Well, this is an odd topic, but a local pet store of mine is doing easter photos with pets. Of course, I can not resist and am taking my girl kahl albino to get a picture with a giant sized dinner (to her). When I can I'll post the photos.
Anyone else do events like this with their boas? Or take them on any sort of adventures?

Going to a pet shop is probably fine but I would be careful taking a large constrictor to something like parks or places where lots of people are. A lot of people are scared of snakes and would be terrified of a 6'+ boa and some might actually call the police which in itself can add to the problem especially if your city/county requires permits to keep said animals. With that said, I take Rosey my 6' girl outside all the time in the summer but its in my yard and my neighbors are fairly cool about it but I still don't go advertising her :P Remember there are lots of people and organizations out there who want to ban exotic pet ownership like ASPCA. I mean look at the Lacey Act, they have pretty much now banned the transportation across state lines for any large constrictor except boas but they were on the list. I'm waiting for boas to be added and then ball pythons next :(

    Yep,

A municipal ordinance can be made up over night if the wrong folks spot you.

I have done a couple of elementary school presentations, and even getting the nod from the teachers and principal, I was hesitant about it.

In the end it all worked out but there is now a group of people who know what I have in my home and I'm not always eager to let others know about my hobby if I don't know them.

That's a bit off topic, and I think a photo with your pet is probably quite acceptable.

Generally you should be fine assuming your neighbors are semi cool. I had to get rid of my old Nile Monitor when he got to about 6ft. I really liked him too. Got him as a hatchling and he always was with me so he grew up to be like a giant puppy dog. I used to come home from work and throw him in the bath tub with the heat lamps on and he would splash around a few then he would have free roam of the living room. Of course he hated one of my buddies for no reason and one day took a swing at him with his tail and lucky for my buddy he was quick. The tail broke the sheetrock wall. Imagine what that would have done to his leg lol. Are constrictors completely illegal for you Reinz? Or do you just need a permit/license plus a cage inspection from AC on it? And im in the same boat as you, I wanted a SD goldenchild retic but not gonna happen now, thanks all you overpaid knuckleheads in congress:taz:

Sauzo - no constrictors allowed at all.

That's why the three pet stores in town don't sell them. But they all sell a heck off a lot snake supplies and feeder rats!

Oh man, that sucks. Definitely keep him under wraps if you got questionable neighbors. Lol go figure about the supplies and feeders. Wonder how much is being bought for boas. Are ball pythons even illegal there Reinz? And i'll have to remember to never move to the part of Texas you live in :P

Ball pythons, all contricting snakes are outlawed.

I live in a "family" town and retirement community with 3 colleges thrown in.

Single people hate this town because it is so family oriented and nothing for them to do. The singles are dying to leave this place.
You can't escape the kids when you go out to eat, they are everywhere, even at the expensive places.

Then there is the retired. Tons of elderly and we have the golf courses to prove it.

So that gives you the snake mentality; save the children, and fear in the elderly.

What about Texas rat snakes? Do they intend to ban a native "constricting" snake? SMH?!?! People are so ignorant these days:(

I really don't know. The law is probably written to include only no indigenous snakes.

That'll change one day probably. Like the movie demolition man...the government has to protect all us idiots. No contact sports, no sugar or salt, no indigenous snakes....they could bite you and your finger could get infected!!! Let's just outlaw everthing. That way we'll finally be safe.

Ouch Reinz. You picked the WRONG place to live lol. If I ever got killed by my ball python, I'd pray to god she would drag me somewhere I couldn't be found as that would be embarrassing to be killed by a ball python lol. Omg Reinz, you're a felon!! A multiple count one too!! :sarcasm: No snakes allowed......tons of kids......tons of old people.......that's like....hell :P

Well, since I grew up in Dallas, Tx; which just got too big and smothered me, this small town ain't too bad- until I just found out about the snakes. :(
