Terrarium content
If this is the wrong section for this thread, I'm sorry! D:
But can someone tell me what branches there are and what is that big branch called in this picture: http://pvccages.com/wp-content/uploa...ge-946x360.jpg ? It drives me crazy because I love those branches, especially the biggest one in the middle and I want to copy that idea! :p
Also if someone knows what website to get them that ships to Finland and the shipping isn't overly expensive, I would be sooooo happy and grateful. Thank you!

Re: Terrarium content
I could be wrong but it looks like java wood. I see them around my Petco and petsmart for $$$$. However, I do see them at reptile shows for way cheaper.

Not too sure about shipping to Finland....sorry. Maybe just knowing the name may yield some good results for you. 😁

Re: Terrarium content
I think it's grapevine branches, I use them for my chameleons. Here is a link on Amazon not sure if that works where you are. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002A...apevine+branch

Blaargh! I searched Java wood on Amazon and only found 2 reptile branches, they don't mach the branch in the terrarium. Then I found forest branch, which doesn't match the branch and is too thin to be it anyway. Grape Vine is the only branch that could match it because of the thickness, but can't find a similar looking one and all the products have the same picture, I want to see the shape. :frustrate

looks too thick at certain points and too twisty and too many knots to be java wood. i would think grape vine wood or mopani.
Amazon ships worldwide. and maybe some of the big online reptile supply shops like LLLreptile, Bean Farm, Reptile Basics, TSKsupply, etc. would too.
are u building a big terrarium? we would love to see the final pix. :)

That's what I thought too! I can find mopani in many finnish websites, but all the ones I see doesn't look like the branch either. It has to be grape vine, I haven't found anything else that could be it.
Noo, I'm not building one haha. I bought an ugly finished one which has metal silver-colored frames and the 'floor' is metal too and colored silver. Too bad I didn't realize to take a picture before I spray painted the frames in black and I still have to paint the bottom in black also. Starts to look much nicer now, I can take a picture when it's finished. :)

No, it will be for my Mexican black kingsnake. :) That's why I will spray paint the frames and floor in black, will suit the snake so perfectly.
My BP is still a baby, so she has to wait a long time before I put her in a terrarium. :)
Ah, okay cool! Thanks a bunch!

It's sandblasted as well if you find natural grapevine it will look darker. You can get bigger pieces at shows or directly from a vineyard however the piece I linked to above is the largest I've been able to find online. It will be random what you receive might have a long run lots of small branches or a single large fork. I only buy at shows now so I can handpick but understand that may not be an option for you. Good luck it's a great functional decoration they love to rub shed off on the branches.

Ah, yeah unfortunately I can't go to shows much. Everything is so far from me, if there's a show in Finland it's all the way in Helsinki and I hate that city haha. I just have to order stuff for my snakes, but that's quite okay.
I found one finnish website where the owner sells grape vines, the largest one was sold out though. I contacted her and asked when she will get more of them and if she could send me some pictures and hopefully she can mail the branches to me. :)
Thank you! Haha yes and good to climb on for my kingsnake. :D

Try Josh's Frogs, Black Jungle, or New England Herpetoculture. (spell?)
I have seen smaller pieces of that wood before on one of those sites. The photo looks like several large pieces to me. Not a cheap wood.
-
Can you get driftwood, or just weathered wood?
Scrub well, and maybe heat to sterilize so there are no mite eggs.
I like the way bonsai creators make the "jins" the dead wood of trees. Some artfull scraping, carving and torching of an ordinary dead branch could be visually effective.

First two didn't have anything nice but I liked the ghostwood New England Herpetoculture store has, sadly they can't ship wood decor internationally.

One finnish website sells iron driftwood and desert driftwood. The desert ones look quite nice.
I should just go have a walk in the woods and search around if I could find a nice branch or two. How would you heat it and where? In the oven? I would be scared that it bursts into flames. D:
Yeah those are really cool! :)

Re: Terrarium content
For you have your own driftwood boiling water in a large pot then pouring over the wood is what I've done in the past. Never had mite or bug problems after.

I hope there's driftwood in my area, but that I will do. Thanks. :)

Guess I have to order from Amazon at some point, it's winter here now so can't go look outside for a branch.

u will not be able to communicate and choose specific individual pieces of wood/vine with a company like Amazon tho. that would work if you are flexible with what epithet will send u. On the other hand, a smaller company in the Wall Street sense, but big in the reptile world might be able to send u pix of individual pieces of wood for u to choose.
either way, good luck and we look forward to pix of your MBK and its enclosrure. :)
