    Lizzy on the Monkey Bars
Last night was play day for Lizzy, my Coastal Carpet Python. She's at least 7 ft and difficult to photograph with an iPad or cellphone because she is in CONSTANT motion.

I did manage a few shots that exhibits her markings well. She is a Sweetheart and would eat the tongs if I left them in her tank. :)

She is a ton of fun, I highly recommend a Carpet, but caution it is not a snake to sit on the couch and watch TV with.

    Beautiful snake.

Your taste in music isn't bad either. "And All That Could Have Been" is my favorite NIN album. The rawness of the music being performed live blows away the sterility of the studio mixes that are just track laid over track laid over track.

I have to confess that this was my daughter's room and now a guest room. However, I've never been one of those Dads that yelled at their kid to turn the music down or ridicule their music. In fact I've always enjoyed her taste in music. I trust her judgement quite often. :)

    That's great to hear!

Have you narrowed it down to which type? Jungle, IJ, Diamond, Coastal, etc?

    Picked a breeder?

Are you going for a hatchling, juvie, or just wait and see?

    Cool

I've had my heart set on a Jungle or Zebra for a while now but I've seen seeing some gorgeous Coastals lately (yours included). I really like Nick Mutton's stock at Inland Reptile. I usually raise my snakes from hatchlings but I'm open to a juvie as well since I'll have a better idea on how it might 'color up'. You know I'll be sharing pics once the deal is done. :)

    I hear ya.

I was going to go Jungle, nothing to get in the way. Then I saw My Girl, and it was just meant to be.

Best of luck in your hunt! :)

May I ask how old is she? I got my first coastal a couple months ago. March 29 to be exact.. She was quite small.. She is a great eater. Putting on good size. She definitely has more energy than my ball pythons. Lol..she bit me every chance she had.. Now all she does is mock strike when I get her out the cage..so definitely calmed down alot faster than I expected. I've heard people say theirs calmed down after there first year of owning them..so I'm pretty thankful.. Also picked her up at a reptile expo for 50 bucks.. Can't beat that deal at all..

OK Reinz, I think I'm going to put the blame for this one directly on you ;). I was minding my own business waiting for the 2015 jungle clutch to hatch. Then you had to go and show off your BEAUTIFUL coastal Lizzy. For every action there's a reaction and now I've gone and purchased this caramel coastal. He's a 2014 hatchling produced by Nick Mutton at Inland reptile. Nick is a great guy to deal with and his animals are stunning. I'd recommend him to anyone interested in Morelia. He literally wrote the book on Carpet Pythons. My coastal will ship in about 6 weeks when my jungle is ready. Thanks again Reinz :P!

I know there are other good breeders out there but I think Nick Mutton is right at the top of the list. Like I said, he wrote the book on Carpet Pythons. He really is an ocean of information. All of his carpets come with extensive lineage information and are of the highest quality. I know he's got a few 2014's left and some 2015's on the way. I'm waiting for a 2015 jungle or zebra. I'd HIGHLY recommend him.

I got mine as an adult and she is mild as can be. I understand these guys are nippy when young like many constrictors, but need patience and handling.

As far as handling, they are fun, fun, fun! But don't take your eyes off of them. They move constant and with purpose. They have more reach than you think, and mine is always reaching! :)

Those colors will only get brighter and better too. I can't wait to see pics of your new boy.

You won't regret it Josh, they're like a moderately amped up Boa. Nick Mutton is top shelf. There is a guy in my neck of the woods that well known out here and has been for many years, Mike Pennel (sp)". I'm afraid to go check him out. I know I'll end up with more!

ZA- I just got off the phone with phone with my breeder. He said as far as being nippy when young both breeds are similar in his experience. He feels that they both mellow out great as they age.

I forgot to remind you that you are looking at different ends of the spectrum size wise as far as Carpets go.
In case that makes any difference.

Average adult lengths for Coastals run around 7-9 ft. And for IJs the average is about 5-6 ft.

This might impact your decision as well.

Great thread. All carpets are essentially the same with some differences. I highly suggest reading the book. "The Complete Carpet Python" written by Nick Mutton and Justin Julander. Justin also breeds carpets. His site is Australian Addiction. I think the carpet group is one of the if not THE best display snakes out there.

You have got to get a stimsons they can be like as tamed as a cute puppy and they are prfect feeders aswell so i definitely reccomend one people say they are starter snakes which is true but they can have cool patterns and colours and be super tame

I want a pretty new snake too :(. If you guys keep it up I'm going to have my coastal shipped to me earlier than planned. I wanted him to ship in another month or so with my jungle hatchling but I may have to give in and pay for shipping twice. $60 or 6 more weeks of painfully waiting?

    That's a tough wait Zig. :(

Look at it this way; for $10 bucks a week, or $1.50 a day you can be enjoying that beautiful little creature :snake: ! :D

I really want to bring the bew guy home now Reinz but I've got 2 AP T-8 enclosures arriving in 3 weeks. Once I move my bull snakes into those I'll probably have the coastal shipped. I'll have an empty tub and a 40g tank available to put him in until his T-10 arrives in another 7 weeks. I ordered a divider for the T-10 so both carpets can stay in there for a while. Waiting is the hard part!

OO-k, I had thought from other threads that you already had your enclosures in house.

I was thinking from another thread that you are from Australia, am I correct?

If so, our two countries are similar in size.

I agree in a perfect world, I would rather pick my snake up myself. But I would probably only be willing to drive 3-4 hrs at most.

And here in the U.S. Breeders are scattered all over. Not to mention owners of secondhand snakes.

So next day shipping is pretty much a must unless you buy local or at a show.

Are the breeders in your country more concentrated to a dedicated area or Territory? I assume East and West are totally separate due to the laws.
