Picking up my first ever BP.

I'm going to be buying a 70g Ball from royal constrictor designs. He's going to send it when I buy my enclosure set up. I've read SO much varying information. So first hand. What should I go buy? I have about 250 to spend on the enclosure. Hoping to save though.

He's going to be a Banana (100% het genetic stripe)... Whatever that means.

For A 70 Grams BP I would get a 6 quarts shoe box, aspen bedding, UTH, Thermostat, Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer, 1 Plastic flower Pot Saucer (hide), Water Dish.

Once the animal put on some size about 150/200 grams move it to a 10 gallons tank if this is the route you want to go, which you will have to upgrade as it goes.

Do not buy a 30 gallons tank for a 70 grams hatchling it will be way to big.

And remember the priority is to get the animal to feel secure and start feeding for you so while you will be excited about your new addition remember to let the animal settle for a week (no handling) and offer food at the end of that week.

Okay do. Real quick. What is a UTH? a mat heater? For under the box? Is there a specific size? And is the thermostat what controls the heating pad? Sorry for all the questions. He's Allready paid off so I'm hoping that I get a healthy enclosure for him.

Fallow what deb said and you will be fine. Uth under tank heater ....so yes a heat mat .the thermostat controls the temp of the heat mat.... do you have access to live food.....hatchlings most of the time are eating live.... as for what the het genetic strip mean...It carrys a recessive gene that is not visual and you have to breed another snake carrying the same genetic strip gene. So if you never plan on breeding then u just paid a little more for a banana..lastly dont skip the thermostat.....it can burn your snake...

Okay thank you guys so much. Idk if I'm gonna bread or not, I might. But not unless I know I can be responsible or not. Do you bread? And if so do u keep all of the babies?
One last question cause I think I'm confident about what I'm doing. What is a good UTH and thermostat? Do they come in pairs..

Before i saved for my herpstat i used dimmer-switches to control UTH (if you go the dimmer route MAKE SURE you buy a Temp-gun to accurately measure/record how hot the overall ground temp in the vivarium is. I've never had a dimmer switch fail or get to low or high on me.) . A good UTH would probably be Flexwatt heat tape IMO. For controlling humidity and temp i usually go with the Zilla 11577 (I've had great experience with it) Also i wouldn't jump into breeding so soon.

No I'm not gonna breed probably. Unless it comes a serious hobby and I'm 100% positive that I can sell and take care of babies.

Just get a 32 qt tub. No need to switch him through multiple enclosures. It causes stress

Disagree with this... I have and many other keepers have way better results with the appropriate size enclosure.......If you cant afford to spend 5$ on a tub then ur in the wrong hobby....Fallow what deb said and I will guaranty if everything is spot on you will have happy and healthy snake.

The money goes into the temp/humidity provision, regulation, and measurement; not so much the enclosure itself.

I can't see how occasionally switching out for a larger tub causes undue stress, They just need a clean environment with the the correct temp/humidity/size parameters. They prefer a small dark space, and even in the wild, they will leave their old hole in a termite mound for a fresh one.

It is hard to get away from the the idea of showey, big glass display terrariums, but the reality is, the animals seem to do better in tubs. Maybe it is the just the threads I click on, but I see far more help requests for snakes housed in glass tanks. The "Here is my set-up" photo is always a glass tank - never an opaque little racked tub with a clean paper towel/news print liner, sparkling clean water dish, and an extra shot showing the digital readings. THOSE people never seem to need help with sick snakes.

DYODD, and YMMV, but the OP might want to go that route, and get started on what does seem to be the right track.

I've decided to get a tub. Just seems to be the most logical option. I'm still kinda confused on how to the UTH and thermometer will be compatible. Will any UTH plug into any thermometer for temp control?

Go reptile basics.com the ultratherm heat pads are good....I still think confused about thermostat.... the thermostat controls the heat pad at a set temp....they have a prob that gets attached to the heat pad and you set it a 9
Say 90 it will apply what power it need to keep it there instead of running full boar...a thermometer just measure temps and dose not control them... I would go to spider robotics and order the herpstat intro if I were you. Its the best beginner leave tstat in my opinion. The uth you could by bigger than you need so that way you can use it as he grows tubs....... I would suggest you go to husbandry section and do lots of reading because it seem you have alot info you need.. the search feature works great and has endless threads of questions and answers....a last note I would get everything all setup and let it run for at least a few days before getting the snake shipped

Listen to FrostyBP and his recommendations and also listen to Deborah. The guy you are buying from, (Garrick Demeyer) ,only sells quality animals so you don't have to worry about that. Conratulations. :)

Garricks been crazy helpful through put this process. Sending me pics of the snake and how I should feed him.

I'm definetly gonna listen to them. They have been really helpful. There's just so much info about how to keep a good habitat and most people disagree. I plan on getting him a tank once he's like... A year old. And I can have time practicing the humidity and temp levels on one. Tub just seems healthiest. And cheapest. Double win.

Thats why a reliable thermostat is so important...with a proper tstat it wont melt the tubs.
