I want to make a rack for my cresty,bp,future bci and possible king snake(for my bro). And I want to have around 7 or 8 cages. This is what i was thinking something like this http://tinypic.com/nyo91
What supplies should i get?The ones with the numbers are tanks that would be used for something else. The numbers are the amount of gallons.

check this out http://arbreptiles.com/cages/iris_rack/iris_rack.shtml i built the cage it cost about 250 to build but half of that is the cd-110 tubs. you can modify it to fit whatever tub you want though. also with that disign you have it is going to be difficult to build and heat properly.

yea, like display cages but i wanted to build a really big cage, and then make smaller tanks using boards.

well if you want to build it just make a blueprint of what all you want and build it up. It will take some time if you dont know what you are doing but would be more cost effective. You could always pay someone to build it or buy prefabbed ones but both way would cost alot more.

I am going to be building a stack of cages to fit 4 adult burm's in. each cage is going to be 8 feet long around 2-3 feet high and 4 feet wide. biggest problem i am going to run into is heating them and still being able to stack 4 of them on top of each other. I might just have to make 2 differnt stacks each 2 high instead of one that is 4 high. i am not sure yet just making plans for when the burms grow up.

i go the heat tape from beanfarm.com for 3.75 a foot along with the metal connectors for .60 a peice. you would have to look around for a thermostat i would recommend either the reptitemp 500r or the Alife Reptile Electronic Temperature Controller. i have both and they are both good. when you get one make sure it has a probe because the reptitemp 500 doesnt and they are a pain to get set.

and what i mean by blueprints are exact measurements that you would be able to look at and build from. that is just a drawing that represents what you want where.

so,i would hook up the heat tape to the thermo? How do i do that?

This is just a crude drawing for now,but i will make blueprints when i know what i am gonna do.

basically once you get the flexiwatt wired up you would plug that into the thermostat and then the thermostat plugs into the wall. the thermostat would turn the heat tape on and off with the temp in gets from the probe inside the cage.

i can control the temps with a thermostat right?

this will show you how to wire up the heat tape same as how to build a rack http://www.arbreptiles.com/cages/flexwire.shtml

so,what should the demensions be for a bp?BCI?Crested Gecko?

i really dont have an anser for the gecko's but the bp and bci are basically the same. i have my bp's in the iris cb-110's and they are 19 7/8" X 39" X 6 1/4" high and have plenty of room.

they made bigger tubs but you would have build around the tub. they are bigger than they look i had a 2000 gram female and a 1300 gram male in one for breeding and they still had plenty of room to move around.

    how much would everything cost?
  • 11-25-2004, 09:07 PM

the cb-110 tubs cost me 16 a piece (i meet the guy at a show and ended up getting another bp so i wouldnt have to pay shipping). all the building materials were about 120 and the thermostat was 20 and the heat tape, extension cord(walmart) and connectors were 45. so about 300 to build.

If you're going to make display cages as opposed to steralite/rubbermaid housing, that's going to cost you a lot more, and take a lot more planning and effort.

Min Size recommended for an adult crested gecko is 24" h by 18" w by 18" long (in all the books I've seen). If you're going to put the crestie in a rubbermaid, you're going to want the lid on the rubbermaid. You really don't want to be pulling out a flush top (like the way the steralite ball python racks are designed).

Btw bpkid, I don't recommend you do this without the help of an adult. It's going to be easier to do with another pair of hands anyway.

I'd advise you build it in sections that can be moved as well. If you build it as one giantic piece of furniture, it's going to be near impossible to move in the future.

Make sure you get a really good drawing of diminsions and plans built up before you start, it will save you money and time in the long run. Also, this is going to be a pretty expensive project in the long run for all of those cages. I'd recommmend you try building one of the cages first, and then go on from there.

i can buy the tubs, the ones you talked about, and i will use heat tape or heatpads.there are outlets to plug the pads in.

http://tinypic.com/vgzzp What about this?I don't know the demensions of a 20 or 29 gallon so i did this.I'll just build the 6x2x3 first, then go from there.
