I can't believe the beauty of these Snow Boas. I had to give a link for you guys to see just what I am talking about.
I could not even imagine the price one of these guys would command; albinos alone are in the thousands!

Its funny albino, snow boa's do nothing for my for some reason I love albino BPs, I think its the Deep red tail that attracts me to Boa's

I acutally don't care for most of the BCI morphs..I just don't think a super salmon or an albino is that neat looking..but I really like the snow morph.

I prefer the normal boa's but i mean c'mom, that snake is awesome, it would look even cooler if it had dark blue eyes though.

If it had it's red tail still, I'd love it. But just all white like that, it's okay, but nothing too special in the sense that I'd dish out loads of money for one. I mean...don't get me wrong...if someone wanted to give me one of those babies, I wouldn't pass it up. ;)

I'm with Python-77. It's the red tail that attracts me to red tail boas, along with the cute faces. :)

Actually not true - I've seen some real "ugly duckling" Colombians that turned into gorgeous snakes as adults surprisingly enough. Blanket statements with reptiles "usually" don't work. ;)

On this, I was referring to how snow boas start out as white & lavender babies & turn into big yellow snakes as they mature, since there hasn't been a truly (proven) axanthic boa bred into the snow projects yet.

Here are some pics from Pete Kahl's site...he was the first to produce snow boas.

As you can see, they take on a creamy yellow color as they grow.

Wow, that's still a really nice color.

I think I'd like the albino red tails if the red part stayed a nice dark red.

Interesting. Most of the time they start as grey babies & grow into a buckskin or tan color. If you call that darkening, ok. I call it an ontogenetic color change.

Granted, we each have our own opinions, but I'll take a light buckskin colored animal, or a tan snake with peach highlighting over a little grey nondescript baby any day.

How many boa babies have you raised to adulthood?

Zero, yet the fact still remains that they do change color.
What's buckskin colored to you ... is poo colored to me.

I'd take a grey shaded colombian over a brown any day.
If we could all leave our day jobs, and do what you do ... We would trust me :P

Yeah, personally I don't care what color they get ...
Still the same lovely snake as you had as a baby.

My point was just that most if not all colombians change color.

Check out this little one - so far, no color change. Her base coloration is a pearly gray-white in person...hard to catch on a digital.

You get to breed beautiful snakes for a living. :(

He will change his color over time though, correct?

I really like the silver ones like that, or the pewter colored ones. It's once they get the buckskin color that I stop thinking they're particularly attractive, though I still like them for their personalities, body structure, etc.

Hmm.. I wonder how a snow BCC would look. They tend to not darken so much as BCIs.

Have you guys seen arabesque and jungle boas? They're really neat looking IMO, but I don't care for the salmons either.

The arabesques are beautiful, and might satisfy those who miss the red tails. I'm not really a fan of the salmons, though the super jungles are pretty interesting looking.

    Those snows are pretty sweat.
I think I druther have a sunglo or a suriname though.
Man there are some screaming BCC's out there...

    KLG-
not saying I dissagree with you, but I am sure the majority of NERD boas are a lot more colorful then what you will find at the average breeder.

See, I think just the opposite. (aren't opinions & preferences a great thing? ;) ) To me a light, clean, creamy-buckskin boa with pink highlighting & big, dark, blocky saddles is just the epitome of a sexy Colombian.

Speaking of silver boas though, have you seen the anerythristic blood boas that Tracy is working with at VPI? Now THOSE are incredible. Just silver & black...awesome little snakes!

Also, there are a lot of selectively bred ghost boas these days that remain very grey into adulthood - good looking critters!

I think it's the difference in tastes that encourages pusuit of so many different morphs, and I'm all for that. If you subtract the pink, standard Colombian colors are actually the colors of my bedroom, so they are colors I like but for some reason I just prefer the silvery boas. I guess I haven't seen the Barkers' anerythristic blood boas -- are they a cross or is that maybe a typo? If their coloring is anything like pewter balls, I'm sure I would love their look.

Blood boas - they're a race of Central American boas that turn primarily a dark orangey-red as they mature. The anery version is actually called a pewter boa & they're gorgeous!

Oooh! Very cool. Thanks for the links. I checked their site but missed those. Can you recommend a good general-info site on those, or should I just dig?

I don't think there is much general info about the blood boas available yet. A few people are working with them but they're still a relatively new morph all things considered.

I'll see if I can dig up some more info for ya!

Thanks, I appreciate it! I guess it would be too much to hope for NERD or VPI to make it to one of the southeast shows like Atlanta, Greenville, Charlotte, etc.? I know the Breeders' Expo is a southern event, but it's also a much more expensive prospect for me personally than the other shows are.

    Wow, those blood-reds are awesome.
I am not really a big fan of albino boas because their coloration is too orangey to me.
I still like the yellowy looking snow boa adults, though. They look like they're sculpted out of butter!
