Say hello to my li'l friend
He's a special little guy and we've become such good friends already, I've named him Darth... Darth gator. And we're going to have all kinds of magical adventures together.

    Awesome! Cute little guy.

What's the plan for when he gets bigger? (I just have no idea how one houses a full grown gator, so I'm curious)

Great looking animal! Fantastic set up too. Is he a caiman? Anyway, I know you did the research. :gj:

Very cool! He seems to be as calm as a puppy. Too bad crocodilians can't be tamed (at least not to my knowledge).

Now to drop the other shoe..... I'm kind of teasing you all, he's only going to be my guest for a month or two and not a part of my permanent collection. I picked him up from Minneapolis Animal Control last Saturday, I've been a volunteer with the Minnesota Herp Society Adoption Committee for many years now and we'll be trying to place this little guy in a suitable home. Though I'd love to keep him myself, I don't have either the time or the resources for an adult alligator. But at least I'll get to keep him for a while.

Well, I'm glad to hear he is in a good foster situation. I can't imagine anyone trying to deal with a full grown adult if that person wasn't living in at least a sub-tropical climate where the animal could be kept outdoors.

Minneapolis?? WHAT was the original owner thinking?

For those who like the gators and crocs, Brian Barczyk (spell??) has a good Snakebytes Youtube where he visits a guy with an outdoor sanctuary. Gaitors and crocs from the Nile, and Cuba...one albino gator and two albino babies...etc. Possibly his best show. Sorry, if interested, you'll just have to click around to find it; can't remember specifics - I watch those things by the dozen.

Actually I know several people here in Minnesota who have successfully kept (and are still keeping) adult gators over several decades. I'm not opposed to the private ownership of alligators as long as the person knows exactly what they're getting into.

    OK, well who knew?
I have no opposition to private ownership either, just never imagined it was even remotely feasible in a northern climate.

I lived in MPLS for three years in my early twenties. Burrr.
