Newly Adopted might have some scale rot?

As this is only my second snake, I just bought her from someone. I was too excited about her when I got her to look her over. Also since this is my first boa, I didn't really think anything of it. But I think she has scale rot in spots, I have read about it and mites. I have ruled out mites, as nothing is falling off like they would nor when I see what I think is the scales coming off in water it's like one or two with no legs. If it is, what can I do to help heal/ get rid of it? I hope imfreaking out over nothing and it's just her color.

Relax, I would say it's just coloring. A lot of boas have freckles :)

I agree, it looks more just like coloring. You mostly find scale rot on bellies as that is the spot that sits on damp substrate 24/7 plus you wont miss it. It will look like reddish sores.

Omg that is such a relief. I thought it was individual scales that had rotted and turned black, I didn't know they could have freckles like that. I thought that scale rot was majority on belly, although she is a light pink in some spots, but I thought it might have been because her previous owner did not have her on a thermostat, just heating pad plugged in. But ofc I have fixed that, and have her temps and humidity perfect. She seems happy, loves to explore and be handled that's for sure haha. Thank you for the help guys!

Yes, that is what its called the dirty look. Little black spots. All normal morphs of boas have them. I can post a photo of my boa if you want see his black spots to make you feel better, but I promise you, that is just how boas look.

Yeah thats definitely not rot. Boas have highly variable patterning, even within the same genetic morph. If an animal has scale rot you will know. It looks awful.

My ball python has these weird orange patches on her belly.some part of her scale look flaky.im almost certain its scale rot.there arent any reptile vets in my area...what do i do?:(

Call vets near you and ask if they can see him. Even if a vet isn't listed as a reptile specialist they all have training in exotics. You could also ask an exotics vet if they could skype with you to see your snake. Sometimes they can identify and prescribe over the phone.

Start off by switching to paper towels as substrate. Then give betadine bathes and look for a vet. If you don't see improvements in a few days, then its time to set up an appointment with said vet.

Thank you for all the help. It definetley was a tremendous relief to know that she is healthy! She eats perfectly for me! Guy had her on chicks, but I put her back onto rats and she has eaten everytime for me. If I had the space for another big cage to put another one in for when they are adults, I would buy another one lol.

One more question. They guy I got her from says she is a Jungle. From what I have read it can be hard for someone new to boas to completely tell. She said she is 100% for jungle offspring. But I cannot really tell a difference between a normal and Jungle yet.

The information from who you bought the boa from is slighting confusing and possibly misleading. The jungle genetic trait is a co-dominant mutation, meaning you can't be "100% for jungle." When percentages are used that's for homozygous recessive traits, and the percentage denotes the likelihood that the gene for that mutation is passed on to subsequent offspring. With a co dominant trait like jungle, they carry one dominant allele for the trait and thus would pass this on to 50% of their offspring. I would have to see the tail to see if the boa does in fact carry the mutation at all.

Sorry this is such a late response, new puppy has had attention lately haha. Anyways, I figured when I learned the original owner didn't have a thermostat and her tank smelled pretty bad. Anywho, thank you for the info on the traits. Here is some pics of her to see if anyone can further tell if she even has anything in her. I'm going to assume she is just a normal though lol.

Yeah, that's what I had figured once he informed me of the way the Jungle trait works in boas. I'm still learning about types of boas.
