    Rescue pied progression journal~
    Piebald Progression Journal

Last week I walked into a large chain petstore and found this little guy; dehydrated, skinny, and stuck in layers of retained shed. After much back and fourth with management, I convinced them to adopt /him/ out and will be updating this thread with his progress! I'm not sure of the sex yet, as I'm trying to handle little as possible right now-- but for now I'll use he.

To begin with, here is a video I took when he was still up for sale.

    This evening I brought Mr.unnamed home in the middle of a massive thunderstorm. After a crazy ride home, I had just got him settled in his bin when BAM, power outage. Sigh. But, luckily the house was warm enough to keep the critters comfortable for a few hours until it came back on. When I finally had light to see him properly, this is what I saw;

Shed removed, looks like our biggest issues are that irritated burn/blister and needing some groceries!

Today I am very pleased to say that he ate a small mouse, fresh killed, without even thinking twice about it! I was so worried that he'd be on strike whatwith all the changes and such, but phew. What a relief. No new photos yet, as I'm trying not to stress him.. But I promise to take some in the next few days. Name ideas anyone? It's kinda hard without knowing gender, but I hate not having anything to call /him/!

I am glad he/she ate. What about Zeus or one of the Greek gods?

Great job brother! Are you quarantining him at all? Glad he has you to take care of him. Good that he ate, probably was very hungry. Since he came home in a storm how about that name? Storm is a unisex name. Good luck and thanks again for stepping up! :gj:

Name it Dave. I always like it when pets have people names.

If a snake is strong enough and hungry it will eat.

Guess you can name him/her - STORM- sounds just about right with what the snake's been through literally / figuratively . Glad to hear it ate - it's always a good sign when they eat. Happy for you!

Weighed in at 127 grams today, on a full stomach. Checked his wound, is quite blistered/puss filled(?) on one side. Nothing open but very red. I'm thinking for now I should just let it be, unless there is something I could apply?

Love the name Storm, but we already have one of those in the house!

Glad he was brought to a better home, he's lucky to have someone come and rescue him. Such a shame 'Storm' isn't available as a name.. Why not another storm related name such as Cyclone, Monsoon, Tempest, Deluge? Someone will probably rescue you and think of a better name though. Lmao.

Anyway, best of luck with the recovery of him. :)

Maybe the next time you hold him apply a little neosporin to his wound & let it get some air (if possible, since its on his belly). Thn maybe wipe off th excess before putting him back in his tank? Might be an irritated area from his bad shed. Its great you've taken him & gotten him outta tht hell hole

Weighed again today on an (at least mostly) empty stomach. Two adult mice later, 147g. His /blister/ is looking a bit better, less red and no more puffy than it was. Wanted to see if he'd be interested in more food, so I dangled a live mouse in his bin-- usually I'd kill it if he showed interest, as he was too weak to do it himself, but today he SNATCHED it and got the job done like a pro.

Normally I'd try feeding once a week, but since he's so underweight is it alright to offer more than that? Or should I just let him take a few prey items once a week? One mouse left, then going to try switching him to smaller rat pups.

Looking good. You save a snake, and get a sweet ass snake for free.

Still fail to understand how a snake gets that thin with a feeding response like that.

Keep up what you're doing! Beautiful animal. I hope he makes a full recovery. Honestly, how does one let a snake get in that condition? And why? Especially with that feeding response... You can definitely feed him more than once a week. Four to six days is just fine for a young ball.

Oh, and as a name suggestion... How about Thunder? Going along with the storm idea with that one. Tsunami also seems like it would fit him, because his life at the pet store was like being hit by a tsunami and the floods were destroying him, while the waters are carrying him to a better life. Or maybe Zephyr, partly because it sounds cool and also because the rest of his life will hopefully be like a gentle breeze. Tsunami is my favorite out of those three.
