Fed ex nightmare....
Longtime lurker but never been very active on this forum but know y'all are the only ones that can relate to my day today. Sure everyone knows the popular how much would you spend on a ball thread, well until a few weeks ago I was in the $300 range then I fell in love with and add on kingsnake.... Liesen Line Black Pastel Clown, the Addison Clown. First one for sale and a male, I had to have him. Ended up calling Gary and getting a deal worked out for the male and a female clown. Took today off work to receive my shipment, tracking showed it in my local sort facility at 6am, so exited the morning crawls by slowly, around 1030 knock knock it's fed ex, with an Amazon delivery and no snakes?! I get on the phone, explain its live animals and the start a claim and promise they will call back within 2hrs. Nobody calls I'm calling back at 2hrs on dot and get the run around, tracking now says unknown delivery time blah blah they assure me its in the sort facility and missed the truck. Gary is now calling them from his end also getting run around, were thinking with the heat back if it's in Florida on the ground likely dead by around 1pm est. I call them back again and now it never made it to the sort facility it's on an airport loading dock in another state, luckily a slightly colder one! Just spoke with them again and supposedly being delivered tomorrow now and they said they would bring it into the office off the loading dock but refused to open package to remove heat pack despite assurances about snakes being securely packed within. Looks like temps around 83 there and were thinking the heat packs probably dropped to around 90F, not sure if I'll be getting a worlds first or just be the first guy to bury one tomorrow.

i'm so sorry :( it's one thing to lose a thing, but it's really sad that they would act a way to endanger an animal's life. keeping my fingers crossed for you
-
Re: Fed ex nightmare....
So sorry that's happening to you! I'd be so angry- hope they're alright.

Oh man that's just horrible! Hoping for the best :please:, please let us know how it turns out.
-
-
Yes, please keep us posted on the outcome. Thanks in advance and sorry to hear about your troubles.
-
In most cases even with a missed flight and late delivery if the shipper did a good job the animal will be fine, Fedex lost 3 of my shipments in the last year, all were delivered the following day and all animals were fine.
Most of the time what we fear the most does not happen so no need to torture yourself right now.

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Thanks for support everyone, still getting the runaround they're telling shipper its in Florida and me its in Memphis. So frustrating if it is in Florida I can easily go pick up. Glad to hear that others have had positive outcomes in the situation. Gary has been shipping snakes 20 years and this is first he's had go missing so maybe we're both a little too concerned.

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
I'm so sorry to hear this. It sucks being disappointed I know, especially when you lost something so valuable.
I recently lost a snake due to heat also. It was a complete accident but a long story.
The best advice I have is this;
If the snakes don't survive, and you would like your money back, then keep the receipt (if you have one) of the transaction between you and the breeder. Take the receipt to FedEx and see if they will resolve the issue. FedEx typically has good customer support, I'm really sorry and shocked that you had to go through this. Hope all goes well, please keep us updated on everything and let us know how everything goes! I will be thinking about you today.:tears:
-
Ugh! That's no fun! I've had two 'lost in transit', one of which was during a very sudden cold snap. Both arrived two days late, but both were in perfect health.
I had an axolotl get lost in the USPS for 10 days! He was thin, but just fine. He was in one of those 'breather bags' of water.

You might think it’s a great advice but it does not work that way.
And this will accomplish NOTHING, Fedex does not cover animal shipments, this is one of the thing you agree upon when becoming Fedex certified.
The only thing that can be claimed with Fedex is a refund of the shipping cost however that claim MUST be done by the shipper and it rarely ever pays off as things can be out of their control (such as delays due to weather), if the package was not routed properly the shipper may be refunded (again shipping will be refunded)
In case of a DOA it’s between the breeder and the buyer, most breeders offer live arrival guaranteed , those using SYR can purchase insurance, other using Reptiles Express or their own Fedex account (must be certified) will simply take the loss and refund the buyer.

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Update- after more failed attempts from both sides to get past the runaround from "tracking specialist" telling us different stories at the same time Gary finally reached the management level and what a different story! Very apologetic about the lack of returned calls, conflicting stories etc, turns out snakes where in Memphis inside a container inside a building all day, flew them to jax around 5 and are supposed to be special delivered tonight by 930est. Will let yall know how this turns out. Can't say enough good things about Gary Liesen, he's been on the phone all day trying to track down his snakes and repeatedly assured me he would make things right if they are dead or end up sick because of this even though it wasn't his mistake and fed ex doesn't insure live animals. Hoping we have a happy ending tonight!
-
As I have my first ball python being shipped to me with an arrival due for tomorrow, I'm now going to spend all night paranoid. I've received plenty of corns through fed ex, but still... I guess that at least mine is a hold-for-pick up?

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
This day can't get any stranger, after much anticipation knock knock it's a special delivery! I have to sign a bunch of papers from the private company that delivered the box all with my name address etc, she gives me box and I open it without thinking to read the label, was clearly a reptile shipment so it had to be mine right? Wrong, I know somethings wrong when I only see one bag and no heat pack- the source of my stress all day. I still haven't looked at the label open the bag and sit out slithers this little one, maybe an ultramel? Very small but active alert and totally not my snake, not my package. I got someone else's delivery from boa barn. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j1...psmsanc5ce.jpg

Oh fudgecake! What a mess! Hopefully yours ended up going to whoever ordered that one from Boa Barn so it's safe.

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Ughhh :-/ ... I hope you can get things sorted out soon... but what a shock that must have been.
Like Spiritserpents, I'm supposed to receive my first Ball Python shipment tomorrow. I hope EVERYONE has good news soon.

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Who knows at this point, with the levels of incompetence I've dealt with at Fed Ex today nothing would surprise me now. Guessing I'm going to get mine delivered tomorrow am hopefully alive and will need to track down the buyer of this little one, I'll do my best to get him delivered without going back into their system. Think I've found the guy online already will message him and go from there. Can't believe they wouldn't have checked the labels at multiple points before it got to me tonight, pure stupidity.

Well, it's pretty! Sucks that it's the wrong box and snake though. [emoji53]

I'll bet that is going to be an interesting conversation! And hopefully the buyer is close enough for a face-to-face handoff.

What a crazy ordeal. I'm so sorry you're having to go through...and apparently so is someone else. I'm happy to hear about Gary being so involved in the hunt. I've never had this situation happen, I'm glad I didn't read this last night with 2 shipments coming. One arrived today and ones scheduled for Thursday arrival. I hope it all works out. Again, I'm sorry you have to go through all this. Good luck and keep us all posted.

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Found buyer of this little one of FB and sent him a message with my number, hoping to get him to the right owner without Fed Ex botching that up too. He seems happy to be in a tub with some belly heat, bag was only 78 when I checked with temp gun and guessing this little one is less than 60 grams sure it was a bit chilly.

Hiya Gang, this unfortunate situation brings a good point to light. What are your favorite shippers? Have you had bad experiences with certain shippers? Thanks for your input.
-
Great job tracking down the other buyer. That's awesome.

Might want to start a new thread for that ;)

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Oh man...now I am a bit nervous about my little guy. I do hope yours makes it home safe and sound. I am also glad to hear that you tracked down the buyer of the other bp. Man, what a crazy day! :rolleye2:

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Update- Happy ending to this story! The right package just arrived, and everyone is alive. Other buyer is coming over to pick up his enchi ultramel, fed ex sent someone over to pick it up knowing it had been opened, when the driver arrived he didn't seem to have that message and hopped right back in the truck got on the phone and drove away without it. For my package despite being told multiple times it was in Florida luckily they had been in Memphis all day yesterday not cooking on a truck. Female clown is in shed and hasn't been very active but sure she's just stressed from the ordeal, male was active, and curious cruised around his tub before settling into the hot hide after I put them in the rack. Again can't say enough positive things about Gary Liesen at snakemans snakeshop, he's been constantly on fed ex to figure this out, his passion for these animals was obvious from the start and we're both relieved they seem ok after the ordeal.

Glad to hear that!

All is well that ends well. Enjoy the critters.
-
Glad to hear everything turned out fine.
(And respect for your nerves.. I cannot imagine myself in your place, without a chainsaw massacre in the closest fedex facility.)
-
Glad your ordeal is over and all are safe! :)

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Glad to hear a happy ending to this odd situation! Happy that your bps made it home and that the other has also made it to it's new home. :D
-
That was just crazy! I'm so pleased everyone is okay!
-
Great news, glad it all ended well. Now to see if my guy shows up tomorrow....

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Thanks again everyone, funny thing other buyer was actually friends with Gary on FB and had been reading his post to a ball python group about this the entire time it was going on!
-
They seem to screw up a lot. Remember all those videos of them throwing packages over fences and stuff. Crazy. Glad everyone is safe and sound.
-
I was wondering how this turned out. Thanks for the updates, and glad everything turned out okay.
-
I just read through the entire thread just now, and what a literal nightmare... I also respect your nerves for how you appeared to be handling the situation. So glad that everyone is alive and everything turned out well!
-
Ok, so we'll have to see if I can keep cool. My package from Josh at Cape Fear Constrictors is MIA as well. Josh has already offered to make things right in the event the package isn't found or the little guy doesn't survive. I'm not upset with him at all. Just want the little guy to be OK. He's got the ball rolling with Fedex investigating the situation. So we'll see how this plays out. Keep your fingers crossed. The Fedex nightmare continues....

Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Ughhh :-/ ... Good luck on everything turning out well.
-
Thanks, What a pain. Both the breeder and I have called and are trying to get it resolved. I'll keep you all posted.
-
Re: Fed ex nightmare....
Noo! Sorry to hear that. They likely will not call you back so if your calmer than me just wait until tomorrow or try to get to someone up the food chain and maybe get a straight story. I really think they just don't know where the packages are when they go missing until the next time it happens to be actually scanned into or out of a facility. We got told different states all day and it wasn't until they actually loaded it onto the flight that it was confirmed to be in Memphis not cooking on a truck in Florida. Hope yours shows up safe!
-
Thanks, just trying to think positive. I really just want a safe healthy arrival.
