My BP lost in my car behind the dash
Last night I took my BP to a vet after a suspected rat attack but he was cleared by the doctor. However during our drive back home he escaped from his container.

I found him under the dash where I could not reach or pull him out without hurting him. I decided to wait in the car. Later I found he had crawled deeper in. I spent the whole night in the car hoping he would crawl out. Now I cannot even see him. I even checked under the hood.

I am worried sick. It is cold and it's raining. Please tell me what I should do.

don't run the car for very long. once the thermostat opens, hot coolant runs through the heater core, which would be bad if the snake was near it. Do not run the blower fan for heating and cooling. incase the snake made his way in there. Honestly I would be taking my dash apart, but I've been working on cars my whole life. If your car is factory, it is doubtful they would have a way out of the car. but there are 12904833902 models of cars and obviously I can't say that for sure. If you have a garage you can clear out or something, pull in there to get out of the cold weather or better yet push it in there. maybe a heat pad under a hide on the floor board might get their attention? but basically your snake is scared and they aren't going to want to come out.

future advise, either use a snake bag/pillow case to transport them in or something like like this with a few holes in it. http://www.sterilite.com/SelectProdu...=253&section=1

    also... suspected rat attack?

Thank you. I thought the rat had bit him while feeding when I saw some blood on his heat pit. But it seems it was rat blood or something. So I took to the emergency vet in Ann Arbor.

I live in an apartment complex where there is no covered parking. I am not good with cars, so taking it apart myself would be questionable.

As you suggested, I am going to put a hot water bag and his personal hide on the floorboard. And I will go to Petco to get a mouse if that lures him out.

Yep the heater core is the source he is probably going to.
Temperature while running is usually around 215 degrees.
Depending on the vehicle, you are probably going to have to almost completely remove the whole dash

Oh my I would take the dash out of the car, call around and see if you can find some help on getting that out. I say for travel you need something that locks down tight and snaps be sure if you go with the Plastic drill some air holes. Hope you find him.

Maybe you could try lowering it out with a feeder. If you put a heat source and a hide in the car near where you think the snake is hiding, I would imagine as the car cools down the snake will seek out a warm spot and hopefully find your heat and Hyde.

If you need help getting the dash apart, find a car audio installer as they are usually quite good at it. It may cost you some money, but getting your snake out safely without wrecking your car is probably worth it.

I'd try luring it out first like you are planning though.

Thank you for your suggestions. A coworker of mine is taking the dash apart right now with the stereo removal kit. Mouse didn't lure him out. Hope he is still alive.

WE GOT HIM OUT!!! I caught a glimpse of him from the floorboards looking up. He was behind the dash panel (speedometer and all) When we knew exactly where he was, we pulled the dash panel out and pulled Noodles out after a little struggle. Apart from being cold he seems okay.

    Good job!

Now in the future for travel:
    1) Snake goes into a bag.
    2) Tie the bag shut.
    3) Put the bag into a latch box, not just a plastic tub with a snap-on lid.

    Yay!!!!
The relieved look on your face when you got him out was so heartwarming! I would have cried the whole night if any of my babies were in that situation! your calmness is awesome! So glad this ended well for you and noodles!
Also, I loved your remark "I dont care about the speedo!"
    Congrats!

As a hardcore grease munkey. I salute you lol. That dash would have been shrapnel all over the driveway. Car looks newer too. All that wiring had to be a nightmare to fetch the snake.

I don't know much about cars. My friend did all the work. Yeah, it's a fairly new car. 2014 Subaru Impreza.

Congrats! Glad it ended well. I know how hard they can be to pull out when they're gripping something. It took me half an hour to get mine out from being wedged between my medicine cabinet mirror and wall. She was completely locked in. I had to just rub my finger on her while pushing up inch by inch until she slowly scooted out the top of the crevice and I could get her.

I hope everything works out for you! I know your pain of a lost pet in a car. Don't start it, if it's a newer model he should have no way to get to the engine bay, older model only way he can get out is small holes where wires run through the fire wall, if you lift your hood and look at the wall behind the engine you should see where wires rum through at multiple holes, plug those holes with something like rags to keep him from running into the engine bay and you can trap him inside the dash enabling you to get him without a chance of escape, check wires since they will run warm, metal parts usually stay cool so less likely for him to be cringed to one.

Thank you. I got him back. We took the dash apart a bit with some help of my friends.
