Heat lamp and storms

I remember hearing somewhere that a power surge can mess up the heat lamp bulb (red bulb).
It's currently storming, and my question is, do I need to turn the lamp off until the storm passes? Or is this just a myth?

I have just about everything plugged into an outlet on a surge protector. The will help.

I never have and haven't run into any problems. An hour or two turned off probably won't hurt the snake though if you don't feel safe leaving it on.

It's not necessarily that I don't feel safe, I just want to make sure I don't end up having to buy a new bulb because of a stupid thunderstorm, haha.

Nah you should be good. Get a basic power strip.

I just really shouldn't read things on the internet(except for on here, of course!)

This Spring and Summer so far has yielded more thunderstorms than the last 5 years combined for my area.

I have 3 heat bulbs going 24/7 with never an incident. However they are all plugged into surge protectors.

I'm in East TX.

I was just up all night with my scaredy cat dogs due to major thunderstorms. According to my phone alerts, more than 6 lightning strikes occurred anywhere from 0-3 miles from my house.

The heat lamps are fine. The dogs, not so good.

Yeah Texas is taking a beating. I'm in CO and we have had crazy storms too.

I'm in the DFW area and we had some storms with crazy rain, but I think most of the really nasty stuff missed us this year!

My collies are the same way. Beautiful merle you have!
