First steps in a double recessive project.
hey everyone,
so about a week ago my parents came to visit me and it was great then my youngest sister wanted to see my snakes and ofcourse I showed them, my mom then started asking if I was close in to breeding some and if so wich ones. I told her and then I came to this double recessive I wanted to go for. I told her I had to hatch double het's first then grow them up and then pair them together and that those eggs would have a 1 in 16 chance of having the double visual in them. she asked me how many eggs do they lay? I answered well the average is about 6 but that it can range anywhere from 1 to 10-12 or so.
That's when my mom and dad both said they where proud as they know patience isn't my strongest virtue haha!! It felt great!
Anyways to the pairing now,
Last night (Sunday) at around 01.00 AM European time I placed my male Clown in with my female Orange Ghost and when I woke up this morning around 8 AM I saw this

for some reason I didn't feel confident enough to consider this a lock but it gave me enough to believe the male was interested.
about 4 hours later I checked on them and saw this :D

LOCK!
I am very excited at this moment even though I try to keep myself from getting to excited as I know this doesn't mean she will lay eggs but at least it is a start!
thanks for looking,
Andrew

Clown/Hypo?
WelL I also got very excited when my Calico Super Pastel locked with my Lesser Pastel and I even got excited at their 10th lock haha I guess all locks are exciting!
yep Hypo/Clown a.k.a Candied Clown, hopefully I'll get a nice male to female ratio to hold back a 1.3 group double het. Candied Clown group.
as I looked through the tub they where on the right side of the tub so I thought they where done and I wanted to put the male in his own tub so I opened the tub to see this

he is acting like a real stud!!
it's the first pairing for both of them so I am really happy he understands what he needs to do haha
Re: First steps in a double recessive project.
Best of luck! Long projects are were it is at!
Re: First steps in a double recessive project.
Hoping you get more females than males more eggs more chances 👍

Nice work on the pairings Arb. That clown project looks good. I just hatched a clutch of double hets this morning. Keep up the great work.

Thank you, I think so too and what's also very nice is the fact I haven't seen any Candied Clowns or dh Candied Clowns being offered at shows here in the Netherlands where also bigger breeders from other European countries come.

Yeah indeed, I hope to be able to at least hold back 1.2 but preferably 1.3

Well the first time they saw/knew I had a snake they only learned after they came to visit the same like they always did, but then at 1 point I said "hey mam, I got a new cool pet" and I got my Orange Ghost girl out her tub (she was my first ball python) and the first reaction I got from my mom was "Why am I not surprised you have a snake?" then I saw some poop in the tub and wanted to take it out so I just pressed the snake in my moms arms and said "here, hold her for a minute" and that is really how she came to enjoy her and all other snakes I got after.
I guess I am just very lucky with a mom like that

Yes you are,, If I did that mine would never come to my house again, and she'd probably hit me in the arm every time she seen me after that...:(
