    What are they eating?

That's my omnivore mix. It contains dead insects, ground turkey, chopped greens, and a bit of fruit. The color is due to the beets we added in this week. Gives it an unintentional carrion look.

These guys are so cool... I have always been told they are petty fragile and drop their tails easily so they are more hands off. Any truth to that?

Not really something you have to fret over with the European legless lizards, aka scheltopusiks. I've worked with them briefly in the past and even the angry corkscrewers never dropped their tails in my handlings. Any plans for breeding? I sure would love to raise up a baby or two!

I don't know anything about these guys - I've never even seen them before - but now I want one. Are they hard to care for? What makes them legless lizards and not snakes? What kind of things do they need to stay comfortable?

    They are so awesome!

I assume they burrow? Can someone make a large ant farm style enclosure for them, and then make a small scale "tremors"? Lol

I've always loved these guys and would love to get a pair someday. Are you breeding them? I've never heard of anyone producing captive born sheltopusiks before.

I've got eastern legless lizards in my backyard, and while they are cool they do not compare to the ones in this thread. Are they the same?

These are European Legless Lizards or Sheltopusiks They can get up to about 4 feet long, they may be similar in some ways but would be from a different genus than the legless lizards from the US. The ones you see in your backyard are probably Eastern Legless Lizards

The easterns are in the genus Ophisaurus. They're a beautiful species, especially mature males, but are more prone to practice caudal autonomy - willfully dropping their tails. Scheltopusiks were in the same genus until they got their very own - Pseudopus.

I have 2.4 now. I'm hoping to cycle this next winter in hopes of getting CB babies.

Hoping to. Have to put a bit more size on them first.
