Hides in racks needed?

Does anyone put hides in their tubs that are in racks? My guys are doing so much better since I switched to a rack system but have out grown their hides. If I put two bigger hides in, it will leave them almost zero space in the tub. What does everyone else on here do? Thanks.

Yes, every Snake i have had a hide. They do better when they have one. Less feeding problems.

Only snakes that need hides have them the black reptile basic hides work grate in tubs.

Depend on the animal itself offer an hide see if it used and if not you can remove it.

In my collection only 1 Ball Python has an hide all the others do not and there is no feeding issues around here, everyone eats year round (well except gravid females of course ;))

I only use enclosed racks, and never used a hide. If the tub is the correct proportion for the size of the snake you shouldn't need one. If you are putting a hatchling in an adult sized tub you might want to include a hide.

So for those that do use hides, do you offer two hides or just one? My snakes range from 900gm to 1100gm now and are in what I think are 32qt tubs in an enclosed rack. I need to double check on the size but off the top of my head, I think that is what they are. I'm just concerned that between two hides and a water bowl there won't be any room for the snake. Time for bigger tubs maybe? I have not tried going without hides. Should I give it a try? All are great feeders at this point. Never missed a meal yet.

IMO a 1k g bp does not need a hide in a rack. You are right that with hides and a water bowl there isn't much room leftover. 32 qt is perfect for them with no hides.

Yup experiment with it man pull there hides if they feed and act the same no need for them if they stop for a few weeks put them back.... The only snakes that have hides are picky eaters and hatchlings.. And if they have a hide it only one.....FYI my picky eaters are under 300g

Do you use the hide on the hot or cold side? Thanks in advance

I wouldn't put two hides in there, just too much stuff. If you are dead set on a hide, put it on the warm end. I find that some snakes like to wedge themselves between the water bowl and the side of the tub, kind of acts like a pseudo-hide.

Honestly I really don't think you need a hide. You can always bunch up some paper towel for them to hide under. Mine usually duck under one layer of the paper towel anyways if they need to feel more secure..

One hide in the back of the tub IF I even use one at all.
I don't have any problems either way.
Also if they don't like it in the back of the tub they will move it on their own.

I don't bother with hides in my racks, if a snake seems real skitish and won't eat, I crumple up a few balls of newspaper and they often use those as hides.

Most of my BPs do not have any hides (I use enclosed racks). I do have a couple of RBI hides, which I only ever use for particularly insecure snakes or when I'm transitioning one into a bigger tub.

Here are the exceptions:

• A fickle, insecure pied that I only know is alive by the flattened aspen because I never see her (she's also the only one on substrate and not a liner... high maintenance, but I love her). She has one hide at the back of the 32qt tub and a large water bowl.
• A ~450g female who got bumped from the hatchling rack to a 32qt tub. She has two smaller hides in there for now, but will only have one when she reaches the next hide size.
• A just-over-1000g female who got bumped from a 32qt tub into a 41qt to make room for the smaller female above. (I wonder if I can convince my SO to let me get a 16qt rack....)
• Two hatchlings who refused to eat a couple times. All of the hatchlings have 8oz deli cup water dishes to help them feel snug; these two also have upside-down 8oz deli cups with doorways cut into the side that function as their hides.
