    Do you ever buy equipment...
Do you ever buy equipment that's too good of a deal to pass up, even if you don't need it?

For me it's enclosures, thermostats, and heat, and for some reason the stuff doesn't sit around unused for very long, even if I didn't have a plan for it when I bought it.

I do, I have 5 aquarium filters that currently being unused lol. Just recently got back into the bp world, but I've noticed I have a couple extra thermometers and hydrometers already

I do all of the time with other hobbies. And almost started with this one.
I Had to restrain myself from buying that heat package deal from Mr Misha this morning because I'm saving up for a PVC enclosure for my Boa.

I'm probably going to end up doing that if I find any deals. I've been keeping an eye on classifieds and craig's list even if I don't really need the stuff rn. Figure it's never a bad idea to be prepared!

    Honestly...a resounding yes!

There is a reason why when we all go into a WalMart/Target/etc we all, and I know all of us do it, head straight to the tub section. I do not know what it is about tubs, racks thermostats etc but they have this excitement behind them.

I am always browsing craigslist and forums looking for people wanting to dump off unwanted equipment. Now all I need to do is get my wife as excited as I am so I can actually purchase things instead of window watching ;)

Dooo it! Lol. Honestly, I'm just doing a bit of housekeeping. I know that i'm probably never going to use it so why hoard? I do have a Herpstat 2 that's waiting for an incubator though.

Gotta start saving up for a hatchling rack and a Red Box incubator. Maybe i'll get lucky and stumble on a rack for an awesome price!

Yes, I believe a spare thermostat is a good idea, they do on occasion fail.

Having a back up is a good idea, and having a back up for the back up can't hurt, right?

A spare for the back up, back up, is only prudent.

An extra spare for the spare for the back up, back up...

This is what I tell my wife anyway...

Oh you guys have no idea how bad I'm into Back Ups! Even my pantry is full of back up condiments. And my laundry room with back up cleaning supplies.
    The list is endless!

As far as the thermo supplies, I need to get the primary first!

I only do this with pet hobbies. Not sure why. I am constantly picking up aquariums, gear, etc. if it's priced to move.

Honestly, most of it comes back to expos with me and I sell it for double I paid. So it's a money making venture if nothing else.

Ex. 18x18x18 Exo Terra. I had no use for it at the time but someone was selling 2 for 70 bucks. I ended up selling one for $60 and going to sell the other for $60 this weekend.

See that's the thing, I don't buy stuff to resell it, but I'll scour the local ads for stuff that I could potentially see myself needing in the future, either based on my purchasing plans, or looking at the babies I have now and what they would need as they grow.

I'm usually broke or five minutes too late when the deals show up, but I never pass on a good deal. Stuff seems to just occasionally fall into my lap, and having an extra cage helps.

Oh, I always buy it with the intention of needing it in the future... then it sits in my reptile room or the closet for a year and I realize it's never happening. That's when it goes up for sale. At least I don't hoard it forever!

It is funny, at any given moment I have enough for a complete new set up from what is on the shelf. Today I had one of the local guys call in a panic because they managed to knock a herpstat off a rack and into a cleaning bucket. (apparently herpstats don't like F919 :confuzd: ) He called completely freaked out asking about where to get a stat fast, it turns out I had not only a stat but the exact stat that he soaked! Why you have extras, you never know...

I'm picking up a few vision cages this weekend that I have no use for as of now but the price is too good to pass up. Hopefully I'll figure out what to do with or put in them but even if I sold 1 or 2 I'll easily make my money back. It's not the first time either I'm always searching around for reptile stuff I even have a heat panel that's way too big for any of my enclosures but for $15 I couldn't say no.

I have a whole bunch of stuff I bought and never used, stored next to the stuff I bought and used once before realizing that it sucks. These used to be next to the bunch of useless crap my friend with the same mental disorder gave me, that HE didn't need, and I would never use (night glow bulbs, hot rocks, infra-red moonlight voodoo , babbling brook bowls etc. and other assorted crap).

Recently, a reptile store closed shop here, and sold off all the equipment cheap, adding to my "hoarders syndrome".

A lot of stuff has been there for LITERALLY ALMOST A DECADE. I'm not kidding. And when I finally want to use any of it, it is usually buried so deep I can't find it and just buy a new one.

Although I must say, the one or two times in my life that I've actually dug up stuff and USED them, and the sweet "I told you so" moment that comes with it, is well worth it.

I always purchase the 1$/gallon tanks when they come on sale, last time I bought 5 29gallons. I keep fish though so I can always make use haha
