She just hung out like this for a couple of minutes...what on earth??
I'm thinking maybe se smelled the shrimp I just cooked and was attracted to it?
Please tell me that's what she was doing because otherwise, she's just weird...:rolleyes:

just a ball python doing ball python things

I had to relocate my girl's enclosure to the kitchen for a couple of weeks and I did notice that she had a tendency to poke her head out and investigate while I was in there cooking. I doubt the smells register as "food", just something interesting. Or maybe she just wanted to watch the activity.

Looks like normal ball python activity, they can be very inquisitive at times, usually when I have mine out they sit like this, I assume it's to try and get a better view of their surroundings :)

Oh how cute! I love it when my guy does this kind of thing. It definitely seems to be normal ball python curiosity. They really can be quite inquisitive at times. Mine has made a habit of resting almost like this but most of the time it will just be his little nose and heat pits peeking over that cross beam on the tank. I have the same style of tank you do and he seems to love resting there. The funny thing is I only see him do this about 20 minutes after I put him back after handling. He will slither into his hide, make a few circles inside of it and come right back out and rest his nose against the front of the tank, almost like he is begging to come out. I think I may have contributed to this by teaching him that the door opens. A while back I noticed him at the front of the tank and opened his door for him to come out on his own. He has been lurking at the door after handling ever since. :P You really gotta love these guys, such delightful personalities. ^_^

She's looking for an escape route. My ball python would do this every day at around dusk. He'd come out, nose around the cage for about 20 minutes, try the top, and then back o the hide he went.

PERISCOPE UP! lol, caught mine doing this a few days ago, except he would look at the thermometer/hydrometer combination thing from the other side of the tank like "This thing is not food, what is this thing, i must look at this thing. I ain't scare. I ain't scare of no things."

I've seen her do that as well, but this was different. She was sitting still in that position, watching me. I'd just put her back after having her out for awhile, it was almost like she wanted to come back out. So cute.

Mine did this for a total of almost 30 minutes last night and he was active for over 2 hours!

They're so silly.
I knew they had personality, but I didn't know how goofy they can be. I'm definitely hooked!

They really can be hilarious. I can't believe the people who claim snakes have no personality, it is so clear that they do. My little guy seems to get jealous when he is out for a visit and I am distracted by something (usually snake forums :P). He will extend his body all the way from my lap, straight up to my face until I notice him. He will move a couple inches at a time, stop and flick his tongue. If I don't look down or acknowledge him he will go a bit father and flick his tongue again. He regularly does this until he is resting his chin on my face. Usually then I will give him a bunch of kisses and he will slowly back away and look at me, then continue exploring. But this is like a regular behavior with him. He even snuck up on me once doing this and stopped with his chin right under my nose. I only realized he was there when he flicked his tongue and it went in my nostril. Startled the living daylights out of me lol.

He also seems to "beg" to come back out. After I put him back he will just rest his chin on the branch or the floor at the front of the tank and wait until I come back in to go to bed. Then he curls up in his hide shortly after I turn the light out. He does lots of things that non-snake people wouldn't believe a snake would ever do. I figure he is just a really special little guy, but I hear ya and I am definitely hooked too. :)

Thats adorable!
I've always loved snakes, but you don't realize how big their personalities are until you have one.
I like to think that they love their humans just as much as a dog or cat does...they just show it in a different way!

As much as I would absolutely love to believe that my little one loves me, I just can't scientifically support it. What I do know is that he has developed the ability to trust and interact peacefully with me, despite the fact that he has every reason to perceive me as a large and dangerous predator. If he were completely terrified of me I would understand. Our interaction involves a ton of risk on his part, yet he has chosen to allow me that opportunity. I absolutely feel like there is more to him than being just another snake, so I can only hope that he somehow perceives that there is more to me than being just a big scary human. Whether or not he loves me, he does seem to trust that I am safe and I am beyond honored that he has given me even that. :)
