blood pythons

im looking at purchasing a blood pyhton, are their enclosures similar to bps where they can do well in a plastic tub? or should i buy/make some other type of enclosure

People do keep them in tubs, but they get much larger than a ball so you have to plan for that, mine are in four foot pvc cages.

You need to get around an adult Blood. My big girl is over 5.5 ft and around 30 lbs. She is a handful. They are very thick and very powerful. Seek out some older adults so you can see what you will be getting in to. I don't say any of this to discourage you. I just want you to be informed. My big girl is a puppy in your lap but when she and I don't agree on what she needs to do she is nothing like my little weak ball who doesn't ever give me any issues. Bloods have more personality it seems and are very vocal with their huffing and puffing mixed with plenty of hissing.

I also keep my big girl in a 4ft x 2ft x 15 inch pvc cages. My younger three are still in a rack system but one day they will need to upgrade.

yeah i own 4 balls and a sav monitor and im not going to buy until i know i everything i need to, ive heard of their tough personalities. when you say pvc cage did you build it yourself? do you have a site i could reference for this type of enclosure?

They could be kept only in the larger commercially available rack systems. I think 4x2 floor space would be minimum required for an adult. As KMG noted these can be sizable snakes. I wouldn't keep them in a rack simply due to the tub height. I keep my adults in the same size pvc cage as KMG. And yes, there's a lot of huffing and puffing. I've found it to be mostly bluff, but if they're wagging their tail along with it, I've found they are not bluffing.

I like Animal Plastics cages

The place I bought my cages from took almost a full year to get me the three cages I ordered. While I like them I think Animal Plastics or some of the other favorite builders here would be a better choice for you.

late reply, but what type of doors do you have on yours? the swing doors? sliding glass or acrylic?

I have swing open acrylic doors on my Blood cage. I have sliding glass doors on my GTP cage. I prefer the operation of the swing open but I prefer the look of the glass. Both work fine. I think for a large cage like mine I would keep what I have.

I prefer sliding doors, I've found there's less chance of a hungry snake lunging out the door at feeding time.

This is very true and has saved me from my GTP several times. My Bloods don't usually come at me like my GTP does, he will chase you down. My Bloods let me do the work and bring the food to them.
