Recommend a TV series !!'
Edited version :)
Just watching Peaky Blinders from the start ..... it's a fairly recent program 2013 I think , so there's only TWO series of 6 eps so far .
This is a truly amazing series IMHO . Over the years I've raved about The Sopranos , The Wire , Breaking Bad , Mad Men , The Tudors , Deadwood and more recently Boardwalk Empire , True Detective , Game of Thrones and Vikings BUT this is possibly my favourite of ALL !!
Superb , writing , cast , acting , photography , locations everything is just to my taste . Even the background music is wonderful ...
Best of all its "based" on real people and real events rather like Boardwalk Empire and Deadwood .

Whitechapel is one of my favourites, based in London with a great cast and the way they tell the stories are great. Too short in all, but well worth the watch!
Orange is the new black is incredible, Netflix original! The cast is so perfect, has me in stitches every episode!
Any Louis Theroux series is awesome, one of the best journalists going in my opinion.
There is just far too much TV to watch! I cannot wait for Game of Thrones to come back, that is such an awesome program!

I was amazed just how many characters / situations were introduced / appeared in the very first episode ....and it was still riveting .

Besides those that were named already, I really enjoyed Broadchurch. Really compelling storyline.
My favorite show is Supernatural. The first 5 seasons are fantastic. The past 5 seasons have been hit or miss. Some good, and some it seemed like the writers threw darts at a dartboard to see what would stick.
-
I heartily enjoyed Peaky Blinders, the points you made about it are spot on. I am a huge Justified fan, so I always recommend that. Whitechapel as well, the first season is a retelling of the Jack the Ripper story but in our time. I really got into the British spy thriller show The Game, it was in the same vein as Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Cerebral and lot so of plot development plus each episode had a HUGE twist that prompted a return to the show the next week. It's much better than most of the other spy shows out right now.

Re: Recommend a TV series !!'
OMG. Just started watching the Italian gangster series called Gomorrah . It's as good as Romanzo Criminale just set in modern times . Absolutely amazing !
-
The best I've seen in a long time is Banshee on Cinemax. :gj: They pack sooo much storyline and action in one hour it is unreal. You are left craving MORE! :taz:
For me, the raw sex :O is a bit much, but usually doesn't last too long. The only small negative.

My wife has been binge watching 'Crossing Jordan' lately. I have to stop walking through the living room because I end up getting caught up in the story, sit down and start watching and never getting anything done.

heroes was one of my favs :) and pretty much any anime xD

We gave up on Homeland after the end of series ONE . We just felt that we were never getting any closer to knowing anything for certain ....and that woman's crazy behaviour just put us off the whole thing . We didn't really LIKE or CARE about any of the characters --- if that makes any sense ...

The original CSI.... Up to about season 7 it is great. After that... don't bother.
The West Wing The first 4 seasons are very good if you like good writing and dialogue.
Of course, Seinfeld. Best up to season 6
Hmm.. I wonder what it says about me that I don't like any current shows? lol
-
Re: Recommend a TV series !!'
I forgot to mention Newsroom. Perhaps the best show to have come out recently. It's perfection as far as a tv series goes. I loved the first 4-5 seasons of West Wing and really enjoy Aaron Sorkin's writing and casting in that. But he completely surpassed that series with the Newsroom.
If you don't mind some random convoluted fun, over-the-top acting and incredibly imaginative writing then check out Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. To a certain extent, it reminds me of Arrested Development as far as how awkward some of the relational acting is concerned and how outlandish some of the plot is. But it's well worth the time as each episode is remarkably funny. The main actor and her "sidekick" have some of the best comedy lines on scripted television.

You guys all saw this coming and you damn well know it: the walking dead. I'm sorry to be this guy, but it's just that I've watched it from day one of it airing and have been hooked ever since.
If you like comedy go with what Reinz said: sienfeld. It's literally the funniest show. Curb your enthusiasm is good. Another show is Louis, Louis CK is a genius. For drama/ comedy a new show just aired called "the last man on earth."

Yeah, Curb Your Enthusiasm is great, but being HBO it does have cussing and heavier adult themes than Seinfeld.

Didn't see anyone suggest this but Downton Abbey is an awesome series.

Breaking bad is the best TV show I've ever watched hands down

I never could get into that show, I watched a couple of seasons and then just gave up. I thought Walt's character was so completely amoral that I couldn't find anything likeable about him.

I think that's the appeal- a normal good father figure who is force to adapt and change from the route he's chosen/been handed. It's the same with the walking dead if you watch that, Rick was the last person to kill unless he absolutely had to and over all the seasons he's become a hardened survivor who won't hesitate to kill. But I get what you mean, who wants to root for that kind of person?

The clincher for me was when Walt just stood there and allowed Jesses girlfriend to die choking on her own vomit. That episode bothered me so much I just stopped watching and haven't seen another episode since.

Yeah that's where I stopped watching also, but for me it was because I got board. Hate to hijack threads but all well: he did that sort of to help Jessie, I mean he could have done a number of things to separate them but he saw where she was dragging Jessie; getting him hooked on another drug.

You both gave up at the part where it goes from good to flaming AMAZING ! Gets better and better as it goes on .

I couldn't get into breaking bad either. I just found the main character so unlikable... From episode one. He went from a wimp (not a normal guy..but a spineless character) to a "bad" guy, but just didn't have any personality. And... I couldn't suspend disbelief the plot holes were too much for me.
Arrested development seasons 1-3 were good. The latest season... Not so much lol.
I will have to check out Newsroom... I didn't know Sorkin had done another series that recently.

If you like to cringe then the last man on earth is pretty good. I'll just say this: he's got the world to himself and nothing goes his way.

The walking dead, best show ever on television!!!

Re: Recommend a TV series !!'
I must say Tyler Perry's "the haves and the have nots" has brought me to a new awareness of embracing where you are at. Also how important it is to treat people who are less fortunate than you with respect and dignity. Just because someone can't help me they still need to be treated with dignity. Peace.:)

Re: Recommend a TV series !!'
iZombie, smart, quirky comic book TV adaption, first original Zombie thing in years, the title is unfortunate(named after the comic), almost passed it by because of it. Not trying to get too attached though, was a Heroes, Pushing Dasies and Firefly fan, too many good shows get canceled early, or the writer gives up on them after a season or two.

My daughter raves about this but I tried an episode last night and gave up after 5 minutes !
Two blokes opened a storage unit or something and found some zombies hiding in there and then there was 5 minutes of slaughtering a never ending supply of zombies .
Just don't get it !!

You have to watch it from the beggining, it's a story. You can't just open a book you've never read before into the middle and expect it to make sense. First episode is somewhat slow but it picks up quick.

Shows I am caught up on: Defiance, Elementary, iZombie, Suits, The Blacklist, The Following. I am currently catching up on 12 Monkeys.
Newsroom was awesome but had a quick end in season 3 due to cancellation. My favorite is probably The Blacklist, just has the coolest story imo and you are always guessing whats next. iZombie looks like it has potential, it just started but I'm digging it so far. The Following is another cool story but this newest season doesn't have me feeling the greatest about the main characters.
I couldn't get into many of the "must see shows" breaking bad, walking dead, game of thrones, I gave each of them about 4 episodes before I said I guess these just aren't for me.
and if you don't mind anime: attack on titan (still playing) and samurai champloo are my favorites.

Re: Recommend a TV series !!'
I tried to watch most of the TV series that are highly recommended. But couldn't get into most of them. My top TV series of all time:
Friends - I watch it as a kid on and off but never finish the whole thing. Than I start going out with my current gf who is a big friends fan. Now I have watch thru the whole series at least 2 times and I still watches it. I like to have it as background when I'm doing house chores. Probabaly the only series I can watch over and over and over again.
Breaking bad - perfect character development and plot line from beginning to end. Probabaly won't watch it again but the epic ness is strong with this one. So epic that is it unbelievable sometimes.
Oz- the original prison drama. So much Greek style tragedy here. Some of the fate of the characters in here still haunts me.
The wire - in terms of TV making, this should be consider in ever higher regard than breaking bad. There is not main character. The city of Baltimore itself is the character. The fate of everyone in it is tragic yet full of hope. Not every season is good imo but it's incredible how you come to care for every single character and their by the very end. This is as close to real life as it can get for a TV show.
Orange is the new black - hooked after the first episode. Light hearted comedy with a serious message. Eagerly waiting for the next season. Good job Netflix.
Bates motel - this is a new unfinish show im giving a try. The first few season really draws you in. The story of Norman Bates from the original Hitchcock's "psycho". The actor for Norman here completely nail the character. Time will tell if this one will be another classic.

I like the walking dead, breaking bad, games of thrones, greys anatomy, scandal, once upon a time, downton abbey, revenge, the following, finding carter, American horror story, better call Saul, empire, how to get away with murder, Big Bang theory, and I guess I could go on to anime but that list deserves a separate post all together
