opinions on next snake

In trying to decide On what snake i want to get next, i love my ball pytbons but i would like to get something i dont need to go bother just to have a look at, im not opposed to something bigger then a ball. But i dont want to get something yet thats beyond one persons care when its full grown... my favorite feature of snakes has got to be the eyes, so whats everyones suggestion pics are very much welcome.

Ummm, for someone who's favorite feature is the eyes you picked a weird snake with a ball python. They have eyes that look like crawfish eyes. I think corn snakes have some pretty cool eyes.

I got a brazilian rainbow boa recently and she's been awesome. They have nice eyes, not to mention they're gorgeous in general. She does hide most of the time, but she's completely different than a ball while handling. Very active when she's out. Initially I was worried about keeping the humidity up, but it's not hard with cypress mulch. I only have one picture of her. I'd get more, but she's in blue right now.

If you want something that's more than happy to be out and viewed, get a Russian Rat Snake. I don't know how cool the eyes are, but most of the time they seem to happy to hang out in full view and watch what you're doing if you're in the room.

Most of the time she is not in her hide, but she is and I open the enclosure, unlike BP's who you can see withdraw their heads back into the hides, her's comes popping out trying to see what's going on.

Stick your hand in the enclosure, they're usually trying to figure out how to crawl up your arm. When you have them out, they are somewhat active, but relaxed and inquisitive. Putting them back in their enclosure is usually much more involved than getting them out.

Temps are cooler than BP's. Ambient in low to mid 70's is fine. A hot spot in the low to mid 80's works.

Feeding is extremely easy, they seem to eat anything they can fit in their mouth, live or FT. Mine seems to prefer prey on the smaller side, but I don't know if that's particular to mine or a trait of the species in general.

I think they get around 7' to 8' in length when full grown, but are not heavy bodied. They do like climbing, so an enclosure with some height and things to climb on would be good.

They start life as dull looking grey hatchlings, and turn dark black with yellow or cream colored bands as they get older.

There are not a lot of places to find them, so it may take you a while to find a breeder who actually has some available.

Funny thing is i wasnt looking to get a ball python, my plan was to go to a show and decide there, but i saw peach on the table and her green and gold eyes cought my eyes and then her color and i was sold... same thing with bowser... has these really nice silver eyes, BRB are some beautiful snakes

Retics have some insanely beautiful eyes. If you don't want a giant snake then go to the other end of the size spectrum - Savu pythons start out completely orange, with orange eyes that turn white as they age, while their bodies turn black.

My vote is for an Antaresia species! They have truly beautiful bronze/gold/green eyes. They stay very small, great eaters, very inquisitive and friendly.

Green Tree Pythons have my vote but they're not the best handling snakes. They're very gorgeous though.

Oh hey, what about an African house snake? They have awesome eyes and I think they're gorgeous, especially the albino ones. I don't have one (I wish!), but I've done some research and they don't sound hard to keep.

Yeah in terms of care requirements they seem pretty easy to keep. You rarely hear any horror stories about them (I've not seen one) and many are still WC. If a WC import is easy to care for imagine how easy a CB one would be.

I really like boa's eyes. (I'm partial to boa's to begin with)

I'm only 5'2" but I can handle an adult boa by myself. Their eyes are especially cool because they are colored the same pattern as their scales.

I just love how their eyes are the same color as their scale pattern.

And if you want something smaller than a boa, get a dwarf! Faust is a dwarf species, as long as you buy from a reputable breeder so you can be sure you're getting a true dwarf, you're good to go!

I second boas... Very fun to handle. They have nice eyes too (with a stripe running down the middle horizontally). Males stay smaller than females and there are dwarf localities out there (some maxing out at 4' some 5'). Most male colombian Bcis (the most commonly kept / sold type of boa) stay 6' or less. Mine are out more than my BPs and like to check out what is going on. They are my favorite snakes and I now have 3 with plans for more in the future.

Yeah I agree with the folks on boas. I have a ball and she is beautiful but my Hog Island is exquisite - the eyes are amazing and the entire body coloring is super. My ball is easy to deal with, taking out and going back into her enclosure (although there are times her head will be back out the door before her tail is all the way in and sometimes this will go on for awhile! I think she is playing with me, bratty snake!). The boa is a different character. Sometimes she does not want to be touched and lets me know - loud hisser! But I don't let that stop me. I keep gently rubbing her side, then pick her up carefully. By the time I have my grip on her she has stopped her grumping and is ok. She is active when out but still new to me and our house so she is a bit of a sook. I got her based on the assumption (not solely though) on the fact that Hog's do not get as large as other boas.

Great suggestions everyone, i think im narrowing it down between a jungle carpet because i absolutly love the colors on them or a boa, not sure what kind but i keep seeing thes hypos and they are absolutly gorgeous but then again the darker colored boa have an amazIng look all to them selfs, im more partial to brighter colors but i still love a good dark colored snake
