Only eating when food left in cage and roaming at night
Hi all, my lemon blast ball hasnt struck at food for about 4 weeks now, I leave the rat in the cage and by the morning it's gone so she is eating ok. I have also noticed that she roams a lot at night, almost non stop, but is in her hide in the day.
Is any of this concerning?
Also she is a year old but a bit small for her age (pet store said she was a bit of a fussy eater) all temps and humidity are ok

Ball pythons are nocturnal, so they will spend most of the day hiding/sleeping. Your BP may not feel safe eating while there's lights on.

That's true although my other ball just sits in her cave for about 23 hours of the day with her head poking out in the evening

Mine won't eat unless it's left there overnight either. I wouldn't worry about that as long as she's eating.

She also does this now and again ( burying herself under her rock cave) it's on the cold side.
She does have a bit of stuck shed on her so I assuming she is trying to get it off

My bp's strike and I've never had issues feeding but my juvi brazilian rainbow boa won't eat in front of me. She'll strike the pinkie on the tongs but if I move the slightest bit she'll just drop it. I've started leaving the pink right in front of the entrance of her hide and she eats it when I'm gone and things are quiet. She's never skipped a meal, but she just doesn't want me around and I respect that. I think some snakes are just naturally shy and need some privacy.

Re: Only eating when food left in cage and roaming at night
At first my BP was eating in full light with me and my brother present. Lately he's become a little particular about his eating habits. I now have to feed him either late in the day or around midnight, it must be very dark, and he often won't take it at first. Weirdly, when I heat it up a second time in (warm but not hot) water, he takes it instantly.
Basically, BPs can be very particular.
Like others have said, you may have better luck with having your BP eating faster if you reduce the light or even try feeding later in the day.

My male SP did that for about a month as well. I had just moved him into his new T8 and had also had to switch him to pet store bought f/t rats. Since Ive gotten more f/t rats from the vendor at our local expo he's back striking and coiling again. They are weird sometimes.

Are you talking about a f/t rat being left in overnight? Because leaving a live rat in with your BP unsupervised can be disastrous for your snake. Just checking.........

I guess as long as she is eating and hiding in the day there is nothing to worry about

Nope. She's fine. I have a few like that. Open enclosure, leave food on hide, close enclosure, the food is eaten sometime in the middle of the night.

My ball has to have it very quiet and dark and, even then, sometimes I just leave it for her to eat later (as she feels comfortable). My boa knows when it is coming and is ready to come out of his enclosure to rip it out of my hands. I guess I should feed him more often but I have a feeling that he would do that everyday - such a little piggy! Last week he got the tongs and all. He was halfway out, head up in the air, periscoping and nailed the tongs and rat in mid air. Later I had to remove the tongs from around his body.

I have an adult female over 2000g and she won't eat unless the lights are off and I'm not there. If I turn off all the lights and come back 10 min later , the rat is always gone!

Re: Only eating when food left in cage and roaming at night
I have a very specific arrangement with my pied. I am to arrive alone, deposit the ASF at the specified location (the door of her hide), make myself scarce, and no one gets hurt.
"Let's not do anything rash now! There's no need to refuse... we can work this out! Look, I'm leaving now..." *Backs away slowly*
Honestly, sometimes the only reason I know she's alive is because the ASFs disappear.
