Silver Streak...good price?

Someone advertised this little 2014 Silver Streak for $130 and I'm debating it...what do you think?

Male or female? If it's a female, that's a steal. If it's a male, it's still low. Where I live, silver streaks are around $200-$300. If the animal is healthy, you're set up for another snake and you like the morph, there's nothing wrong with picking that one up for that price.

Just be sure about the health bc that is important. Also, why do they want to sell it is a good question. Do they have specific information on the genetics? Do they own the parents of the snake? Try to do a full inspection of the animal as well head, mouth, eyes , nasal openings. Is the animal handleable? Be sure to look for mites under the chin and look at the cloaca for signs of illness too. :salute:And of course , is the bp feeding regularly? Weight and previous pairings?

They don't have that info :/

Do you want it for a pet, or to breed?

Without a record of the genetics, you can maybe talk them down in price, if you just want it for a pet. Without any information, the snake is, IMHO, by default, "pet quality," even if it appears to be in perfect health.

I actually prefer the normals, but that is a very pretty animal.

If still interested, you can just ask why they are selling. Sometimes people need to sell in a hurry; accidents, job changes, babies, divorces....life happens.

Why do you want to take it to the vet? Is it showing any symptoms of anything

My view on vet offices is the same as my view on hospitals. Those places are teeming with disease. Doesn't matter how conscientious how the staff is, the pathogens get everywhere.

Presumably, the office gets in snakes with mites. Does the whole place get sprayed down after? Does everyone there change their scrubs? I doubt it. Vets have their place, but IMHO, if the animal isn't actually sick, it may be better off staying at home.

You might ask if you can just send in a sample for the fecal.

I saw a video somewhere showing how to gently hold the head so as to open the mouth, to get a good look in there for mouth rot. I would probably also take a magnifying glass to check around the eyes and anal scales for mites.

Do you have a scale to weigh the snake?

For a 2014 male, he is very underweight. His spine is incredibly prominent, and he is lighter than my 8 month old snakes at work. However, he was active the entire time I held him while talking to the seller and he checked out completely healthy. No strange sounds, no stuck shed, and NO MITES :) We went to the reptile shop and bought him rat pups to start because rat crawlers seemed like a stretch. I'm going to get his weight tomorrow!

They're worth it :) he was only $110. A guy I ran into said he looks more like a Pewter...to me, he looks like a Silver Streak, but either way I got a great deal!
