    And then there were two....
I've been wanting me a Speckled King for as long as I knew about them (and that's a very long time). I also wanted a Ball Python for just as long, but that's been a reality for more than a year now. Here's my new baby girl :

Well, she's definitely not green. I think it's sort of an optical illusion...the markings are black and yellowish white (and she has a little bit of orange on her ventral side). I read somewhere that Speckled Kings sometimes appear "greenish."

My two kings are L. getula splendida, and both have a decided green cast to the yellow speckling. This is especially noticeable in sunlight. The black on mine is also the blackest shiney jet black I have ever seen.

She's beautiful! She was about the same size as Tsoss at a year old - he's cranky and self-brumating at the moment, apparently. The speckled kings were what originally made me really want a snake. I want to get some more Cal Kings... but after my experience with Ssa, my female, I'm pretty skittish about it now. I know what I want, I just haven't committed to getting them.

    February 2017 Update
Olympias went off feed last October, so I brumated her until Feb. 9. She didn't lose much weight - she's fed twice since then, and is now at 908g clean.

I think her cross-banding is now much less distinct, and it appears her speckling is growing more uniform. (She's now about 2 years and 8 months). I plan to feed her two jumbo mice every 10 days, and see how it goes. I think she might be a tad heavy. She's a little over 4 feet..what do you think ? Here are some pics from today:

She's very pretty sc. She does look just a little chunky in the 2nd pic but at her age 900g seems about right and your feeding schedule seems on point too. My MBK was a tad over 900g at 3.5 y/o. She would eat 1-2 jumbo mice every 10-14 days.

I rehomed them to make room for an albino carpet and an olive python. It was tough but I realized that I prefer working with larger animals. I still love and miss them :(. They went to a really great home though. :)

    Rats ? / Weight check
    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...psvw8ui8jt.jpg

Took two jumbo mice after shed about a week ago..This is a clean weight.

I was wondering if I should try a small F/T rat out on her. Anyone else have kings that take rats regularly ? As I recall, Firemanv and El-Ziggy said their kings didn't much care for them....

I just picked up a lav striped cal king that was eating rats at the shop I got him/her (not sure yet) from. I would imagine it's like any other snake they just kind of have their preference and a don't fix what aint broke kind of thing. One of my corn snakes has eaten a rat pup here and there, she's my biggest female as well. It never hurts to try though so why not give it a try

I did ! She took a small 53g rat last Friday, which my finicky Ball Python refused. I'm not going to force the issue, since I still have a good supply of jumbo mice in the freezer. It's still good to know that I have a "go-to girl" when the bp decides to be snooty at feeding time...

    Summer 2018 Update
It's been awhile since I supplied an update to this "progression thread..."

Olympias is now a little over 4 years, and is at about 55 inches, 1183 grams - prior to her last meal, which was last night.

She had just completed a shed, and was customarily hungry, having not been fed for two weeks.

It was her first time taking 3 Jumbo Adult Mice, which she successively dispatched in fairly short order. Afterward, she curled up in her water bowl to get a little buoyancy relief, and was courteous enough not to spill water over the edges into her freshly laid bedding. I took the below photo a few weeks ago, after she had crawled into a hide I have out on the screened porch..

Olympias has finally reached 5 feet ! At a little over four years, I think she still has some growing to do.
