    Slowcountry Balls 2015 Clutches
Well, 2015 Clutch 1 is on the ground! The season is about to get really exciting. I have some pairings that I am really looking forward to.

Here is mom on the clutch and a picture of the eggs. The pairing was a big female Mojave to our Pastel Calico male.

    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...alico_eggs.jpg

8 good eggs and 1 slug is a good start. I wasn't expecting her to lay first, as I had my eye on my Pastel Congo, Melanistic Granite, and Congo (I caught the Pastel Congo looking real big and swollen back in the middle of February, and the Melanistic Granite and Congo were the first 2 to lay last year).

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures and I'll be sure to post more as the other clutches start showing up!

Dad is on the left. Last year he sired a Super Pastel Calico with my Pastel girl, so he has been productive so far. I also bred him to a Pinstripe Woma and a Pewter this year. I am pretty sure the Pinstripe Woma is going to lay this season, not so sure about the Pewter (though I am hoping, since she might have more going on than just Pastel and Cinnamon).

Here is a comparison shot of 2013 female Pewter in question (top middle) with her brother, a 2013 male Pewter mystic (front right), and their 2012 half sister, a Pewter (front left).

You can read more about the whole clutch here at this thread http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...47#post2344147

Just for some fun, here are some of the Pastel Calico's locks:

He has also been paired with another girl who maybe more than what she was sold as. I'll try to post something on that pairing later.

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures!

That Pastel Calico looks fantastic! I love the look of the calico/sugar morphs (although I'm unsure what the difference is between the two). Can't wait to see the results of these clutches.

Thanks. He is one that I enjoy looking at. People usually fall into one of two camps with Sugar/Calico. One camp believes they are different lines of the same gene like Butter/Lesser and Banana/Coral Glow. The second camp believes that they are two similar, but separate genes like Black Pastel/Cinnamon. There are a couple of good threads on this site discussing the issue.

Well a little bit of good news, and mainly disappointing news. Good news is that 2015 Clutch 3 has arrived. This was from a large imported girl that I got from a good friend. She bred multiple time for him, producing large clutches and is supposed to be the super form of an incomplete dominate melanistic gene. She is the grandmother of the female that laid 2014 Clutch 1 last year that had the melainstic characteristics show up. (A melanistic Jigsaw, a melanistic Pastave, and what I think is a melanistic Mystic were 3 of the 5 hatchlings in that clutch, just about text book odds for an incomplete dominate gene. But I am waiting until I can pair the melanistic Pastave male with his mother to test the gene before declaring it for sure). I have bred this large import girl (she is the biggest girl in my collection, and since she came as proven breeder, got the nick name "Big Mamma") for the past 2 seasons without ay eggs before, so I was pretty excited to see her on some eggs. The disappointing news starts with the fact that of the 9 eggs she laid, 5 were slugs, and of the 4 that were not complete slugs, only 2 have good veins. In addition to that, when I put her 4 non slug eggs in the incubator, I noticed that 3 eggs in 2015 Clutch 2 were going bad. I was able to separate the 3 good eggs (1 was rather difficult) and am hoping that the remaining 3 eggs from 2015 Clutch 2 and at least 1 egg form 2015 Clutch 3 make it. Here are the pictures:

2015 Clutch 2 eggs (that last good egg was difficult to separate from the bad eggs)

2015 Clutch 3, lots of slugs
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._eggs_comp.jpg

2015 Clutch 3, 1 big egg and 1 little egg show some good veins. I am hoping at least 1 makes it.

Will do. The first clutch should hatch around June 20th, until then, here is an update:

We've had 2 more clutches laid and an update on 2015 Clutch 3. One of the small, "boob" eggs has gone bad. Fortunately the remaining 3 show good veins.
    2015 Clutch 5 May 17 Update:
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...2015-05-17.jpg

2015 Clutch 4 was laid by our 2010 female Mojave het Hypo who was bred to our 2009 male Pastel Hypo possible het Pied for the first half of the season, and our 2013 male Pastel Hypo het Pied for the last half. Here is a picture of the mom on the eggs and a second picture of the 6 good eggs:
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._eggs_comp.jpg
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._eggs_comp.jpg

2015 Clutch 5 was laid by our big Paint female bred to our male Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint. This same pairing did not result in any Super Paints last season, but I am hopeful that we'll see some cool Super Paints and maybe even some Super Paint combinations! Here is a picture of the mom on her eggs and another picture of the 7 good eggs:

Yesterday was a good day, 2 more clutches.

First up is our Double Het Clutch. I acquired these as double het for Pied and Albino, but they produced some Albinos and what seem to be Caramel Albinos. You can take a look at this thread about their 2014 clutch (http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...e-Het-For-What). This year she only laid 7 eggs, with 1 being a slug, but her eggs are a lot bigger this year.

    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...2015-06-05.jpg

Also laid yesterday was a clutch by another Paint female, at least I bought her as a Paint. The pairing was a Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint male to a Paint female. We are really hoping for a Super Paint or Super Paint combination to prove that she is a Paint.

This is a much anticipated clutch. The pairing was our oringinal Orangebelly male to one of his 2012 daughters. Hopefully this will shed some light on why he has such a unique look!

Here is mom on 2015 clutch 8. She was sired by the original 2009 Orangebelly

This is the second of 3 possible clutches from our original male Orangebelly to his 2012 daughters. This one is a Pastel who laid a big clutch for us. Hopefully we will be getting some answers on his genetics.

2015 Clutch 9 has 8 eggs in it. Pretty good for a first time girl

Went away for the weekend and saw this Sunday evening. It was a day earlier than we were expecting them, so a very fun surprise. I'll get more pictures once they are all out of the eggs. (Sorry this one is blurry, cell phone had a little trouble focusing.)

So the last member of 2015 Clutch 1 has crawled out of the egg. He or she just didn't want to leave the comfort of the egg.

Here is 2015 Clutch 1 all out of the egg. I think it is 3 normals, 1 Pastel (maybe a Pastel Calico, just not sure right now), 1 Calico, 2 Mojave Calicos, and 1 Pastel Mojave Calico.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...2015-06-17.jpg

Here is the 2015 Clutch 1 Calico 1. I think he or she is going to have some real good whites.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_1.jpg

Here is the 2015 Clutch 1 Mojave Calico 1. At first I wasn't too sure about him or her having the Calico gene, but once he or she came out of the egg, I could see all of the distorted alien heads and I thing her or she is a Mojave Calico.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_1.jpg
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_4.jpg

Well, we got lucky, 2 Mojave Calicos in the the first clutch. This is 2015 Clutch 1 Mojave Calico 2. Again, in the egg I wasn't too sure, but now that he or she is out and I can see the distorted alien heads, I think we got a second Mojave Calico.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_1.jpg
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_3.jpg

Well, these had the same odds as a Pastel Mojave Calico, so here are 3 normals.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_1.jpg

Here is one that I am going to call 2015 Clutch 1 Pastel 1 for now. He or she may be a Pastel Calico, but I am just not sure. The 4 Pastel Calicos from last year stood out a bit more, but almost a year into their lives, they are just now starting to develop their whites. I really don't want to wait that long again. What do you guys think?
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_1.jpg
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_2.jpg

Here is the gem of the clutch, 2015 Clutch 1 Pastel Mojave Calico 1. Just look at him or her!
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_1.jpg
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-17_2.jpg

It's going to be fun to watch the whites develop on these guys. Let me know what you think of 2015 Clutch 1.

Thanks guys. It will be cool to see what colors really develop and where the white stays.

Checked on 2015 Clutch 2 earlier this morning and saw one cool looking snake starting to come out.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._in_eggs_1.jpg

Well, 2015 Clutch 2 started off with 6 eggs, about midway through incubation, we lost 3 eggs, but finding an egg with twins in it was a cool surprise. We think that one is a Mystic Sterling, while the other is a Super Pastel or Super Pastel Congo.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...s_in_egg_1.jpg

And the first to escape his or her egg from 2015 Clutch 2 is a Super Pastel possible Super Pastel Congo. This one just happened to be a twin with the Mystic Sterling.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._first_out.jpg

The Mystic Sterling (bottom right) came out just a few minutes later. The middle egg looks to be a Pastel Mystic, and the top egg is at least a Pastel, maybe a Pastel Congo.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._in_eggs_5.jpg

Here is the Mystic Sterling from 2015 Clutch 2 in the egg after the Super Pastel (or Super Pastel Congo) left the egg.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...1_in_egg_1.jpg

And here is the Mystic Sterling from 2015 Clutch 2 escaping the egg. You can see how the Mystic gene has influenced the Sterling pattern by connecting and smearing the alien heads.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...coming_out.jpg

Here is 2015 Clutch 2's Mystic Sterling. I love how the alien heads are connected on the first half of his or her body.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-20_4.jpg

Here is another shot of the Mystic Sterling from 2015 Clutch 2.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-20_6.jpg

Here is 2015 Clutch 2's Super Pastel or Super Pastel Congo. The head is really cool!

Another shot of the Super Pastel (or Super Pastel Congo) from 2015 Clutch 2.

Got some fun pictures and a little bit of sad news. First up, the fun stuff:

2015 Clutch 1 has shed and here are some pictures:
Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 female normal 1.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_2.jpg

Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 female normal 2.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_2.jpg

Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 female normal 3.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_3.jpg

Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 female Pastel Question. We think she is just a Pastel, but there are some signs that she might have the Calico gene (mainly the color in the bottom half of the alien heads). Right now we are being conservative and saying just a Pastel, but we'll give her some time to grow and show what she really is.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_2.jpg

Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 female Mojave Calico. I really think this is a Mojave Calico because of the way the alien heads are distorted and smeared at the tail. We'll give her some time to grow to see if she is indeed a Mojave Calico.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_6.jpg

Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 female Pastel Mojave Calico.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_5.jpg

Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 male Calico. He is going to be a really high white Calico!
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_4.jpg

Here is a post shed picture of 2015 Clutch 1 male Mojave Calico. I really think this is a Mojave Calico because of the way the alien heads are distorted and smeared at the tail. We'll give him some time to grow to see if he is indeed a Mojave Calico.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-06-27_4.jpg

And a little bit of an update on 2012 Clutch 2. All of them came out of the egg by Sunday night and we were able to get these pictures:
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._all_out_1.jpg
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file..._all_out_2.jpg

Here is what we think to be at least a Super Pastel and a Pastel. We are not sure if either, or both, got the Congo gene. The Congo gene can be real subtle on its own or in some combinations, and then really pop out in other combinations like the Congo Fire. We'll have to give these two some time to see what develops.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...l_question.jpg

Here is a shot of the 2 with the Mystic gene, a Mystic Sterling and what we think was a Super Pastel Mystic (more to follow about this one in the next picture)
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...c_sterling.jpg

Here is an individual shot of the last one to crawl out. It was at least a Super Pastel Mystic. We were able to get this picture Sunday night. Unfortunately, we went to check no all the snakes Monday night, and found that this one's body cavity had ruptured. There was a lot of blood and soft tissue that had come out of the rupture (right where the umbilical chord was healing shut). There was the large cartilage mass half protruding from the opening. We were able to remove the mass, irrigate the open wound, and close the open wound. We put this little one back in its own tub, and for a couple of days, it looked like it might be coming around, but unfortunately, when we went to check on it last night, it had died. This is the unfortunate part of the hobby.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...tel_mystic.jpg

    Thanks for following our season!

Well, here is one for bad looking eggs. 2015 Clutch 3 was a bunch of slugs and four really ugly looking eggs. One of those eggs did die, but after a fun day with some of our extended family, my wife suggested we check on the eggs in this clutch. It was two days before I was expecting anything, so I thought it was going to be a waste of time, but my wife was right. We saw a nose poking out of one of the eggs. It is at least a Jigsaw, maybe more. So we cut the other two eggs and both of them have a live hatchling in them. One is at least a Mojave and the other is at least a Jigsaw. I'll post some more pictures once they are out of the eggs, but here is what we saw.

Here is 2015 Clutch 3 all in the egg, the egg in the middle pipped on its own, and then we cut open all of them. It looks like 2 that are at least Jigsaws, maybe more, and one that is at least a Mojave, maybe a Melanistic Mojave. I'll post more pictures after they shed.

Thanks. Bummer about the VPN problems. You'll like 2015 Clutch 10, it was laid tonight and is from our Pastel Calico to the Pinstripe Woma. Thanks for the input. Hopefully a few sheds will make it clear if she has the Calico gene. Yeah, the Super Pastel is very clean, but that is exactly what the Congo gene can do. It tends to be a highlighter or enhancer gene. It's been around for a while, just not worked with much. Take a look at what the Congo gene did to the Fire gene. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...119-Congo-Fire

Thanks! I am a sucker for Mojave/Mystic stuff, and Pinstripe works great with them.

Here is 2015 Clutch 3 all out of the eggs. They are starting to haze up for their first shed. All three got the Mojave gene, with two getting the Pinstripe gene. I am not sure yet if either of the Jigsaws have either Pastel or Melanistic, and I think the Mojave has the Melanistic gene.

This is from our Pinstripe Woma girl to our male Pastel Calico. Six eggs for a first time girl is a great start. Looking forward to seeing what hatches out.

Found another clutch this morning, it is from our male Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint to a female that is supposed to be a Pastel Paint Chocolate. Hopefully we'll get some answers in about 60 days.

Here is the Pastel Paint possible Chocolate on the eggs.

    And here are the eggs.

Hoping to finally get some Super Paints and Super Paint combinations. We now have three clutches from our Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint to two girls who are supposed to be Paints and this girl, so we now have around 18 eggs that can produced Super Paints or Super Paint combinations.

Yeah, I am just not sure. I've hatched out a couple of Jigsaws, what I think is a Melanistic Jigsaw, and a Jigsaw Blast, and I am just having trouble being confident in calling the genes right now. I'm going to give them some sheds before I label them for sure. Thanks, the Woma Pinstripe Pastel Calico could look pretty cool.

This is a bonus clutch. I bought this girl as a male back in 2012. I didn't see any locks when I paired the "male" with a female. So I checked him and thought it was a her. Limey from Royal Reptilia (https://www.facebook.com/RoyalReptilia) double checked for me. I paired her with the 2012 male Pastel Calico

These just came out of the eggs of 2015 Clutch 4. We're waiting for them to shed before we sex them, but it looks like a Pastel het Hypo, a Mojave het Hypo, a Pastave het Hypo, a Hypo, a Pastel Hypo, and a Pastave Hypo.

Here is 2015 Clutch 5 all out of the egg. After they shed, we'll sex them. There are some cool hatchlings here, but unfortunately no Super Paints.

Here is 2015 Clutch 3 after they shed. All 3 are male. We have a Mojave Melanistic and the ther two are Jigsaw Melanitstics or Jigsaw Blast Melanistics. Not really sure since there aren't any others to compare to.

Thanks. We appreciate the compliments. When 2015 Clutch 5 sheds out and we can get better pictures of them, we will certainly post more pictures and describe each one in more detail. Here is some background on the Paint morph. It is a really subtle incomplete dominate morph. The heterozygous form (Paint) has a real granite like look with smeared/faded alien heads on the neck. Charles Glaspie was the first to import the het morph and the first to produce supers. Ted Williams worked closely with Charles and our Paint stuff came from someone who bought from Ted. There are a couple of genes that may be the same gene, but different lines (Ben Siegle's Sentinel and Jon Courtney's Nazca, among others). The super or homozygous form is really cool. Here are links to some pictures:
    http://www.worldofballpythons.com/morphs/paint-ball/
    http://www.worldofballpythons.com/mo...er-paint-ball/

Two of the most helpful breeders with the most experience that I have found for help when dealing with this morph are Jon Courtney (http://www.coldbloodedaddiction.com/) and Limey (https://www.facebook.com/RoyalReptilia).

Until the hatchlings finish shedding, you can look at last year's clutches from our Paint stuff:

    Hope that helps.

Well, work and life got crazy this breeding season. As those of you who have been checking out our Facebook page know, we have had a pretty cool season. I will try to catch this thread up over the next couple of posts.

This girl is our third Pastel Mojave Hypo. She is from 2015 Clutch 4. We held back the first girl Pastel Mojave Hypo that we produced in 2013 and she is a stunner. We fully expect this girl to be just as nice.

Here are the results of 2015 Clutch 5. This clutch is a little difficult because it involves the Paint gene. Limey Smidger of Royal Reptilia (https://www.facebook.com/RoyalReptilia) and Jon Courtney (http://www.coldbloodedaddiction.com/ and screen name coldbloodaddict on these forums) have been a huge help with looking at my clutches involving the Paint gene. Originally the Paint gene was imported by Charles Glaspie. Charles Glaspie classified it as an incomplete dominate gene. Ben Siegel of Ben Siegel Reptiles Inc (https://www.facebook.com/reptileshop2) found his own gene that looked to be similar, the Sentinel gene. After these two genes had been brought to the USA, Jon Courtney found the Nazca gene in his Enchi project. These three genes were all initially classified as incomplete dominate. Ben Siegel later decided to switch the classification of the Sentinel gene from incomplete dominate to recessive, while Charles Glaspie and Jon Courtney have kept the classification of the Paint and Nazca gene as incomplete dominate.

As you can see on Limey's timeline, on July 22, Limey posted pictures showing that he had proved the Paint and Sentinel genes to be compatible. Because of the compatibility, Limey has decided that he is going to classify the Paint gene as recessive and not incomplete dominate. At the same time, as you can see by the pictures Limey posted on his timeline on September 9, the heterozygous Paint Super Stripe looks very different from the Super Stripe. This furthers the discussion as to whether or not the Paint and Sentinel genes are truly recessive, or are they an extremely subtle incomplete dominate gene. Some combinations seem to cause the Paint gene to be much more visible in the heterozygous form. I sent an email to Jon about Limey proving the Paint gene compatible with the Sentinel gene, but I have not heard anything back from him. Maybe Jon will weigh in on this topic in the near future.

The sire was a Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint and the damupposed to be a female Paint, but I mixed her up with my female het Albino het Caramel Albino (for the entire season). Here are some pictures of the Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint sire with what I think are a female Cinnamon Yellowbelly and a Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint. The Paint gene really seems to have made itself visible by intensifying the Yellowbelly side-belly pattern and by distorting the alien heads of the last third of the body.
The Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint sire is in the middle with the Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint on the left and the Cinnamon Yellowbelly on the right.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...5-07-28_-3.jpg
Again, the Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint sire is in the middle with the Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint on the left and the Cinnamon Yellowbelly on the right, really trying to show the last third of the body of each snake in this picture.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-07-28_5.jpg

Here are two pictures of the Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint, the Cinnamon Yellowbelly, and Cinnamon from 2015 Clutch 5. In the first picture, the Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint is in the lower left, with the Cinnamon Yellowbelly in the lower right and the Cinnamon in the top middle.

2015 Clutch 6 was supposed to be a Double het Albino and Caramel Albino clutch. Last year this pairing produced 2 Albinos and 2 Caramel Albinos. This year there were no Albinos and no Caramel Albinos, so I thought we just missed the odds. Then looking at pictures of 2014 clutches, I noticed that at some point in the season, the 2009 Paint female had been switched with the het Albino het Caramel Albino female. That explains the lack of Albinos and Caramel Albinos. So all of these are are 50% possible het Albino, 50% possible het Caramel Albino, and possible Paint.

Here is the lone female from the clutch:

2015 Clutch 7 was another clutch with the Paint gene. Look back at the post about 2015 Clutch 5 for more information on the Paint gene. The pairing was a male Cinnamon Yellowbelly Paint with a Paint female. I am not sure if any of the hatchlings got the Paint gene or not, but we did get 2 possible Paints and 3 Yellowbellies possible Paints.

2015 Clutch 10 may have a World's First in it. We hatched out a Woma Pinstripe Pastel Calico! The pairing was a male Pastel Calico to a female Woma Pinstripe.

    The 1 in 16 Normal!
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-09-03_3.jpg

    A male Pastel.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-09-03_3.jpg

A nice male Calico. He broke away from his yolk early, so he is only 34 grams.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-09-08_3.jpg

Now we will go through the progression of stacking the genes up to the Woma Pinstripe Pastel Calico.

We'll start with a nice female Pinstripe.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-09-03_4.jpg

Now will add the Woma gene to get a female Woma Pinstripe.
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-09-03_3.jpg

Let's next add Pastel to get a female Woma Pinstripe Pastel (also called a Lemon Blast Woma).
    http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...15-09-03_4.jpg

And finally, the quad, a male Woma Pinstripe Pastel Calico!
