California red sided garter snake
Looking to get into garters and was wondering if anyone is breeding these beauties. I'd like to pick up a pair of anyone has them available or knows someone working with them. Pic attached for reference.

Re: California red sided garter snake
Look up Scott felzer's garter snakes on google. Thats the only guy I've been able to find that produces more than just checkered or plains garter snakes online.

Scott Felzer is no longer in the industry. He was one of the original large scale breeders of garter snakes. If it was not for Scott, some of our garter snake morphs would not even be in the hobby. He is still the greatest! However, Jeff Benfer aka "the garter snake morph" is the main large scale breeder of many special morphs at the present time. He does have projects inclusive of the t.s. Infernalis (California red sided garters). You can google " garter snake morph" to access his page. I think he may be sold out at the present time. I will have a t.s. Infernalis project that will have results for late 2016. Good luck and welcome to Thamnophis.

Aw man, I was really looking forward to purchasing a Erythistic eastern garter from him.

So, all is not lost! Why don't you check with Jeff? He has them. As a matter of fact , he recently put up for sale a large erythrystic female proven breeder. I know she was on fauna classifieds very recently. Erythrystic eastern female! She is huge too.
Re: California red sided garter snake
Sweet! I'll definitely look at his site. I been thinkin about getting into breeding garters and that's be an awesome one to breed, especially to get some extreme red babies.
Re: California red sided garter snake
Thank you guys for the info, I'll definitely have to check that all out. They are gorgeous snakes and I would just like to own a female if nothing else.

Sorry, which picture are you claiming looks altered?
Re: California red sided garter snake
If you get one you definitely gotta post some pics of it. Those are one of my favorite garters along with the coast garter found in Humboldt county California.

I'll admit it does look like it may have a filter on it, but I've seen several pics that bright so I don't know

I agree about the filter - the green sort of glows, but I don't think the colours are all that mis-represented. I've seen others that looked just like it.
...This pic of the garter is not like some of the snakes you can find on Pinterest - there is one of a BP in mint green. (I expect if that snake actually existed, I would have seen it here first!)

I breed this garter, as do several other breeders including Jeff Benfer. I can tell you for sure that there are localities in California where the animal can look like this particular animal. They ( California red sideds) have cousins known as the San Francisco garter snake which appear to resemble this animal in coloration with a different patterning. The S.F. garter is endangered and federally protected. Actually the animal in the photo is more representative of the S.F. garter snake. I believe the photo is legit.
