New DIY lizard homes - (almost) COMPLETE!
Well, I really wanted to get everything done before posting pictures, but I really need a break so might as well. The enclosures are all done anyway, only thing needs to be done are the furniture, so...
I'll post another pic when all done with the hides and stuff.
Basking lights turned off because it's so hot today.
Here they are, all built from scratch. Notice I stained the wood from darkest (bottom) to lightest (top) gradually.

Here's a better pic showing top ones.
I wish I could make one more the same size but that beam on the ceiling doesn't allow enough room.

That looks amazing. What type of reptiles is it going to be homes to?

They're already in there. ;)

Looks like its for Blueys! I am guess Northerns by the look of the substrate? The backgrounds look amazing! I wish I could pull off some backgrounds like that!
-
Very nice! What materials did you use? Are they just stacked on top of each other, or were they made to attach? Can I ask around how much it costs to build each unit?
Absolutely beautiful and well put together. I especially like the dinosaur background. Have you considered making those to sell?

Beautiful build and lizards. That's an unbelievable tease showing so little of the shingleback though! What's in the very top?

From top to bottom, Northern, Shingleback (aspera), Merauke, Northern, Northern. ☺

They are just stacked, no attachment. The enclosures are primarily plywood. Lost track of cost long ago... Backgrounds made from various materials including foam, plaster of paris, driftwood, bark, clsy etc. Bottom two backgrounds were bought. Top one was bought but I repainted it. The other two were constructed from scratch as detailed in my other two threads.
Never thought about making them to sell, takes a long time to make one and I'm not sure how well they would hold together during shipping.

Top one is a northern. I will put more pics once cage furniture is done. Just super tired after pulling an all nighter to finally get them finished (at least the enclosures) then going to work the next day. Fell right into bed after I got home.
Here is a pic of the shingleback. There is a thread detailing the construction of that background below in this forum too.

I was hoping there would be enough room up top to make one more, because I wanted to get a uro! :(

By the way, like I said, never thought about making them to sell, but you never know. However, in the meantime, if anyone wants to try making one themselves and have any questions on how etc., please feel free to ask. I've made enough mistakes within my limited experience that I think I can help you avoid at least some.

I'd love to have aNY of those enclosures in my reptile room. I love your work man it all looks amazing, great job!
-
I too am jealous of that shingleback! The only ones I have ever seen in person are at the SD zoo.

Thanks BumbleB.
Jclaiborne, they had a few at the pet shop some years ago, cost a LOT.

Those are sooo awesome! Love the skeletal touch!

Night has befallen...
I rigged it up with a system with a remote that I can change it to literally hundreds if not thousands of colors, as well as brightness and other functions.
Do you think this will mess with their sleep cycle or eye health? I've been playing around with it and they still have their eyes closed. I have it turned off now, but it WOULD be cool to wake up to pee in the middle if the night and see that and be like "Whoa! Awesome!". But if it will affect my skinks' health, then it would just be a "turn on for 30 mins to marvel at it" kinda thing. I know my tegu can see red light, but skinks so far didn't seem to notice.
Anyway, pics are here:

Not sure where you are located, but they NEVER show up in pet shops here, I honestly can say I haven't really seen any made available for sale even.

Yes, they are very rare outside of Australia. But they are out there. I've only seen them twice. There were only three of them when I bought her.
I went back to the store several times a week to see her, because she was so expensive, then on Christmas, I decided what the heck and bought her.
Since then I have seen them once, at another store, for a RIDICULOUS price (even for shinglebacks) which basically meant "not for sale".

Actually, I now remember that I saw one another time, many years ago, at a reptile expo where many international breeders were in town that time.
