Ball python drool
I already have the appointment for 9:30 tomorrow at a reptile vet. I picked up my desert ball today and got drooled on. Last time something similar happened was in 98' with a Peruvian red tail. Is was diagnosed as mouth rot. Any insight, he took a really big drink around 6:30 this morning. Damn, he's one of my favorites. I was looking in his mouth no puss or other noticeable in jury's. Skip you out there? No hissing or wheezing when he breathes.

Hmmm, without hissing, wheezing or snot coming out its hard to definitively say its an RI. Hopefully just had some water in his mouth before you picked it up?

I just posted a picture of his set up in my gallery. Cool 78/80 under the light 86/88 ambient is 83/85. He's 1year 8months old. He always eats, he weights 895 grams. A while back he might of stuck the feeding tweezers. Like two months ago. I also have a cover that blocks the front of his cage, I took it down for the picture.

it never hurts to hope, but I doubt it. I know my Boas better then balls though.

How long did he drink before you picked him up? I had one that got shipped to me. I was at work and my wife set her up. When I got home I picked her up and she spewed on me. I was freaking out. What did I just buy something is wrong with her. I put her back and she took a drink of water. I picked her up again and again she spewed water out. I was like ok cool she is just drinking. That freak out was short lived. :)

Wow I'm like running my own thread here, just got off the phone with the breeder. He thinks it possibly nothing to sweat. Still going to the vet regardless. Damn it!!!!
-
A vet's opinion is always going to be the best, but it sounds like you may not have a real problem here. I've picked up some of my snakes before and had them basically spit water all over me because I didn't know they'd just been taking a drink.
If it is a problem at least you're catching it so early that it probably won't develop into anything.

I think you are going to be fine. In my experience seeing sick snakes in clinic, the fluid that comes out of an infected animal is usually thick and viscous, almost like snot when you have a cold. Its almost always pretty obvious when a snake has an RI or mouth rot. Most sick snakes will look as if they are blowing bubbles out of their mouth. I once had a BP with a major RI and you could hear the poor snake cough from downstairs and down the hall.
Sounds like this isn't the case for you.
-
If it were me I would not visit a vet without any other signs of an issue.
All my Bloods and my Ball have released water from their mouth on me at some point. Just because your wife saw it drink at whatever time does not mean you didn't just miss it drinking again. It sounds like it was just water. My big Blood drinks a ton of water and I never mess with her if I just saw her drink because she can really make a mess.
When I got my GTP he had the start of an RI and he didn't have any fluid readily falling from his mouth. He had mucus but it was in no way close to the feel and consistency of water.

Re: Ball python drool
Thank you guys for the advice, the breeder expressed the same views. I'll keep you guys updated, in all sincerity thanks for your advise/help. I'll cancel and if nessecary reschedule next week. Thank you again.

I just got through checking him again. My wife and I literally had his mouth to are ears, couldn't even hear him breathe. Double, triple checked his mouth. Everything looked good to me so far (fingers crossed). No drool of any sort. Going to feed him tonight. I want to thank Josh, Kmg, Dvirginia and Ron. And yes I'll have him to the vet in a heart beat if nessecary. And also thank Garrick DeMeyer for answering my phone call so fast.

Glad that it seems to be nothing after all! :)
I've had my BP's faces up to my ear so many times, listening... Haha. Just being paranoid, I'm sure. None of my snakes have ever been sick.

LOL this information would have saved you a few days of speculation. You have little to worry about when buying from a premier breeder like Garrick. Of course anything can happen but he would have been on top of it right away if it did.

I've had the pleasure of dealing with him multiple times. Just about every ball python I ever owned came from him. I think that really says it all about how I feel about him. Great guy. I have trouble posting pictures from my I pad. If you go to my gallery, every ball is from Garrick.

I could not agree more. I've had the snake I was concerned about for a year plus. He answered first call. Was more then happy to address my concerns. And is always willing to help or guide you in anyway possible. Always a pleasure to talk too. Definitely a great individual.

Re: Ball python drool
How's you Ball Python doing, that drooled on you? My male Piebald just did that to me. None of my other snakes have ever done this so, I started checking for precedents. He's in a rack setup at 89° belly heat and app 50% humidity. Never heard any coughing or wheezing and is very active. Gets fed tomorrow, although he might not go for it, as he's maintained weight from last feeding.
