Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Last weekend we want to the Tinley Park NARBC show, and we were only *supposed* to come home with my husband's Vietnamese Blue Beauty . . . Fail! My excuse is that the very few Stimson's pythons I saw at the show were very faded-looking.
This is my new boy, who is officially named Yurlunggur, but got nicknamed Bruce on the way home:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...ee7cdbc70e.jpg
I got him from GFX Morelia, hatched June 2014. He's fear-nippy, just like my Centralian, but may already be getting better (or I'm learning how to handle them).
His typical "I am a big scary snake! Fear me!" pose:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...5e26974271.jpg
Interestingly, he's the first of our snakes to like a top-entrance hide, presumably because he likes being arboreal.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...fe8b99aabd.jpg
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...e8216aa4fc.jpg
He decided light cables were a good perch:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...737f5865db.jpg
I replaced that light with one that wouldn't need cable loops in the cage (I'd tried to save a little money, should have gotten the second light to start with) . . . Fail:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...3aa9ba84ac.jpg
So on a trip to Reptile Rapture on Saturday I got him a Magnaturals shelf; and yesterday my husband built him a jungle gym. First test-fit:

Trim and re-center. Bruce approves:

I got an artificial vine yesterday, maybe tonight I can get it laced across to give him more options.

Very nice JCP Prog. I love the PVC monkey bars :).

Bruce is quite the gorgeous boy! He looks at home as well.
Congrats!

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Beautiful snake, and I love his enclosure! The walls and decor really make his colors and pattern pop.

He looks great. I really like his enclosure as well.:)

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
His enclosure is plain white, but I think it picks up some blue from the LED lighting we use (which has no actual blue LEDs).
The monkey bars are mostly schedule-mumble (the thinner-wall off-white stuff) 1/2" PVC for the lower frame, uprights, and fittings. The upper bars are dowels - we found the inside-coupling elbows you can see in the test-fit picture, which allowed the use of a smaller dowel, IIRC 3/8". I think the thicker dowel is 1/2". Everything fit together tight enough that AFAIK my husband hasn't bothered to glue it together (plan is/was to use hot glue, not PVC solvent cement).
When Bruce grows up/gets a grownup enclosure, we were talking about making a PVC tree, especially since he's also still using the tree in the pictures.
Pretty sure my husband likes building snake toys a lot better than doing real plumbing. [emoji3]

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Aww!! He looks like my old jcp! They really do love climbing. Be careful though. My girl got out once and I found her curled up inside my printer!!
However, once jcps get big they require the biggest, tallest tank you can find. They need length obviously, but they also want to climb as high as possible. Save for it now!

Prog, by any chance did you name Bruce after Bruce Wayne, aka Batman?
-
Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Nope, the Monty Python "Bruces" sketch, in which all the professors at an Australian college renamed Bruce, and the new guy named Michael is asked if they can just call him Bruce to avoid confusion. And now Bruce has stuck instead of Yurlunggur.

That is funny!
So so are you going to call all of your snakes Bruce? :D
The reason I was thinking Bruce Wayne is because of the Bat marking on the forehead.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
I *finally* got the vine wrapped on Bruce's jungle gym yesterday - we'd made a run down to Chicago Reptile House to get a mister for Dracos' Vietnamese a blue beauty, and we also picked up some Magnaturals vines, so it ended up being cage decoration day - Bruce, Yingarna, Haku the milk snake, and the Mà Xanh the VBB all got new foliage to play in/on.
I think Bruce approves of his vine, he spent a bunch of the afternoon/evening cruising around re-discovering the landscape.

Looking great Prog. I really like the artificial vines. I've got to give my carpets more climbing places.
-
Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
He likes it so well he wouldn't let go tonight when I tried to take him out for his pre-meal weight check. :)
While I was feeding the pythons Dracos was building a collapsible jungle gym/tree/tipi for the snakes. The corn snakes tested it tonight, Bruce may get to play on it tomorrow.

I put up the snake tree after lunch, and after my arboreal BP had play-time on it, I got Bruce out. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01...c4a1550d3c.jpg

Bruce shed yesterday, but we didn't check it for eye caps, etc., as he managed to poop in it as he shed. [emoji39] Oh well, it made cleanup easy, and I'll check him this evening when I have him out for weighing.

Bruce is always photogenic, and earlier this week he was ignoring me enough to get some good close-up shots. Usually he tries to investigate, so I end up with blurry shot of his nose filling the frame.

The "Thanks" button is at the bottom of each post.
Folks use it not only to thank, but to agree/Amen and like as well.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Poor Bruce is having a bad shed - patchy, flaking, a total mess. Despite two rounds of snake sauna last night, his head and neck still hadn't shed, so I'll give him another sauna tonight if needed.
But he was such a good boy about it - it seemed like he knew we were trying to help, and when my husband was putting him back in his enclosure, Bruce was all "Noooo! Want to stay out and rub my chin on you!" [emoji4]
I suspect the problem is/was the weather getting cool, the house heat not on until last night, and so his RHP was working hard and drying things out more than usual. We put a nice wet towel on the shelf under his RHP, which should stay warm there, raise the humidity, and give him another rough-ish thing to work with.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
@ Prog- What are your humidity levels like? I've had my humidity hit 30% in the winter and 65% in the warmer months and haven't had a bad shed with any of my carpets yet. I'm just wondering at what point it causes a problem with shedding. I'm sure you'll get Bruce sorted out quickly.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
That is a really pretty snake. You said its a stimsons python?? May have to consider one of those as they are clearly more active than ball pythons lol. Love my KB YB and my past.butt.ghst but all they do is hide haha.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Not sure what the humidity has been - everybody has been having good sheds, so I haven't checked the enclosures with hygrometers. [emoji849] And then the weekend was miserably humid (IMO), so it's probably good *now*. Sigh, teach me to get all cocky about things running smoothly.
Another sauna Saturday, and even tried a bath yesterday - he wasn't sure about it at first, then he cruised around the tub calmly, but with a good foot of head and body periscoping. But my husband did get a couple spots I was worried about loose. There's still some small patches left, but nothing worrisome.
And he's gotten to be a big boy! Not the cute little worm that came home from Tinley last year. [emoji4] And definitely mellowed out.

Nope, he's a Jungle Carpet Python. Stimson's aren't as flashy, and smaller. I think Stimmies are more like my Spotted python - more active than a BP, but not always on the move when they're out, like the Morelia. My spotted girl hides when the lights are on, but is out on the jungle gym when the lights are low - she has Bruce's old cage, as it happens.

Bruce is getting to be a big boy - I think he's about 5' long now. I've got him on small rats every other week. Imthink he enjoyed being out on my drawing table unrestrained.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Thank you all! He's such a handsome boy, and a good personality - he isn't exactly willing to come out, but not cranky about it, and on the move when he is out, but exploring, not escaping from scary monsters.

Good to hear.
They get better and better with handling. Sans the royal python here, the carpet is the easiest to take out. She is great in and out of here cage.
I'll keep an eye out for more pictures of your beauty.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
After taking Ying the Bredli out for some pictures in the sun, I tried with Bruce. Nope nope nope! Am Mamma's Boy! [emoji4]He zipped back to my shoulders and was rather resistant to leaving me, so no pictures of how pretty and iridescent he is in the sun. I'm guessing he's about 6' now. He's getting some browning in his yellow, and his head seems to be getting big. But he's still my good squeaky boy (lots of little noises when he's out exploring). Medium-size iPad for size.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Bruce had an adventure today. Pictures here:
https://goo.gl/photos/eEH2AXjTn8EUenXd9
After exploring a small table, and comparing his head to my iPhone 6, he stretched the 18"+ over to the chair. Then I took him over to the stairway bannister. It was a little slippery, but he figured out how to anchor and hold onto the brackets. He slowly cruised up to the top, hung out and looked around for a bit, then meandered back down.
Last picture should be a video clip.

Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
When I got home last night I noticed Bruce had shed. Well, that's probably why I thought he wasn't looking his best on the 1st. Reached in to take the shed out and WHAM! Somebody was not pleased and took it out on my hand. I suspect I startled him, and was reaching in above his head level.
Looked in, took the first picture, took the shed out, took the second picture.

I love this site. My co-workers would flip out, especially if they noticed the bite marks on my hand (they were amazed when I picked up a wild fox snake this AM). Here, its a cool picture. [emoji4]
Last night was feeding night, as it happens. This is a rabbit week for the big carpets and the boa, so he got a day-old kit. I did wonder if it was a feed response.

@ Prog- Where do you get your rabbits from?
-
Re: Yurlunggur, aka Bruce (picture-heavy)
Ziggy - There's a local-ish (northern IL) feeder breeder I got them from, Rat Pack Feeders (.com). Her shipping prices were pretty painful, though, so I picked them up at the local expo.

You don't have, bring-your-snake-to-work-day, at your office?? That would be some good team building!
And rabbit week seems quite productive as well. I'm still on medium rats so I have a ways to go.
Great pics, thank you!
