Texas Storms
Ugh!!! I am so OVER these storms. I'm in south Dallas county, but it seems like at least half the state is flooded.... And the tornadoes: I've lost count of them all. About 50 minutes ago, while trying to fall asleep, I heard suspicious winds. So I checked it out. Yup, rotation overhead!! Less than ten minutes later, a tornado warning was issued. Aaaaaand, now I can't sleep....
-
I had to dig a trench through my back yard because it was flooding, it had taken all it could. I had to also pump four inches of water out of my koi pond from one afternoon and its not a small pond. It has really been coming down.
-
Woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of my phone freaking out due to emergency alerts (which I cannot opt out of -.-) and the tornado siren going off down the road. After that quieted down, it was the thunder and lightning keeping me up. This whole time my husband was sleeping like a baby, of course (he's also slept through every earthquake out here that's happened at night).
Been a weird year here for weather and natural disasters, hasn't it?

Its in your settings unless there are other warnings you want to receive.
I was up most of the night with two chicken-bulls shaking at every crack of thunder.

I've already turned them all off in settings so at least it doesn't give me every warning across the metroplex, but I can't turn off alerts for my immediate area or amber alerts. I'm trying to mess with the weather app settings now (it's a galaxy s5, btw).
My dogs defense mechanism to the thunder is to sit on my head. I guess that's where he feels safest, but a 40 pound furball attempting to sit on you isn't my favorite way to wake up.
-
I have the S5 too. I use The Weather Channel app. Under setting you can select your alerts. I had the same issue waking me up but it was my S5, Gear S, and my and my wife's Nokia 980 all going off with alerts. It was crazy. I turned them off on the Nokia, reduced them on the S5, and muted my Gear S. Im a heavy sleeper too and actually slept through a tornado once but all the device going off was enough to wake me up.

Yup, I've got an 80 and 60 pounder on top of me panting and drooling heavyily for 6-10 hrs at a time. I'm going many days with little to zero sleep. This has been going on average every 3 out of 5 days for the past 2 months or more out here in East Texas. :taz:

Down here in louisiana flooding is just part of life! I used to think i would do anything to get out of this humid hell...but after working up north I would not change louisiana for anything, i guess i am just southern born and breed but i love everything from the humidity to the alligators...i mean were else can you walk down the road and be at multiple huge waterways to fish or just sightsee.
-
If I ever left Texas, which I don't see happening, Louisiana sure would be at the top of the list! Great country and great folks! :)
-
If you love wildlife...esp. reptiles louisiana has it all!!! No polar bears tho....

Ha ha!:), oh yes, I know! That's why it's called the "Sportsman's Paradise"!
-
Been the same up here in KS too. I am pretty much wearing flipflops anytime I go out to avoid having flooded shoes. And got alerts set so the pets and I can go hide in case of tornado...

Re: Texas Storms
I put on a tv show earlier. After the beginning credits, it opened with pouring rain and thunder. I almost cursed the tv.
-
We actually had an ok day after the early showers stopped. I was even able to go get my Koi for my pond today. They are in their new home and as for right now we are clear of rain.
-
I used to live in Missouri, and the storms and tornadoes were terrifying. Take care, everyone dealing with this horrible weather.

Re: Texas Storms
Ugh. We have a leak in the roof......

Re: Texas Storms
I went up to the cabin in Kerrville this weekend, and luckily it had a covered deck because it poured minus a 2 or 3 hour window on sunday.

Re: Texas Storms
Aaaaand, I think it's supposed to rain more tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Hmmmm, a valid consideration at this point!

These storms are coming from this darned El Niņo if you don't already know. And it's supposed to get worse.
There was a tornado warning in my area just a few days ago. I, being as phobic as I am of severe weather, rounded up all my pets - including my snakes which I stuffed into a bag - and hid in a closet. While we weren't hit by anything, I ended up cleaning snake pee out of my closet. Oh the joy.
Several houses in my neighborhood also got struck my lightning.
Look on the bright side though - frogs are breeding like crazy! They're everywhere and tadpoles are always a joy to find at local ponds and creeks. :)

Re: Texas Storms
Randomly off topic. I'm moving to Texas soon from Michigan, I hate rain but at least I now know i'll be in good company. DFW area most likely, that's where my bf lives. stay safe guys!
-
Its about to come down!!!
I ride my motorcycle to work and this will let me try some new rain pants I got. My Frogg Toggs kept leaving me with a soggy crotch...not fun. If it gets bad enough I have a bass boat I can take.

This is WAY out of character for our area. Yes, we get spring storms, but not this many this often....

My neighborhood has been fine as has the area around me. Other than my backyard but my trenches are working like a champ and the water has been draining well.
We do have some problem areas in Houston and have had some underpass flood. The most I have driven in lately was water just over the curb.
Just as I was typing this it started coming down HARD!!!! The dog is not going to enjoy going outside before bed.

A warm Pre-welcome to Texas! Warning though, DFW is a madhouse traffic wise. Hope you are a patient driver. Even though I grew up there and love it, I had to leave it for a slower pace.
Best to You :)

I took her out and right as she was in the middle of her big business we had a lightning strike pretty close with some really loud thunder. She stopped right and the middle and ran to me under the car port. It was an act of congress to get her to go back at there and finish up. She is a baby.
My Koi pond is up at least 5 inches from the time it started raining. I hope it slacks up so I don't have to go out there right now and turn on my pump out so I don't loose any fish.
The trench I dug a few days ago is flooded over the sides and is a river going through my backyard to the street.

This is such a true story. I'm from Tomball and my dad called today and yeah, he's been having issues getting around some because of the bridges under water. Ahhh, this makes me a terrible person, but when folks have built in the flood plain it amuses me when they freak out when *shocker* the flood plain floods!

Driving over the trinity is a trip. Seems like a lot more would be under water if not for those embankments, so at least there's that. I am strangely happy to live in a second floor apartment these days.

It came back on after a couple hours. Snakes are fine.

Another wall of thunderstorms about to slam into us here in the San Antonio/Austin area. Let the anxiety commence!

You're not alone! I've always been uneasy during storms...
-
I think y'all are getting more inches than us up here in KS, but seriously, it has rained like every day for the last 2 weeks...

Re: Texas Storms
My husband texted me at 6am saying that he was stuck on the highway due to flooding up the road. Been there for two hours now... NB Loop 12 south of I-30, for locals...

He managed to get off the highway and is headed home.

Re: Texas Storms
I think I can speak for most of us Texans by saying that the rain was much needed and great, but now we are tired of launching our boats out of our driveways to get to work.
