Meet the Granny Ball

Hi all,

I just wanted to take a moment this morning to share a few photos of a project that my good friend Chris Wofford (SansCera on the forum) founded. It's pretty neat in that the gene cleans up the pattern and gives the color a nice boost (especially when you add additional brightening genes to the mix).

Read the document and looked at all the pictures...I gotta be honest and say that I am just not seeing it (yet). No pattern changing, no super form. Lightening of color can just be clean genetics. The comparison shots look like average variability within a clutch to me. Have you attempted to make a super? If so what was the pairing and the outcome?

Nice animals. Congrats to all of you for proving out a dinker! It's always exciting.

I don't see a lot of difference between this and some of the fire or enchi type combos, so to me it's a distinct enhancer, although the Granny doesn't look like much more than a light clean normal. Just goes to prove that you never know which dinker will be a gene and which will be just a nice snake.

I have a snake named Granny in my collection, but she's just an old normal. Just thought it was funny to see another "Granny" snake.

Thank you for the feedback Brian. It's really appreciated. We will be attempting to produce a super next season through a few pairings and add more to the story. Regardless of what is (or isn't) produced, it's been fun dinking around with these animals and I can't wait to see what comes next.

With that said, looking at one of the comparison photos (mojave nazca granny vs. mojave nazca for instance), I feel that there is clearly a difference between the mojave nazca granny and the mojave nazca that goes beyond average variability. Granny tends to really clean the side pattern and tends to add dorsal striping in most of what we've seen; that influence is really shown in the triple. You can see the same effect in the fire vs. fire granny photo shown in the document.

For the enchi stuff, I expected there to be a conflict between how Granny tends to add a good amount of dorsal striping and how enchi goes toward banding. You can see that in the animal photos; the pattern is more "boxy" for lack of a better word with more of a dorsal stripe.

The firefly granny animals are actually really neat in person. I'm lucky enough to live down the road from Scott and saw Lee's at NARBC Arlington. The heads are super blushed and the coloring is extremely clean.

Granny is a great name! :D

you have something. It looks like the gene eliminates all or most of the alien heads. I like it.

Ive actually got a Granny from Sans Cera. Hes a fire pastel sugar granny het hypo. I actually believe hes the one you posted about. Just picked him up yesterday for $500. And have actually been talking to Chris from Sans and hes confirmed its his male that he hatched awhile ago! Super excited to start working with him.

Sadly I cant see your photos, what exactly is the granny pattern? Im just trying to see what im looking for. This guy has been locking already with the guy I bought him from and the females have been showing signs of ovulation. I may have bought the females too :rolleyes:

Not new to Ball Pythons, but new to the granny morph! Any help would be awesome identifying the pattern!:)
