Animal Plastics Economy rack
They have a interesting model that hold both 16 quart and 32 quart tubs. I keep my bedroom at around 70 degrees, is the flex watt tape going to do a good enough job? Should I get a more enclosed rack?

I think those temperatures are fine for Brazilian rainbow boa but for the ball pythons I'm not sure

I'm leaning towards getting a 32 quart rack for now and then later on get some CB 75 tubs

Re: Animal Plastics Economy rack
This is being kept in my bedroom which I keep between 69 and 70 degrees during the summer and about 72 degrees in the winter. I'm starting to think this rack is going to be marginal for temps. If I was convinced it would work I would pull the trigger right now.
Anyone?

^ This. I will be building my third AP EP rack this weekend (the new one is a hatchling rack they did special for me). They're great quality racks, but I wouldn't use them if I weren't running an oil-filled radiator in the room to keep ambient temps from falling below the mid-70s.

I called animal plastics and they said the heat tape will heat the floor of the tub about twenty degrees warmer. My room doesn't get any cooler than 70 degrees so what would the ambient temp inside the rack be? I keep the ambient temp of my snakes enclosure around 80 degrees with the floor of the warm spot at around 90 degrees.
If the ambient temp of the tub is 75 degrees with a warm spot on the floor being 90 degrees is this ok for the snake? The heat tape has to be able to warm the ambient temp somewhat.

Re: Animal Plastics Economy rack
Ambient temp on the cool side will be whatever the ambient temp in your room is (more or less)
For example when I keep my snake room at 75 ambient, temps in the tubs are 75/76 on the cool side.

I went to Home Depot and it looks like I can build a five stack out of melamine for about 75 dollars including heat. Tomorrow I'm setting up the saws and I'm going to work. What kind of spacing should I leave at the top of the tub?

My first two racks are malimineand they are only two years old and its starting to bubble up. Just made a hatching rack last week http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06...ec0d2d8894.jpg just a suggestion to save you the trouble I have went through and $$ in the long run.

There are no Menards on Long Island. I wouldn't know where to look for polyethylene sheeting.
