What kind of snake is this?

Didn't know where to post this.
Friend posted it on fb and said "my friend killed this monster rattlesnake at his farm"
First off I know for sure this isn't a rattlesnake, so what kind do you think it is?

Hard to tell from the photo. Just a educated guess, I will go with hog island boa! A escaped pet that obviously has been living wild and thriving. Peace.:O

Well it's a pretty common image across the web, so I highly doubt your friend knew anything about the situation. Feel free on calling them out on it, btw, because I've seen that picture everywhere and nobody seems to know the original source.

As for what it is, I have no idea. Since no one knows where the picture came from it's hard to find out where it was taken and therefore what kind of snake it could be. It's also low quality and hard to make out the pattern and without a good size comparison.

I've seen this before too.. The most plausible theory I've heard is that it's an Argentine boa and the photo was taken in Argentina. This would make sense due to the patterning on the snake, and the fact that agriculture does go on in Argentina.. So the snake just chose the wrong spot to hang out on harvesting day.

Whoa! I have no idea what kind of snake it is but it's way huge and so glad I haven't come across one. I'll stick to my bp for now.

I also have a feeling IF its legit that it wasn't taken here in the states.
That's a round bale so that would make that snake HUGE.
True Hoggs don't get that large, they are also not that common here.

Your friend is lying to you. This picture has been around for a while and it is most definitely NOT a rattlesnake. It does look like an Argentine boa and the picture was most likely taken in Argentina. Also the snake looks huge to us here in the US because we are used to driving by a field and seeing those giant hay bales that are about 6 feet across. judging by the plant matter in the bale it looks to me like this one is quite a bit smaller but as there is nothing else in the picture to use as a scale it's impossible to tell what the actual size is.

The internet is filled with these kinds of urban legends, (here are just a few examples) it always bears double checking these kinds of claims before re-posting them elsewhere so no one else knows how badly you've been fooled.

Now hang on guys, we can't forget that to the people who don't know about herps "all snakes are rattle snakes"

Lol in Florida, as it slowly becomes more and more city than anything, fewer and fewer people know that stuff. In my experience it's just rattle snake or moccasin. It doesn't help when the racers and rat snakes will vibrate their tales if you catch or corner one :(
