Well, after working through numerous heat lamps and humidity systems, I've finally settled on what should be my finished terrarium for quite some time. The TropiAire humidifier is hooked up to a Profile 9500 Adjustable Flow Aquarium Pump and works wonderfully, allowing me to basically set any humidity level from 45-85%. I covered the top with clear contact paper, leaving a hole in the corner for the heat lamp and some air flow. I switched to a cerramic heater for a few reasons. Firstly, it doesn't have the wide temperature fluctuations I would experience with a basking lamp. And second, it's a set it and forget it deal. The temperature is constantly perfect. It's 90deg during the day and drops to 85deg at night because of my apartment (These are warm side temps, the cool side generally follows 10 deg cooler). So this has negated any need for my previous lamp system, a basking and red lamp, both on timers. If you are thinking about getting one of these cerramic lamps (the element is expensive, about $30-40), be sure to get the 150 watt. Even though it is rated for a tank 50-100 gallons (mine's 30), it's the only one powerful enough. Enjoy!

Very nice. :D
Although i dont think half logs make them feel very secure.
-
funny thing about that.....
when i first put those half logs in, i had them pushed against the walls, so they would in fact be like any other hide (notice the sides are covered with black paper). ronin apparently got really pissed. he started trying to move the log out from the wall, and started hissing at it. i went in and moved it a few inches off, so he could get in from either side, and then he was apparently happy. guess he didn't like the feng shui.

LOL, whatever works !! :D
Have you tried putting somthing else in there just to see how he likes it ?.
I have three hides in Roxys tank and she doesnt use any of them, she would rather stay under her water bowl, Silly snake :)

The little guy is always in one of the two hides really, he seems quite comfortable. There's also that tree stump kinda thing behind his cold hide that he'll often be chillin on or under.

You guys knew it would come

Try the local big chain pet stores.

Snakes are pretty hard on real plants. They tend to get beat up fairly quickly (from what I've heard).
I use real plants, but only for my crested geckos.

Well, I lied:
I ordered an Animal Plastics T3 yesterday. Now that winter's here, it's becoming a huge waste trying to heat a glass tank with 1/16in thick glass! Talk about a bad insulator.
So here's the bill:
$145 -- AP T3 with swing doors, 2-8in. screen cut-outs
$45 -- Belly Heat
$15 -- Built in flourescent lighting
$15 -- 2 Locks
$28 -- Shipping
$00 -- Name Engraving
Total = $248
They said it would arrive in 4-5 weeks, so presumably January 6-13.
The Final setup will be the above T3 setup, plus a Spyder Robotics Herpstat (which i'm currently using and works great by the way), and the above pictured cerramic heater. The heater will be on the herpstat, the belly heat on a dimmer (a must), and the flourescent light will be on a 12hr on/off timer. And I won't be needing the humidifier i'm currently using with my new setup.

I was wondering where you got your humidifier, as I'm having some trouble with humidity.

Live feed or dead feed!
Good ol Petco (those pet brutalizin bastards). It's just a TropicAire humidifer (by a company called imagine) hooked up to any standard aquarium air pump (I happen to be using a Profile 9500). I really don't use it very often, only during shed periods. My humidity chills around 55% on its own, and i'll bump it up to about 80% during sheds.

Epilover, you'll love your T3 when it arrives. Here's mine with sliding acrylic and belly heat w/locking front:

I have a question about how you set up your humidifier. I am having a problem with humidity. I see that you are using a air pump but how it actually getting the mist in the tank, i can't really tell from the pic how you the hoses working. Did you run a tube from the air pump into the humidifier and then a tube from the humidifier running into the cage? Im sorry but this looks like a really good idea which gives you complete control over the humidity, which i definitly don't have right now. I have to result to misting all the time, and if the cage stays too wet she will wind up with scale rot.

Why not just give her a humid hide?? That is all my snake has had since she's been with me and her first shed was perfect and in one piece. There are many solutions to keeping humidity in the cage, but there is a difference between "humid" and "wet". A constantly wet, warm environment is a wonderful breeding ground for bacteria. Which is probably why your snake has scale rot. From being too wet.
