How not to overfeed?

I have been a BP owner for just a few weeks and I have been feeding my 9 month old boy fuzzies as suggested by the breeder. According to the record provided by the breeder he has been on fuzzies since the first week of June. After I feed him, he is still active in his cage. I want to feed him two but I wonder if I will be overfeeding him if I do so.

How do I know whether I am overfeeding (or underfeeding) him? Do I go by weight? I just ordered a scale on Amazon.

Basically you feed by the size of it's girth. If your snake is growing in a healthy way, there is no reason to feed him more then you have too.

How much does he weigh? I kinda base it off weight.

I apologize for this silly question but How will I know if he is growing at the correct rate besides seeing him appear skinny and malnourished?

If you are talking by percentage of body weight, that is usually thrown out after they are no longer hatchlings.

@OP I feed a rat approximately a little smaller than her widest point. Once a week since she is over 300 grams. Before that I did every 4 days.

So I finally got the scale that I ordered from Amazon and it appears that he is grossly underweight for his age. He is 9 and a half months old and weighs only 270g.

I have decided to upgrade to rat pups (I am not sure if he will take them) and increase the frequency to every 4 days.

I would welcome any advice. Thanks.

Mouse pinkies for a nine month old BP are WAY too small; this is why your snake is underweight. It's emaciated.

I feed my snakes based on body weight, and feed a prey item based off of 13% of their body weight. At 270 grams, your snake should be eating a rat between 30-35 grams, which is around a weanling rat. You could feed one of those every week. Try rubbing the rat with a mouse before offering it, that's how I switched my snake over and it was super easy.

I didn't feed him pinkies. I was feeding him rat fuzzies. According to the feeding record provided by the breeder he had been on rat fuzzies since June 2nd. And he had been eating every Wednesday. I brought him home the 12th. Last week I didn't have fuzzies so I gave him an adult mouse. He has been on F/T.

I feed my BP multiple fuzzies. The pet store in town apparently never has pups? I fed him 3 fuzzies on Friday. Should I just ask for smalls or pups? My BP came in at 245g on friday.

a BP hatchling can eat pups. At 300g or so you can switch to weaned no problem.
