It can spread to any snake in the boid family (I think it's family). That includes boas and pythons. It's one of those things that could wipe out all of the boas/pythons you owned.
Melissa Kaplan's wesite has some good information and a heartbreaking story on it about one owner's trouble with IBD.
I wouldn't worry about your snake though, exploring and searching around is prefectly normal :)

my BP's name is Monty to....
do u know why urs was named Monty by any chance?
-
We batted around a few names, and the wife made a point of saying "your snake.. you name him".. So I listed a few names I thought would be great:
Zeus
Thor
Vlad
Hiram
Jachin
Boaz
Solomon
And she opens his little card-board take-home-box and says "hi Monty!" and it just stuck we're both Huge Monty Python's Flying Circus Fans. We almost re-named him Brian until I said I'd put a shoe in the tank as a Hide.

heat/humid. levels in my tank for new blood

just in case you wanna find that specific brand it's spelling is "Acu-Rite"... i wanted to look it up & i found that out... maybe my work will save you a couple minutes ;)
-
i found the stick on one to be more accurate actually. The digital one was saying 60% while during sheds it was a miricle to get any less then a thousand dry shed peices. When i got the sitck on and saw the true low readings she was shedding better ever since i swiched.
-
I have 2 accurite thermo/hygros in my tank and the humidity level on both of them are the same. I had 2 of those needle kind and neither one of them had the same reading even when sitting side by side.
-
well since most of you are telling me that the stick on ones are much better im going to go out and buy another digital one and see what the readings give me. But what do i do if they are both different, which on is right!?!? hehe
-
i have 4 thermometers in my tank; a digital, 2 aquatic, and another thermometer/hydrometer combo, so i know what each of the little areas feel like.
-
And do your digital ones tell different temp/himid then the other kinds do, or are athey all pretty close.
-
The best way to tell is a temp gun. They are the best out there from what I've heard.
-
Ya but do they cost 10 million dollars hehe. Im not a rich person
-
They aren't that expensive. I got one from radio shack for $30 They're great for spot checking temps. I mainly use mine to check the temp of f/t rats. My bp is pretty picky I have to have the temp around 100 before he will show ANY interest.

They are ususally very differnt..........take it from me and almost everyone else who uses them, they are one of the best things you can use and are a heck of alot more acuurate than those suckie stick on things.

Belive me, the digital will be right......i owe my three healthy snakes and plenty of healthy sheds to them.
